Chapter LIII: True Colors.
Last Time.
Naruto grabbed Scarecrow before taking his syringe hand and stuck Scarecrow with his own toxin. Suddenly, Scarecrow started screaming before being knocked out by Naruto.
Gotham; G.C.P.D. November 1, 01:15 EDT.
Kage dropped down from the Bio-Ship as Scarecrow, without his toxin belt or glove, was lowered and handed off to Cash who took him.
"You sound scared, Crane. Get used to it." Aaron said taking Scarecrow to the elevator and closed the door.
(Flashback End.)
Naruto E. smiled as he left while drying his hair. "It's a shame I never got to thank her for the save. Whoever she was." he said to himself.
Now.
Gotham; Naruto's Penthouse April 3,20:36 EDT.
"Woo!"
"Yeah!"
"Alright!"
"Yes!"
Naruto blinked as he heard cheering in the theater room. Going inside, he saw Megan, Zatanna, Artemis, and Cassie watching something on the screen.
Standing by the women, he saw them watching WrestleMania. "Is that Kane?" Naruto asked seeing Kane in a full body singlet with a fire design on the right leg, a red mask on with long black hair, and a regular glove on.
"Yeah, he went back to his old look." Artemis said cheering as the match went on.
"He's in a cage match with an... extremely skinny teen and a... is that a Great Dane?" Naruto asked sitting behind them.
"Last minute match I believe." Cassie said before looking back to the screen.
"This is because like 90% of the wrestlers are out with injuries, right?" Naruto asked watching Kane chase the teen around the ring.
"Not all of them are injured!" Megan said having Naruto raise a hand, counting down his fingers.
"John Cena, Nikki Bella, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Cesaro, Tyson Kidd, Daniel Bryan, Sting, Sami Zayn, Erick Rowan, Hideo Itami, Jey Uso, Rusev-"
"OK, so wrestlers get injured, big surprise. And Sting retired last night." Megan said as the match ended having Naruto look up as the arena turned green and music played.
Here comes the money!
Naruto saw a man with greying black hair, and is wearing a white jersey and black pants.
With him, are three boys that look a little like him, dressed similar walking down to the ring as a large roofed steel cage came down over the ring, as well as money.
"Is that Shane? When the hell did he come back?"
"About a month ago." Zatanna replied as Shane walked inside after taking his sons to the barrier.
Gong!
The Undertaker's theme played as the lights went out before turning blue with lightning going over the arena just as the Undertaker started to walk down with shoulder length hair, and a black trench coat.
Later, Naruto was eating a bowl of popcorn as he watched Shane climb the cell as the Undertaker was laying on one of the announcer tables. Shane got to the top, and panted before jumping off the 20' structure for an elbow drop.
"Oh my God!"
"Shit. Didn't think they'd have a man in his mid-forties do that." Naruto said seeing the Undertaker roll out-of-the-way, having Shane hit the metal table, and broke it.
"Well people say wrestling's fake, but you can't fake falling from a ladder, or a cell. It'll still hurt even if it was planned." Naruto said getting the women to look at him.
"There's an argument I never got. Bash a person for watching something fake, but they'll watch a show about the zombie apocalypse and a medieval show that's mainly all talking, with bits of an adult movie thrown in." Naruto said watching the Undertake carry Shane back inside the cell, and finished the match with a Tombstone Piledriver.
"Like 99% of movies and T.V. shows, you meet the actors or wrestlers halfway and lose yourself in the story they're trying to tell you." He finished as the workers cleaned up the ring for the next match.
Gotham City; Warehouse April 4, 19:25 EDT.
Kage dodged a punch from a masked man before kicking him away. He looked behind to see Mary Marvel looking at her phone.
"Are you texting?"
"Checking the time." Mary replied showing the clock on her phone that read '7:25P.M.'.
"Stay focused, you don't need to be sloppy." Naruto replied, raising his fist, and hit a man who tried to hit him from behind before throwing him into another group.
"Of course! I've just got a babysitting job." Mary replied, punching a man across the warehouse.
"Fine, I'll finish up here." Naruto replied as Mary flew away.
"Thanks!"
