章 49: Chapter 49: Shin Hirano: Lord of the Rice
"Wow! So many food places! Hey Sasuke, let's try the ones on this side today!" A hyperactive blonde ran through the streets, dragging along with him a moody child that reluctantly followed him, "Hey wait up you idiot! If you get lost, don't expect me to search for you!"
Shin followed the duo with a smile on his face, seeing them run around trying the new foods and aweing at the new sights was a heartfelt moment that always brought him a sense of peace. His eyes were occasionally drawn to the passersby or the shadows in the alleys, sometimes his attention was on the hidden ninjas on the rooftops of the buildings.
'Around 15, only 3 Jonins though.' he counted as he snatched a barbeque stick from a pouting Sasuke, "Alright, we have one hour before we go back. Afterwards I have an errand so you guys be good and stay inside your room. Sasuke, make sure the knucklehead doesn't run away."
"Hey!" protested the knucklehead as the emo tsked, "Why do I have to share a room with that idiot anyways."
Shin bonked them both on the head, "Do you know how expensive a room is in this city! If you are that ungrateful, I'm never bringing you with me again!" The two boys immediately shut up and spent the rest of the time roaming the city, even passing by a rather crowded gambling den where excited shouts about the "Legendary sucker" echoed through the street.
After the hour was up, he took the boys to their room and left. A few Konoha ninjas surrounded the entire inn and the spies that followed them before put some distance between them as they didn't want to get into a conflict.
Shin made his way to a very fancy mansion where the daimyo was staying, the whole place was surrounded by guards and ninjas. The two most important men in the entire country were staying here after all.
Shin was led inside and into a spacious room where several nobles and key Jonin were seated. Shin entered the room and greeted everyone, slightly bowing to the man in the center, the daimyo who smiled brightly at him.
"Oh Shin! You're here, come before me." The daimyo commanded him and the ninja obeyed. The daimyo observed him and nodded, "Such a handsome face, it's a shame to hide it behind a mask all the time! Don't you think so, lord Hokage?"
Hiruzen laughed as he nodded, "Hahaha, it's indeed true but Shin is a ninja and it's a part of the uniform for him."
The Daimyo showed a smirk at the hokage's words, "Oh, well perhaps I can fix that."
His words caused confusion among everyone except one of the nobles, the confusion was resolved however as the daimyo continued to speak, "Shin, you have done this country great merit! You led an alliance with Kiri, protected my daughters from the rogue ninjas who wished to kill her and you protected me from the rogue ninjas as well!"
Shin simply bowed his head, "I was just doing my duty, your highness."
The man shook his head, "No! If it hadn't been for you, I am sure I would have died that day when that army of ninjas attacked. Clearly my decision to have you be my escort was the right one as the rest of the ninjas were less than competent." he cast an ugly glance at the Hokage before looking at Shin again, "As such, I have decided to grant you the title of Danshaku!(Baron)"
The announcement caused a commotion, especially among the present nobles as they protested this but the elderly named Matsudaira shot them all down, "Lord Shin had gained great merit and his contributions were worthy of this appointment. Your highness's decision is indeed wise!"
"Daimyo-sama, Shin is a ninja of Konoha, historically, the ninjas do not hold titles of nobility." commented Hiruzen.
"Is there such a law Matsudaira-san?" the daimyo looked to his trusted aid who shook his head, causing the man to smile as he looked at Shin.
Shin simply bowed, "I am honored by this appointment your highness and humbly accept it."
The Daimyo laughed while nodding, "Well good! As a lord, you are entitled to a land, tell me if you have any preferences, Lord Shin."
"Unlike the rest, I have no desire for riches and fortunes, Your highness." Shin spoke calmly.
"Hm? Then what is it that you wish for? I can grant you anything within my power!" spoke the daimyo in curiocity.
"Peace, for everyone, everywhere." Shin spoke with such conviction that it startled the man for a moment, their eyes meeting as time halted for a second.
A small smile appeared on the daimyo's face and unlike the fake that he had always wore, this smile was real, "You ask for too much lord Shin. Very well, I shall grant you the land at a later date."
Shin left the room soon after, he had to get ready to move from the village. He was granted the lowest rank of nobility but even that came with privileges, such as a large piece of land, a castle and servants and even a mansion in the capital.
