Xiao Jin possesses four distinct attributes. These characteristics are not observed by Lu Yu through a villain's perspective, but rather, they are documented on the Dark Scroll. Despite the scroll being fragmented, it contains two empty spaces formed by runes.
When Lu Yu dripped Xiao Jin's blood onto it, the creature's information was revealed in the vacant slots. Xiao Jin boasts a strength of 32 and agility of 40.
Fortunately, it is a beast devoid of combat skills and weapons. Otherwise, if these attributes were possessed by a human armed with a weapon, even Lu Yu, a high-level black iron, would struggle to compete.
The survivors, unable to see the clothing store, could observe the happenings on the street. Recognizing the survivors trailing behind the monkey, they identified them as the students who had previously fled.
Lu Yu, carrying Yan Yun on his back, didn't have time to ponder. He hastily instructed everyone to return to the hotel.
Having rested in the secret realm, he had regained some physical strength. However, the strange allure they had encountered earlier deterred him from engaging in combat with the numerous scattered monsters on the road.
Xiao Jin, a mutant monkey tamed by a dark contract, doesn't comprehend what a hotel is. However, due to the existence of the dark contract, it regained its conscious and could fully understand Lu Yu's thoughts.
Guided by the voice in his head, 'Help the master to the house opposite,' Xiao Jin led everyone swiftly towards the hotel.
As the monsters outside were more scattered than before and there were no high-level black iron monsters, everyone managed to run from one side of the street to the other without issue.
Upon reaching the first floor of the hotel, Lu Yu quickly found a room and entered. He closed the door with a loud bang, let out a long sigh, and then placed the completely limp Yan Yun on a chair, exclaiming,
"Damn, I'm exhausted!"
Carrying a woman weighing less than 100 Pound, given Lu Yu's current attributes, should have been an easy task.
However, he had expended a lot of physical strength fighting with Xiao Jin in the secret realm. Carrying Yan Yun out of the secret realm and running such a distance left him needing to catch his breath.
Yan Yun, leaning against the back of the chair, weakly asked Lu Yu if she had held him back again. She was so weak at this point that she didn't even have the strength to stand up.
However, her mind was filled with images of Lu Yu carrying her on his back. A man who is not only handsome but also wealthy, who has not abandoned her in such an environment and is willing to protect her, surely that's love?
In the span of just one day, Yan Yun found herself inexplicably accepting the boy who had once wronged her. The sensation was peculiar, as if it defied reason and resisted her own instincts. Lu Yu, observing her closely, responded matter-of-factly.
In the past, such acceptance might have posed a hindrance, but now, whether it was Yan Yun herself or her unique abilities, she had become remarkably useful to him. The past grievances seemed to fade against the backdrop of their current predicament.
Yan Yun, though inwardly unhappy with his response, maintained her composure. She was thin-skinned, unwilling to reveal her true emotions too readily. Lu Yu, seemingly impervious to her feelings, issued a direct order.
"Finish this last bit of food," he instructed, "and let's make our way back upstairs before darkness falls." The evening had already settled in; even during summer, twilight would soon give way to an inky blackness.
With the world plunged into an electricity-less abyss, the nights had become ominous and treacherous. Staying downstairs was no longer a viable option.
Ding Feng, nodding in agreement, recalled the provisions they had brought along. Chocolate and water simple yet essential supplies had sustained them since their encounter with Xiao Jin, the enigmatic monkey.
As they consumed the remaining rations, Lu Yu efficiently distributed the resources among them. Ding Feng couldn't help but marvel at the creature squatting just over a meter and a half away.
In this post-apocalyptic landscape, where monstrous beings roamed and rare treasures surfaced, even these mutated creatures could forge bonds with humans through mysterious contracts.
It was a reality he still struggled to accept.
The world had changed, and with it, the dynamics between individuals. Bonds formed in adversity were often the strongest, transcending past grievances and personal histories.
Wu Qiang gingerly bit into a piece of chocolate, his gaze shifting to the others. Among their motley group, his ability stood out as the most peculiar.
It had manifested shortly after the cosmic storm swept across the land, leaving chaos and inexplicable changes in its wake. Wu Qiang's memory flashed back to that fateful moment when a lizard-like monster materialized before him.
The shock had rendered him speechless.
The creature pursued him relentlessly, and Wu Qiang fled with desperate determination. As he ran, something extraordinary happened: he transformed.
The surge of newfound power coursed through his veins, etching an indelible memory in his mind. The sensation was both exhilarating and terrifying a testament to the world's metamorphosis.
