章 24: Weakening Stones

Mara's POV

I hated Klaus so much that his apologies were going to be left in the trash forever. I would never forgive him and I would never accept his apology. He had torn me apart by taking away my fangs and my source of my powers, why would I ever forgive someone like that.

It wasn't like forgiving him would bring back my fangs. It would not do that. It would actually cause me more harm than good, being with the very man who had caused me so much pain.

Just as I thought of my life and how I was forever going to be locked in this place, the door opened with the man getting in, but this time he had a horse riding uniform on.

"Come with me," he said, tossing a dark uniform to me. "And wear that. You're coming with me."

Before I could say anything, he shut the door and left me alone with the clothes.

What did he mean by that? I looked at the clothes, picked them up and found them to be horse riding clothes.

Without waiting, I wore them and headed for the door to see him standing by a hall window while looking out of it.

I slowly walked to him, the guards behind me following.

He looked at me with a smile before walking ahead.

I followed him because I was curious as to what he was doing.

I had not even looked at my reflection in the mirror before leaving so I didn't know what I looked like, but I knew it wasn't bad.

He led me to the garage where a horse was being held down by a stable boy.

"Climb on," he said to me as I recoiled.

"Excuse me?" I said in shock. That sounded like a command.

"I'm taking you sightseeing so you can see the kingdom. At least the wild parts."

I shrugged. How bad could it go?

I climbed on as he walked beside me, holding the horse while another horse was brought for him.

"I hope you can ride," he said before slapping the horse as it jerked forward, taking him forward.

Not to be outdone by him, I smacked my own beast zooming forward as we ran into a field with lots of bulls running around.

It was an exhilarating experience that I liked.

I watched the beasts get out of our way as klaus snarled at them before we headed back to the fields but this time instead of running, the horses walked side by side while I looked away from him trying to avoid eye contact with the man.

"I'm sorry," he said, apologizing again. This time I looked at him but didn't say anything. I was contemplating on leaving him here or accepting his apologies.

He had apologized multiple times but with all I had lost I couldn't see myself accepting them from him.

With a sigh, I started by kicking the horse.

The beast increased its speed while I looked ahead, trying to avoid looking back at him.

When I got back to the castle, the stable boy was there to take my beast as I ran to my room.

I sat on the bed, trying so hard to control my emotions when he burst in through the door with flowers.

He wasn't going to give up, was he?

I looked away, taking in deep breaths before deciding that he still wasn't worthy of my acceptance.

"No," I said with a strong tone. "My answer still remains no. No matter what you do or how you apologize I will never accept you Klaus. You have already caused me enough pain and I will rather die than accept you. Get it into your head and leave me alone."

The man dropped the flower on the bed and walked out, banging the door shut.

That day went by slowly and by the next day, he showed up with a new dress he had gotten from town while he thought of me.

He dropped it on the bed which I rejected in front of him and watched him leave.

With each rejection I gave out, I couldn't help but feel emotionally drawn to him each day.

Every time he showed up he took a piece of me with his words and all I could do was look at him with my eyes looking him over.

He was becoming less aggressive as the days passed by as he was looking more relaxed while talking to me.

The last time he showed up, he brought me a large teddy bear which had me laughing. Before I could reject it he was out of the door and I had the teddy bear in bed with me as I slept.

It was warm and it gave me the feeling that I had made a friend.

Klaus's POV

As I scratched off the list of things I would do for the day, I smiled at the thought of being with her again.

These days, what I did was show up with a gift, apologize and leave before she would reject it.

It seemed to be working. Plus weirdly enough, I felt content each time I would see her.

We were eating together on the same dining table now and I called that progress.

As she showed up for dinner, I tried talking to her but she refused to listen to me. Instead, she played around with her cutlery which was noisy enough to have me groaning.

"If you're trying to apologize, you already know the answer," she said as I smiled.

"And I know. That's why I would not stop trying to get you to notice me. I am not the bad guy here. If you can see that then everything would be okay."

She laughed. "Care to explain to my powerless body how that is true?"

"Mara, we have been dragging this on for so long that I've forgotten what we are fighting about. Can't you see this is wrong?"