Fawcett City, April 4 19:00 CDT.
Mary Batson ran to a two-storied house and rang the doorbell.
A second later, a man answered the door. He has short brown hair with a moustache goatee combo and glasses. He's wearing a jacket over a white button shirt and black tie, brown pants and black shoes.
"Hello Mary." He greeted letting her inside where she saw multiple antiques and artifacts. He explained that he was going to an antique auction before an eight year old boy ran in and jumped into Mary's arms. And knocked a vase down, having Mary quickly grab it.
"And that's why we hired you, Mary." Mr. Anderson said taking the vase from her. "Timmy, that vase is 1,200 years old. Let's try and be more careful, and be good for Mary. Okay?" He asked poking his son in the stomach and walked away.
"Yes, daddy."
"Alright kiddo, what do you want to do now?" Mary asked putting Timmy down.
"Hide and seek! You're it!" Timmy said running off. And bumped into a drum which Mary stopped from falling over.
"Let's try not to break anything, Timmy!" Mary said before walking after Timmy.
And missed Klarion fly in the hall with Teekl.
"Do you feel it, Teekle?" He asked as the cat sat on a bench.
(Meow!)
"We're close." Klarion said walking to a mirror. "Soon, the Magdalene Grimoire will be in my grasp."
"Who are you?"
Klarion turned to see Timmy standing behind him.
"Your newest and coolest friend."
"Do you want to play hide and seek?" Timmy asked Klarion who grinned.
"You read my mind. You go hide, and if I don't find you by the time I count to ummm... 8,000, you win."
"Whoa, that's a lot of counting. What do I get if I win?" Timmy said getting Klarion to go into a mock thinking pose.
"A kid after my own heart. Whatever you want."
"A smartphone!"
"(Sigh) Sure. Now go hide." Klarion said shooing Timmy off before looking back to the mirror.
"Timmy!" Mary yelled getting Klarion to let out an irritated sigh.
"How many people are in this house anyway?!" He asked as Teekl jumped on a mantle. "Teekl, you search for the Magdalene Grimoire, I'll keep these fools busy." Teekl jumped off and ran as Klarion turned into Timmy just as Mary came around the corner.
"Timmy?"
Crack!
Mary dashed to the library where she heard something break, and saw 'Timmy' climbing a mantle.
"Timmy, get down from there!" She yelled running over and caught the stuff that fell. Klarion jumped to a bookcase and threw several books down before dropping down as he saw Teekl in a box behind Mary.
"I'm hungry!"
"Okay, let's go to the kitchen." Mary said taking Klarion to the kitchen where she started to make a sandwich.
"Boysenberry!" Klarion yelled trying to keep Mary's focus inside the fridge as Teekl walked in with a branding iron with a 'W' on it.
"No, that's not it!" Teekl walked away as Mary sighed.
"I know what Boysenberry looks like Timmy." Mary said walking over with the sandwich in hand as Teekl walked in with a necklace with a blue jewel.
"What? No!" Klarion yelled out before looking to Mary. "I-uh, mean no crusts."
"(Sigh) OK." Mary said turning back to the counter as Teekl walked back in with a double dragon headed staff.
"Are you even trying?!"
"OK, Timmy. I know you're hungry, but you..." Mary trailed off turning around and saw Teekl. "Hey!" She gave chase into an office room before Klarion ran in as a red book fell to the floor.
"The Magdalene Grimoire!" He transformed back and grabbed the book before created a red barrier, kicking Mary out of the room. She looked at Klarion before picking up her phone and called Naruto.
"Yeah?"
"I need help. Fast!"
"With a babysitting gig?"
"Klarion's here!"
"I'm on my way."
Fawcett City April 4, 19:25 CDT.
Mary Marvel opened the door to see Kage. "Oh, thank heavens you're here!" She said as Naruto walked in. She started to close the door, only for a hand to stop it.
She look as John Constantine pushed the door opened and walked in.
"And you brought a hobo."
"This is John Constantine. A specialist." Naruto replied as Mary took them to the study where Klarion was reading the Magdalene Grimoire while floating cross-legged.
