Grace flinched at the word 'husband.' It succeeded in shattering everything Grace had thought she had with Jace… The man who had held her only moments ago and whom she was ready to spend eternity with now suddenly belonged to someone else.
This was worse than a nightmare. At least one would eventually wake up if it were a nightmare, but in this case, waking up would only bring you face to face with the cruelest of realities.
She felt her knees weaken, but she couldn't afford to falter now. Not in front of Marianna. Not in front of everyone but before she could formulate a response, Jace finally spoke.
"Stop this, Marianna," he said in a low but controlled voice, though the strain was unmistakable. This isn't the time or place to discuss this."
