Belinda's face softened further, a touch of sympathy crossing her features. "Oh, I didn't know. That must be tough for him, raising a child alone. He's lucky to have someone like you around."
Grace simply nodded, not wanting to dive deeper into her relationship with Jace just yet.
"Yeah, he's been through a lot, but he's managing. And I'm just doing my job, helping where I can."
Belinda reached up to pat Grace's hand, her eyes filled with gratitude and at the same time, exhaustion. "You've always had a good heart, Grace. I'm proud of you. But don't let anyone take advantage of that kindness, okay?"
Grace smiled, squeezing her mother's hand again. "I won't, Mom. You just focus on getting better, and let me handle everything else."
Belinda nodded and probably because she was woken up before she had her fill of sleep, her eyes already started to droop again as the medication and exhaustion took over.