"He just showed up out of nowhere." Mary said as they walked in just as Teekl in its large form to knock Mary across the room before jumping past the red barrier.
"Kage, I see you brought a girl and a hobo with you." Klarion said turning around and floated up.
"Magic barrier. Constantine, can you break through it?" Naruto asked as John walked up and touched it. Smoke coming of his finger making him reel back.
"I'm sure I have something for it, Kage."
"Recognize this, Constantine?" Klarion asked John getting his attention as he held up the Magdalene Grimoire.
"The Magdalene Grimoire!"
"Oh yes, more spells than I could ever ask for!"
"I can do a lot with that book." John said before reaching in his coat and threw dust on the barrier. "I think I'll take it!"
A diagram with a keyhole formed on it before he brought out a key ring full of gold keys. Walking up, he put a key on the diagram having the entire set melt.
"Oh, you want to use magic? Let's use magic!" Klarion yelled before having the Magdalene Grimoire float and said a spell. A portal formed by the heroes having water spray our flooding the room.
Klarion said another, having the water go into portal before saying another spell.
A portal formed behind John having him look back and smirk seeing three red-skinned women dressed in short skirts, and skimpy dresses, and all three had horns with one having wings.
"Hello ladies." He said having Klarion gag before getting rid of the portal. "Oh! You are going to pay for that!" John said throwing stone marbles with runes on them in the air forming a circle. His hands glowed white before he threw them at the barrier.
Nothing happened, getting Klarion to laugh. "Looks like you lost your marbles!"
"Laugh all you want, witch boy! I've got something that'll break through that barrier!" John said before taking the couch and rammed the barrier, only for nothing to happen. "Well, that didn't work."
Mary walked up and saw Timmy run out from behind a rug on the wall and up to Klarion.
"I win! Do I get my smartphone?"
Klarion scoffed before swatting Timmy away.
"That's it! Sayonara, witch boy!" John said pulling a scroll out of his coat. Saying a spell, his hand glowed white before unrolling the scroll and hit it. A Samurai ghost came out with a katana and hit the barrier.
A kanji appeared before the barrier disappeared having Mary fly to Timmy as the others attacked Klarion.
Klarion called another portal having a plant creature grab them with tentacles before Klarion was punched by Mary who threw the book to John. "Hey hobo, catch!"
Naruto threw an explosive tag kunai at the plant, freeing them as Klarion appeared in front of John.
"Your magic is nothing compared to mine! Give me the book now!"
"OK, you're right. My magic's nothing compared to yours." John said giving Klarion the Magdalene Grimoire.
Only to punch him to the portal and caught the book. "But my fists are!" John spoke a spell from the book and closed the portal as Klarion was grabbed and pulled through with Teekl.
John used a spell to clean up the house before he, and Naruto left to wait for Mary's job to be over.
Later, the trio stood behind trees before Naruto jumped into his Tumbler that he used to bring John over. "Need a ride?" Naruto asked Mary who shook her head. "No, I'm good."
"SHAZAM!"
A bolt of lightning hit her, having her transform before floating. "I'll be sure to call next time I need hobo magic." She said before taking off.
"Cheeky!" John said as Naruto looked to him.
"How 'bout you?"
"Well, it's a beautiful night. I think I'll fancy a stroll."
"OK." Naruto said before closing the roof and took off.
John just smirked before pulling the Magdalene Grimoire out and created a portal. "Hello ladies." He said opening up the women's portal and walked through it.
Ivy Town April 7, 23:24 EDT.
Naruto and Dinah stood watch outside an operating room where Jaime was laying on his side as a doctor with a magnifying scope on his head stood with a needle near Jamie's spine.
Beside Jaimie is Bart in a smock and mask.
"It'd be easier my way." Grifter said leaning against the wall having Canary glare over her shoulder.
"You know my future self just said he didn't know if it was Jamie in the suit when Blue Beetle took over as the Reach said he would need to die to reset the Scarab to work for them. Maybe saving Flash changed it to where Jaimie died and they put the Scarab on another person and just said it was Jamie to deal a blow to us."
