"And as for the family you talk about, you left behind a family broken by your absence. And if you must know, I didn't replace you… I only tried to help heal what your absence shattered."
Marianna's face twisted, but before she could respond, Jace took a step forward while his gaze remained fixed on her.
"Yes, Grace didn't replace you," he reaffirmed Grace's statement.
"And the truth is, I wouldn't have wanted her to. She's too special and unique to step into anyone's shoes. She's stood by us, covered the gap you left, and did more for Charles and me than you'll ever understand."
A tense silence settled over the room which was eventually broken when Grace let out a breath.
As she stared at Jace, her expression softenef inexplicably. "I came back because I didn't want to leave things unresolved. I want you to know that I don't blame you for anything. But… maybe it's time I do let go."