As the lord of the land, he had to stay there to manage and protect it. When the mission ended, his appointment came, he had been granted a large piece of land that belonged to a recently deceased lord. It was a fertile land and known for its harvest of rice and sake. It was quite a generous bestowment for a new noble but it also told everyone that Shin had daimyo's favor.
Shin shuttled between his fief and Konoha for nearly a month, he had many matters to settle before he moved there permanently. As he was now a noble, he no longer had any obligations to the village as a ninja and hence, no longer had to go on any missions.
During this time, the Akatsuki attacked Iwagakure in full force, the village was decimated and the jinchuriki was stolen. This caused quite a stir as the daimyo of the land of lightning started to push his troops towards the borders, as Kumo now had 2 tailed beasts, the daimyo had grown bold, wanting to expand his influence into the neighboring land of frost.
Another thing happened was a man in the capital of the land of fire, throwing a tantrum, "That bastard! How dare that lowly peasant thwart my plans twice! AGHHH" he threw his wine cup to a wall, shattering it.
"I suggest we kill him before he becomes a problem, it seems that old fox Matsudaira has taken a liking to him along with the daimyo." spoke a shadow behind the heaving man.
The angry man turned around, pointing his finger at the shadow, "You! You kill him! I want his corpse displayed on his own castle walls!"
The shadow bowed calmly, "It will be down. I will hire the Akatsuki for this, the new lord may be a child but he is still powerful. I am sure the Akatsuki would like to take their revenge as well."
The man nodded as his anger subsided and the drunk man slumped to his seat, downing another bottle dry as the shadow whispered behind him, "He is just a distraction, your focus should be on the prize! Iwagakure is in ruins! You must persuade the council of nobles to go to war with the land of earth! Only in chaos can the true leader succeed!"
The man nodded, "Yes, and when the time is right, the daimyo will die… after all this is war! And nothing will stop me from taking this country!" a vile smirk appeared on his face.

"But why do you have to go!?" cried a sniffling blonde boy while his emo friend pouted silently.
Shin ruffled their hair and smiled kindly, "That's just how it is, the daimyo himself commanded so there is nothing I can do about it." Looking at their sad faces, Shin decided to lighten up their mood, "But before I leave, I have a promise to keep dont I? You both made it to the top 2 so now it's time for your reward!"
Hearing him, the two perked up as Naruto cried out, "You're gonna teach us jutsu!? Yes! It's gonna be so awesome you know!?"
Shin nodded and turned, going through the hand seals for the great breakthrough technique before blowing out a massive gust of air. Shin had controlled its power since he didn't want to mow down the forest but it was still enough to impress the two boys.
"Wow! That was awesome! Is that the jutsu you are gonna teach us?" Naruto jumped in excitement as Shin shook his head, "No, This is the jutsu I am gonna teach you, I have something else planned for Sasuke."
Shin created a shadow clone that took Naruto to practice while he stayed with Sasuke, "Alright, you have made quite a bit of progress with your shurikenjutsu so I'm going to teach you one of the signature Uchiha fire style techniques; The Phoenix sage fire." the boy nodded as Shin demonstrated the technique and told them all the ways to use it. After an hour or so, the boy had managed to use it to some fluency which made Shin nod in acknowledgement.
Shin then threw a scroll at the panting boy who caught it, "What's this?" he asked in curiosity.
"I am going to be busy so I'm afraid I can't oversee your training anymore. This scroll contains most of the Uchiha clan's justus." Shin replied.
Sasuke looked at the scroll and then back at Shin, "But, why do you have it? The hokage said that all the scrolls containing the Uchiha jutsu were destroyed when…when…" his words choked up as he struggled to continue.
Shin pat the boy's head as he replied, "It's a copy I made for you. I've learned nearly all of the Uchiha clan techniques, this is all you need to become an excellent ninja. Just keep practicing and after Naruto learns a few wind style jutsus, you two can do combination jutsus. Heh, I'll bet my cat that you two would be unstoppable!" Shin smiled.
"MEOW!?"
"Just a joke Pineapple, I won't really bet you, you're my baby!" Shin cuddled the cat to placate it.
"Why do you always push us together, me and Naruto?" Sasuke asked with curiosity.
Shin smiled at him, "Because you both have nothing, this way you will have each other… cause, being alone kinda sucks huh?"
Sasuke could see the sadness behind Shin's smile, it was the same sadness he saw everyday in the mirror and the same he saw every time he saw Naruto alone. He hung his head low, a small voice escaping his lips, "Yeah…"