Naruto said before looking back to see the doctor take the syringe out of Jaimie and squirt its contents on the floor. The Atom and Bumblebee grew out of the water with oxygen tanks and diving helmets on before explaining that the Scarab repaired anything they cut inside.
Blüdhaven April 8, 09:02 EDT.
G. Gordon Godfrey sat at his desk with the Justice League name plate behind him with 'Criminals' stamped in red over it.
"The question isn't whether our World's Finest are the galaxy's most wanted. It's not whether they've been using secret undercover covert ops against targets if their own choosing. No! It's not even whether these interstellar hoodlums have their own Watchtower in orbit over our planet!"
"No, ol' G. Gordon proved all that a week ago, didn't he? So the question is this: How long are you going to stand for this, and do nothing?!" Godfrey asked standing up and moved to the front of his desk. "(Sigh) I'll just wait here while you make up your minds. If you're not in a hurry, why should I be?"
"Meanwhile, Earth's true benefactors, the Reach. Have been working openly and without fanfare for the betterment for all mankind."
A picture of a vegetable farm with Smallville underneath it came up with a picture of Lex Luthor and the Ambassador.
"Exhibit A: Lexcorp Farms. Where the Reach has partnered up with noted Philanthropist, Lex Luthor, to increase food production. Lexcorp and the Reach are even allowing public tours! Trust, openness, and ending world hunger. Now, why didn't the Justice League think of that?"
Kage paused the T.V. before looking at the Team, his older self, and Grifter.
"Obviously, any partnership with Lex Luthor and the Reach is bad news. So Alpha Squad will go undercover on a tour in LexCorp Farms. Robin, you'll lead this with my future self. I don't want to take the chance of that Black Beetle guarding the place."
"Who else is on the Squad?" Robin asked as Naruto E. walked over.
"Blue Beetle-!"
"Woah! I should not be in the field, ese! (dude)! What if the Scarab goes all 'Reach-Apocalypse' on us?!" Blue asked as Naruto walked over.
"Your Scarab has had plenty of time to betray us when you were captured and tried removing it. Its connection to the Reach is our best shot at identifying whatever it is that they're trying to do. Trust your Scarab."
"There Jaimie Reyes. Listen to the Kage, his logic is flawless." The Scarab said to Blue before Impulse sped in front of Naruto.
"Well if Blue's goin', I'm goin'!"
"I thought as much." Naruto said with a smirk. "And last but not least, Arsenal."
Out of the shadows, Roy walked out sporting a buzz cut and an outfit similar to his clone counterpart. He has his mechanical arm on and several weapons on his back.
"And this is a covert mission. Non-lethal weapons only, Roy." Arsenal just stared at Naruto who stared back. "I know you want a go at Lex, but I won't have you risking the Team's lives for your vendetta. So my future self will be watching you. Any questions?"
"Just one: Why are we meeting in this dump?" Arsenal asked crossing his arms.
"Both of our bases are craters now." Naruto replied before turning around to the others.
"Why not the Watchtower? It's public news now. You can't pretend it doesn't exist."
"Only authorized Leaguers and senior members of the Team are allowed on the Watchtower. You don't qualify."
"Good to know where we stand." Arsenal replied before Naruto walked to him.
"Well, considering your clone was used to take control of the League and put us in this mess to begin with, I think that's a good safety protocol don't you think? They had control phrases for Conner and Donna as well that had them black out for hours. So why else did I force you to take that chip? And had M'gann scan your brain?"
"To make sure the Light, who had you on ice for close to a decade wasn't controlling you! Good lord, I'm starting to think Red's attitude wasn't the result of the programming."
Smallville April 8, 16:38 CDT.
Naruto E., wearing a jean button shirt and black pants sat in the back of the tour cars as they stopped in the main building. He saw the Team in their civilian clothes with an elderly male, with grey hair and blue eyes.
He's wearing glasses and red suspenders with a greyish-blue shirt, along with a belt on dark grey pants.
He looked at the female tour guide who got off first.
She has short brown hair and is wearing a purple business dress.
They walked out to see vegetation on selves as the tour guide spoke. "And we've just entered one of our hydroponic domes where LexCorp and the Reach are growing the food of the future!"
