章 19: Coffee Talk

The morning sun filtered softly through the blinds of Jack's bedroom, casting warm stripes of light across the floor. He stirred awake, blinking against the brightness and stretching his arms above his head. The clock on his bedside table read 7:00 AM. With a yawn, he pushed himself out of bed, still groggy but eager to start the day.

After a quick wash, Jack slipped on a comfortable t-shirt and some jeans. He made his way out of his room and into the small living area that the three of them shared. The place was still quiet, with only the sound of the clock ticking in the background. He glanced at the kitchen, decided to make coffee.

Just as he reached for the cabinet, the sound of soft footsteps behind him made him turn. Samantha entered the kitchen, her dark brown hair pulled back into a casual ponytail. She wore a full-sleeved shirt, slightly wrinkled from the morning rush, and loose black pants.

"Good morning, Jack," she greeted with a bright smile, her blue eyes sparkling. "Did you sleep well?"

"Morning, Samantha! Yeah, I did. How about you?" Jack replied, pouring himself a glass of water.

"Pretty good, thanks," she said, glancing at the clock. "I have to get moving soon."

"Got it. I'll try to stay out of your way." He chuckled, heading towards the coffee maker. "I'm going to try making some coffee. Do you want a cup?"

Her eyebrows raised as she saw Jack by the coffee maker. "You're making coffee?" She sounded genuinely surprised as she stepped closer, pushing up her sleeve to reveal a pale forearm.

"Yeah... I bought this things yesterday since we didn't had."

"Well, we never make coffee here. Too much hassle, you know? Easier to grab one at the store." She said.

"I just like the coffee I make, that's all. Thought it'd be nice to have the stuff at home."

Jack set up the coffee maker as heard the unmistakable sound of a shower running.

"That must be Lena," Samantha remarked, glancing toward the bathroom.

"Nice," Jack replied, pouring hot water over the coffee grounds and inhaling the rich aroma as it began to brew.

The coffee maker beeped, signaling that it was ready. Jack poured two steaming mugs and handed one to Samantha. "Here you go! One cup of morning motivation."

Samantha took a sip, sighing as she tasted the hot brew. "This is really good!"

Just then, Lena emerged from the bathroom, her hair damp and tousled, wearing a pair of soft, pastel pajamas that made her look both cozy and cheerful. She smiled at Jack and Samantha as she walked into the kitchen. "Good morning! It smells amazing in here."

"Morning, Lena!" Jack replied, grinning at her. "I just made coffee. Want some?"

She glanced at the pot curiously. "I've never really tried coffee before…"

Jack smiled, grabbing another mug and pouring her a small cup. "Give it a shot. I added a bit of sugar, so you might like it."

Lena held the mug in both hands, bringing it to her lips hesitantly. She took a sip, and her eyes lit up. "Hey, this is pretty good! It's sweet!" She took another sip, smiling brightly.

Samantha, leaning against the counter with her cup in hand, laughed. "Jack. If I could get this every day, my mornings would be perfect."

"Well," Jack said with a grin, "If you manage to be around the kitchen at this time, maybe you'll get your wish."

Samantha smirked, crossing her arms. "Challenge accepted."

They shared a quiet moment, each enjoying their coffee. Jack looked around the kitchen, noticing the emptiness of the shelves. No groceries, no utensils, no signs of cooking life at all.

"By the way," Jack began, setting his cup down, "I noticed there's... nothing in the kitchen. No groceries, no pans, nothing. Do you two ever cook?"

Lena giggled, setting her mug on the counter. "Not really. We're both pretty busy, and honestly, cooking feels like too much effort sometimes. Prep, cook, clean? Nah. Easier to just eat out or grab some instant noodles."

Samantha nodded, brushing a stray hair back into her ponytail. "Yeah, same here. I've always just grabbed something on the way to work or ordered in. Cooking's just too much work after a long day."

Jack leaned back against the counter, arms crossed. "I get that, but I'm not really a fan of eating out every day. I'd rather make something at home. Doesn't have to be fancy, but I prefer home-cooked meals."

Samantha raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. "Wait, you can cook?"

Jack grinned. "Yeah, I enjoy it. Nothing gourmet, but I can handle the basics."

Samantha's eyes lit up, and she straightened, excitement creeping into her voice. "If you're offering to cook, I'll gladly take you up on that! I'll buy whatever groceries and stuff you need—just give me a list."

Jack chuckled. "Sure, I'll make a list for you. Just the essentials."

"Tell me specific things name," Samantha said with a smirk, already pulling out her phone to make a note. "I note it down."

Lena, who had been sipping her coffee with a pleased expression, suddenly chimed in. "Actually, why don't we all go shopping together? I need to grab a few things myself, and it'd be fun to make it a group outing."

Jack nodded. "Sounds good to me. Plus, that way, I can make sure we get everything."

Samantha shrugged, sliding her phone back into her pocket. "Alright, I'm in. Evening grocery run, it is."

They spent the next few minutes chatting over coffee. As they finished up, they all agreed to meet in the evening.
