章 31: Realizations

Mara's POV

The evening showed up and I waited for him to come but he never did.

What was this? The last time we hung out together he had listened to me pour out my frustration on him.

He had actually wanted to talk to me as a normal human and not judge me straight out.

He had eased my pain away but here I was unconsciously looking forward to seeing him.

I looked at the time to see that it was going to be six o'clock soon but he had not shown up to my chambers yet.

This was the first time he was going to be late.

A knock on the door had me looking at it with an expectant grin as the door opened up to reveal a maid bringing in my evening meal.

I had never been more disappointed in my life.

"Your meal is ready ma'am," said the maid as I grunted for her to drop it by the table before leaning back in my seat.

I was inquisitive to know his whereabouts so I called to the maid.

"Where is the king?" I asked, not knowing what title I should use for his kingdom.

"You mean the lord?" She corrected as I shrugged indifferently. I couldn't care less about what he was called. "He went hunting in the mountains. He should be back by now."

I nodded as I settled down in my seat to eat. It was nice to see that he was having a wonderful time.

Maybe when he was back he would come to my chambers to see me, I thought as I ate.

I had no idea I was looking forward to seeing him this way. It was strange and I hated it.

A few hours later, I was looking at the full moon in the sky with my heart fuming with rage at how he could stand me up.

He was supposed to have visited today but he had deliberately stayed away. How could he?

Now I was too mad to do anything as I tried to keep my anger in check while pacing around the room to distract myself.

I tried reading but it was pointless. It turned out to be a romance book which had the title 'Marry me', on the cover.

I tried turning on the radio but it was a love song. Even the television did nothing to help.

At this point, I started to feel like the silver cage was not a bad punishment tool in the first place.

"This sucks," I sighed while I laid in bed to sleep.

Klaus's POV

I stayed in my chambers all night reflecting on how my day had gone. I had gone hunting with Sam which could have gone south but hopefully had not done that. I was happy that it was not as horrible as I had earlier thought.

What if that bear had attacked him and torn him to pieces? I would have lost a friend.

What if the bulls had gotten him killed?

I had to talk with the leaders of his clan. I was hoping he would win.

Looking at my hand I released a few shadows which blended with the night.

This was a gift I had within me. I could use it to save whoever I wanted to save and I would not even bat an eye because I knew they would not be as powerful as I was.

I remembered my first time getting a bull. It had been a very scary experience. Those mystical bulls had almost torn me to pieces but I stood my ground and by the end I had come out victorious.

That was a long time ago. Now, I had gone through multiple years of battles and trained to be the most powerful vampire in my region and I was sure I could take on any danger if it ever showed up.

Suddenly I remembered Mara and all her words from the other evening. I was curious as to how true her words were.

She could be lying about her family treating her like that, but she could also be feeling the truth.

I wanted to know how this story would end.

Getting to my feet, I walked to the telephone to call the general in charge of her case.

"My lord?" His strong deep voice came over the phone.

"Come to my chambers."

Within minutes, I heard a knock on my door before the door was opened for the general to walk in.

He had a strong aura around him. It was offensive.

"You were training the young ones?" I asked as he nodded.

"We have to make them strong enough to defend this kingdom, my lord?" He smiled. I nodded while waving an empty seat for him to settle on.

When he was down, I went straight for the kill.

"Layla, what do you know about her death?"

He was taken aback by this sudden talk but soon he realized I was serious and started to talk.

"We already have the culprit caught, my lord. Why would you want to keep looking through the woman's death?"

"Because that woman was supposed to be my wife but somehow she's dead and the woman you all framed is innocent."

He was visibly confused by this.

"I suggest you and your team look into this matter," I said leaning back in my seat. "Make sure you look deeper into layla's death. Make sure you bring out the truth about this and don't stop until you get to the bottom of it, do you hear me?"

"Yes lord," he said as I nodded.

"And who told you that she was guilty?" I asked, inquisitive as to where he got his information from.

He couldn't say as he looked around like he was trying to remember something. At that moment, I felt a bit stupid.

I had wholeheartedly believed his words without double checking and here we were finding out she was not even the culprit.