"This could put the rest of Smallville's farms out of business." The elderly man Said, having the guide turn to him.
"No, no. The Reach plans to share all their techniques with the agriculture community."
'She is way too perky for this.' Naruto thought as they continued to where fruits and vegetables are on a table.
The Team took several into bags before Naruto saw Bart eat an apple getting him to sigh.
"Why did you bring him along to the present?" Naruto looked to Roy who spoke.
"Because someone upstairs said he was my responsibility." Naruto replied before seeing several tanks with pink liquid hooked up to water the food.
Western Mongolia April 9, 07:12 ICT.
Cluemaster and Sportsmaster stood in front of Vandal and Black Manta with the rest of the Light on screens around the large room.
"State your grievance, Cluemaster, Sportsmaster." Vandal said to the two.
"The Cape Canaveral Op. Manta's son, Aqualad, Killed my daughter Stephanie. Without my permission. As one of the Light's enforcer, I expect reparations."
"We grieve at your loss, but that doesn't explain why Sportsmaster is here." Lex said looking at them.
"She was family to me as well." Sportsmaster replied crossing his arms.
"I don't want money. Word gets out I took a pay in exchange for my daughter, I'd look like a chump." Cluemaster said before looking to Black Manta.
"What do you propose, old friend?" Vandal asked the two.
"Like the code says: An eye for an eye. A kid for a kid." Cluemaster said getting Black Manta to shout.
"No one touches my son!"
"Agreed." Vandal said after Black Manta before looking to the two enforcers. "The death of Kaldur'Ahm is a non-stated."
"Fine, if the minnows are under the limit, we'll go after the whales!" Cluemaster yelled as Sportsmaster threw a discus.
Bang!
A bullet hit the discus having the two look back to see Deathstroke holding a pistol.
"Deathstroke. I see you didn't waste time in replacing me, 'old friend'." Cluemaster said as Vandal dusted himself off.
"Fortune favors the prepared."
"So it does." Sportsmaster said before the wall blew up.
BOOM!
A helicopter piloted by Cheshire flew up having the two former enforcers jump into it and fly off.
Atlantic Ocean April 9, 00:13 EDT.
Black Manta without his helmet walked in his son's room with Vandal.
"I will have revenge on the Martian witch that did this!"
"As a father myself, I understand your pain. And the opportunity for revenge will come. But in the meantime, let's focus on making Kaldur'Ahm whole again." Vandal said as Psimon walked in the room.
"I borrowed Psimon from Queen Bee to help you and your boy. He'll shift Kaldur'Ahm's mind for every fractured memory, every barren thought. By the time Psimon's work is complete, your son will be whole. And Psimon will know more about Kaldur'Ahm than his own father."
Smallville April 8, 23:31 CDT.
The Team walked out in their stealth suits with Naruto E.'s being a black shirt, pants, and trench coat with a black half mask.
"You're in the wrong mode." Robin said seeing Impulse was in his regular suit.
"Dude, I crash all modes."
"Stealth mode, Hermano (Brother)." Blue Beetle said with a sigh.
"Oh, right! Now, where did I put that?" Impulse asked poking several places on his suit. "OW!" Only to stop as Blue elbowed him in the chest, having his suit turn black and grey.
"Thanks." Going outside, Arsenal show small arrows that messed with the cameras before dropping down into a lab where the Scientist was directing female Reach to add stuff to the pink liquid.
"What are they saying?" Robin asked Blue who looked at the aliens.
"Translating." The Scarab said before Blue spoke up.
"Okay, uh, she's warning her technicians to go easy on the additive. Just a sec..." His eyes glowed yellow before stopping on a container with pink crystals. "There!" He said as Robin was gone, picked up several crystals and came back.
As they started to Leave, Naruto grabbed Arsenal who was about to place a bomb.
"No lethals, Roy." Arsenal just glared at him before Naruto continued. "Don't give me that look. I already put bombs that'll explode when we've left as well as the people here. The cameras are still recording us so Lex will use the footage if we blow this up while there are people here as more evidence that the Justice League can't be trusted."
Naruto pushed Arsenal out of the lab before creating a Genjutsu (Illusion Technique) that hid them while they walked out of the door and disperse the illusion...