His attention shifted to Xiao Jin, the enigmatic monkey with scars crisscrossing its arms, waist, and back. An unbidden question surfaced
Could Xiao Jin, bitten by a zombie, become one of the undead?
He turned to Lu Yu, who peeled off another piece of chocolate. The casual explanation that followed intrigued Wu Qiang.
Apparently, the mutated beasts carried virus antibodies far superior to those found in humans. Even if bitten, they wouldn't succumb to zombification. In this altered reality, there were no zombie beasts—only mutants. Lu Yu's confidence stemmed from information gleaned from Chu Feng's initial plot, and Wu Qiang breathed a sigh of relief.
"Otherwise," he mused aloud, "such a massive zombie monkey, impervious to pain, would spell disaster for us." His words hung in the air, but Yan Yun remained unfazed.
She, too, had been taken aback upon discovering that Xiao Jin belonged to Lu Yu. Yet, in this precarious existence, the simple act of Lu Yu offering her chocolate eclipsed all other revelations.
As she savored the sweetness, her gaze lingered on him, a fleeting connection amidst chaos.
Regrettably, Lu Yu's time was scarce. After devouring their meager rations, he drew his crossbow. "Let's go, Xiao Jin," he declared, determination in his eyes. "We'll find you a companion to share the burden.
Ding Feng, Wu Qiang, join me!"
Lu Yu, possesses a dark scroll obtained from a secret realm. This scroll has the unique ability to form contracts with two monsters.
However, the spirit power of the contracted monster must not exceed 70% of Lu Yu's own spirit power. If this limit is exceeded, the contract is likely to fail, potentially causing a dangerous backlash.
To ensure a successful contract, Lu Yu must weaken the monster to a near-death state before initiating the contract. This approach not only increases the success rate of the contract but also ensures that the dark energy, which has the ability to heal all injuries, is not wasted during the contract signing process.
However, it's important to note that while the dark energy can heal injuries, it cannot regenerate severed limbs. Therefore, Lu Yu must be careful not to kill the monster while weakening it.
Lu Yu's companion, a monkey named Xiao Jin, expresses its happiness through unique monkey sounds. Xiao Jin's happiness stems from its need to eat in order to recover from an injury. Lu Yu, through his spiritual connection with Xiao Jin, understands this need and provides it with meat, its preferred food.
This is a surprising revelation for Wu Qiang, who is accustomed to monkeys being omnivores before the end of the world. However, post-apocalypse, monkeys have become carnivorous.
In a separate event, three kilometers north of Lu Yu's hotel, an unexpected incident occurs in a shabby neighborhood. A young man named Xiao Fan, who lives in a simple rental house in the community, experiences a life-changing event.
Xiao Fan, a 25-year-old errand boy, had a fateful encounter with Lu Yu earlier in the year when he was delivering a birthday cake to him.
An accident resulted in the cake being smashed, leading to a violent confrontation with Lu Yu and his friends, Wu Qiang and Shi Lei. Xiao Fan was severely beaten and hospitalized for three months.
Despite his desire for revenge, Xiao Fan was unable to act due to his ordinary status and the power and wealth of his adversaries.
However, the end of the world arrives, bringing with it a new set of challenges. Xiao Fan is bitten by a zombie while trying to save a girl named Qin Xiaorou.
His body temperature drops, his consciousness blurs, and he realizes with despair that he is turning into a zombie. Despite his unwillingness to accept this fate, he understands that there are forces in the world beyond human control.
Meanwhile, Lu Yu is in the Rhine Hotel, where he decides to catch a second pet. He, along with Wu Qiang and Ding Feng, and led by Xiao Jin, make their way through the hotel.
They form an invincible team, easily defeating any monsters they encounter.
Lu Yu's dark scroll not only allows him to contract with monsters but also grants the contracted creatures a 'ghoul' ability.
This ability allows the creatures to evolve by eating the corpses of other monsters and convert the consumed matter into energy to restore their stamina and heal their wounds.
In just ten minutes, Lu Yu successfully contracts with his second pet, an enhanced black iron lizardman named Xiao Xi.
With two high-level black iron monsters, Lu Yu can now let them take turns eating and restoring their stamina.
Along with Wu Qiang and Ding Feng's support and Lu Yu's crossbow fire suppression, they easily deal with the scattered monsters in the hotel.
During this process, Lu Yu's weapon, the green sword, continuously absorbs energy and eventually improves its rank.
