However, as she rushed through the city streets, it became clear that something strange had happened. No one was to be seen; it looked like a ghost town—as if all the citizens had vanished. 

"What's going on?" Hu Mei asked, with her arms around her grandmother, helping her move quicker as Shen Yun picked up the pace. 

"I don't know." Shen Yun said as she observed her surroundings momentarily and considered her options. "We should go back to my house and wait. We will be safe there."

There was no way someone could harm her father. The mansion was always surrounded by guards, and martial artists nearing the core refining stage guarded inside the compound.