And right into Black Beetle. "Shit!" Naruto yelled out before running with the Team into the corn fields.
They ran into an opening where Black Beetle dropped in front of them. Blue took a step back, and bumped into something that shimmered into sight.
"(Gasp!)"
They looked to see a green Scarab armored Green Martian.
The Green Beetle attacked Black Beetle around the cornfield before using telepathy to help Alpha Squad.
"Odama Rasengan (Big Ball Spiraling Sphere)!" Naruto hit Black Beetle with a large Rasengan (Spiraling Sphere) that sent him flying back having the Team escape just as the farm exploded.
Smallville; Kent Farm 04:15 CDT.
"Thanks for letting us use your farm, John." Kage said to the man who was on the tour with Nightwing as Superboy and Troia stood by him.
"This is the safest place until we check out this Green Beetle."
"He's not the oddest thing we've had here. And I'll take any excuse to see one of my boys."
"My name is B'arzz O'oomm. And obviously, I am of Mars." The Martian introduced himself to the others.
"Obviously." Robin said standing by Arsenal. "But it's the Beetle thing that's got us wondering... How are you connected to the Reach?"
"I imagine my story's not dissimilar to yours." Green Beetle said to Blue Beetle. "On Mars, I am what you would call, an archeologist. Two of your Earth years ago, I stumbled upon a Scarab which attached itself to me."
"That part sounds familiar." Blue said as Naruto, Naruto E, and Nightwing walked up.
"With the Scarab, I learned about the Reach, and their plans. A millennia ago, they sent one Scarab to one planet sporting primitive life. The Scarab bonds, and takes full control over its hosts, and gives the Reach an inside agent for their invasions." Green Beetle explained before Blue spoke.
"My Scarab malfunctioned, and didn't take full control. That's why the Reach wants to reset it by killing me."
"Did yours malfunction, too?" Arsenal asked having Green Beetle shake his head.
"No. But it was not prepared for the Martian physiology which allowed me to take control over the Scarab."
"Why are you here?" Nightwing asked crossing his arms.
Green Beetle explained J'onn sent T.V. signals to Mars over the years he has been on Earth and that he wanted to help once learning about the Reach being on Earth.
Naruto E. looked down to his arm before looking back up and narrowed his eyes before going to Nightwing and Robin. "How was the mission?"
"Fine, but Arsenal-!" Robin was interrupted by Naruto E.
"Tried blowing up the lab while we were still inside. Keep him off of these kinds of missions until he learns to control his anger towards Lex."
Gotham; Naruto's Penthouse April 9, 05:15 EDT.
Artemis was fidgeting in her bed as sweat came down her forehead.
(Dream.)
Artemis, Zatanna, and Miss Martian watch at what looked like a tornado form in the middle of a city before seeing Kage get hit with lightning and disappear.
"KAGE!"
They yelled out before the tornado got bigger and started to destroy the city.
(Dream Over.)
Artemis woke up with a gasp, drenched in sweat has the cover came off showing her bare chest. She placed her head on her hands.
"You alright?"
She looked up to see a clone of Naruto walking in.
"Yeah, just a nightmare."
"Well, it's just a dream, it can't hurt you." Naruto said sitting down beside her and wrapped his arms around her.
'It wasn't me that was getting hurt.' She thought before gasping as the clone moved his left hand into her black panties.
LexCorp Farms April 9, 09:45 CDT.
"The damage wasn't that bad." Lex said as Vandal was walking beside him near a bottled drink line.
"The most profitable piece of business was left untouched and undiscovered. The first crop have been harvested and distilled." Lex said picking up a pink colored bottle with 'REACH' over the flavor of Strawberry-Mango.
"They're already shipped to needy nations and will be available worldwide. Amazing, one bottle has everything the body needs."
"Or more accurately: Everything the Reach needs it to need." Vandal said looking at the bottles on the belt.
They went to Lex's office where Vandall spoke. "Did they get a sample?"
"Yes. The Team was quite effective." Lex replied pushing a file with pictures of the runaways that the Team saved from the Reach. "We really must form one of our own."
