Chapter 192: Laying Low for a While

"Got it, remember to have G36 tally up what supplies we're lacking and send me a list later. Also, don't forget about CF05," Renault instructed.

"Understood! I'll go ask right away!" The response came promptly.

After hanging up, Renault initiated the helicopter's engine, leaving the piloting to Simonov. He pulled out his phone and began checking the situation of the city across the river.

Entering the city on their side was almost unchallenged, but the city across the river might not be the same. Any city where normal residents lived wouldn't turn a blind eye to unknown outsiders.

If someone on the verge of ELID infection were let in and transformed within the city, who would be responsible for the aftermath?

As the helicopter ascended, Renault glanced across the Dnieper River.

Another brightly lit city, but this one seemed much better than the one beneath them. At least the lights didn't form distinct zones; most areas were well-lit.

However, there seemed to be no Quarantine wall around this city. Instead, there were many buildings around the outskirts resembling factories, likely farms or vertical farms.

After all, with such a lively city, there must be a significant population. Without agricultural facilities, it would be impossible to support so many people.

But the lack of a Quarantine wall was a problem. The city's controllers probably believed that with several cities to their south, infected individuals couldn't break through the blockade of those cities to reach here.

"Inspection level: light."

The black market data clearly stated the city's inspection severity as light, probably just for show. As long as they weren't severely infected, the guards wouldn't bother stopping them.

The whole city was divided into several regions, but they had no names, only simple letters for identification. Other cities did the same, depending on the local authorities' preferences.

And this city had several small airports and a large one, but the latter wasn't open to the public. Only the military and some other official agencies used it, and Griffin wasn't included.

There were also no G&K contractors in this city, so there were no Griffin T-Dolls stationed here.

The guards here were all organized by the local authorities, although they were still ineffectual and merely held official titles. They only came out reluctantly to clean up the mess when things went wrong.

Renault's destination was one of the small airports operated by the black market, no inspections needed, just land and go. It was similar to the small airport in the previous city, but the fees here were slightly lower.

After all, the previous city catered to the wealthy, while this one mainly hosted the underworld clientele.

As soon as Simonov had stabilized the helicopter, a stout black market merchant, rubbing his hands together, greeted them with a smile.

"Hey hey! Welcome to our airport! We provide refueling, aircraft maintenance, and storage services here. How long do you plan to stay..."

This black market merchant was happily introducing his services to Renault, who was still wearing his flight helmet. But as Renault took off his helmet and turned to face him, the merchant's expression instantly changed!

His astonished look was as if he had seen a pig fly, mouth gaping open, forgetting his usual lines.

"Huh? What's wrong?" Seeing the man's expression, Renault frowned, looking at him strangely. Was he so frightening-looking, or was P90 playing tricks again?

"N-nothing! Nothing! Please come this way! We offer various services here! Whatever you need, we can get it for you!" Seeing Renault's displeased expression, the merchant quickly concealed his surprised look and resumed his initial demeanor, smiling as he introduced his services to Renault.

But the cold sweat on his forehead betrayed his inner fear. It wasn't until he saw Renault and the others entering the inn with two semi-defunct T-Dolls that he breathed a long sigh of relief. He took out a handkerchief from his pocket, and wiped the cold sweat off his forehead tremblingly.

"Hey, what's up boss? Sweating so much again, need a refill?" Just as the ground crew had moved the helicopter into the hangar and returned, they saw their boss panting and wiping sweat here, completely looking like a person who hadn't been replenished.

"Get lost! What nonsense are you talking about! Be careful, or I'll dock your wages!"

"Huh! Wages have been docked ages ago!" The leading ground crew member sneered disdainfully. If it weren't for them, how could this guy afford to keep this small airport running?

"Hmph! Anyway, you guys be careful these days! Don't say I didn't warn you! Tone down the doll trafficking business! Don't make trouble for me when that guy hasn't left yet!"

Seeing the mocking smiles of the ground crew, the merchant angrily waved his hand and turned to leave.

"Huh?"

What did he mean? This was the first time they had heard these words from this fat guy's mouth. When did this unscrupulous guy start caring about their small business dealings?

"Hey hey hey! Don't go yet! What do you mean by that? Explain it clearly before you leave!" Among the ground crew, the man who seemed to be the captain hurriedly took a few steps forward and grabbed the fat merchant's arm, calling out.

"Let go! Let go! Don't get too close to me! I don't want to be implicated by you unlucky guys!"

"Hey! You fatso! If you don't explain it clearly today, don't blame us brothers for not giving you face!"

Hearing this, the fat merchant turned angrily, looked in the direction where Renault and the others had left, and said, "Don't blame me if something goes wrong! The guy who just flew the plane here! He's a Doll trafficking killer! Specializes in beating up Doll traffickers! There have been at least fifty if not a hundred traffickers who died at his hands! Even the Doll Rights Protection Association couldn't escape! If you want to stay alive, be honest until that guy leaves! Don't stir up trouble for me!"

With that, the fat merchant pulled back his arm and, trembling, returned to his office. However, as soon as he entered, he immediately started packing up, wondering if he should find a place to lay low until Renault left.

He didn't want to be targeted by that guy for his past activities of reselling various T-Doll parts. If he started investigating, he might be the first one to get caught!
