章 5: Battle Showdown
The next morning
"Shay is in the Pokemon Center of Pewter City for his first gym battle but unfortunately things are not good for him"
Inside the Pokemon Center.
"Whaaaat?" a loud noise is heard from it.
Shay was standing at the front desk of Nurse Joy.
"The gym is not open today!!!" screams Shay.
"I am afraid that the gym is closed today as a Pokemon Showcase is going on in the city" Nurse Joy confirms.
"Oh no.." Shay looked down disappointed.
"What am I supposed to do now?" asks Shay.
"So you caught the ditto I heard." someone says from behind.
Shay turns to look at the source.
"Huh, Oh Trent yeah, I did manage to catch Ditto," Shay confirms. "Ditto come out," and throws the Poke Ball.
"Cool so now you have three Pokemon's what you say let's have a full-on battle," asks Trent.
"Yes bring it on" Shay replies.
"Do you accept the Pokemon full-on battle request?" asks Pokedex.
"Yes," Shay confirms.
They go to the open battle arena inside the Pokemon Centre to battle. Nurse Joy was the referee for the Pokemon battle.
"Trainers I am the official referee for this Pokemon battle each trainers are allowed to use three Pokemon's each once a trainer's three Pokemon's are unable to battle the battle will be won by the opponent. " Nurse Joy explains.
"Okay, let the full-on battle between Trent and Shay begin." Nurse Joy confirms.
"All right Shay I am going to give my everything on this battle," Trent says.
"Okay Trent, no holding back" Shay replies.
"All right mankey come out"
"Ditto I choose you"
Both Ditto and Mankey stood in the arena ready to face each other.
"Ditto use, Transform"
Ditto uses transform.
Ditto transform into a Mankey.
"Woah incredible" Trent comments.
"All right Mankey use, Scratch now" Trent instructs.
"Ditto try to dodge it" Shay tells Ditto.
Ditto dodges.
"All right now use Low Kick" Shay asks.
Ditto does Low Kick.
"All right Mankey, grab its legs and do Seismic Toss" Trent said to Mankey.
Mankey grabs Ditto's leg and do a Seismic Toss by throwing Ditto on the ground.
"Ditto no," Shay says, concerned.
"Ditto are you still able to continue" asks Shay.
"Mankey," says Ditto struggling to get up.
"All right Ditto, use Fury Swipe" says Shay.
"Mankey use Cross Chop now," says Trent. Mankey and Ditto go head to head and do the attack. Both are standing after doing the attack. There is a pause.
Suddenly Mankey transforms into Ditto and falls on the ground. Ditto lost.
"Ditto is unable to battle the winner is Trent," Nurse Joy confirms.
"All right Ditto return" says Shay pointing his Pokeball. "Thanks, Ditto"
"Nice one, Trent your Mankey has gotten stronger," Shay tells to Trent.
"Thanks, Shay after the last battle I have been training nonstop yesterday waiting for a rematch," Trent responds. "Don't think we are going to lose again" Trent adds.
"Charmander come out, now," Shay says while smiling and throwing the Poke Ball. Charmander comes out of the poke ball.
Meanwhile, Ava was eating food downstairs. She looks at the glass window and sees a Pokemon battle going on.
"Woah Squirtle, a Pokemon battle is going on there let's go and see" and Ava gets up.
As she goes out she immediately spots Shay.
"Oh it's him that's Shay" thinks Ava and smiles.
"Squirtle, Squirtle" Squirtle calls out happily and jumps.
"Alright, Charmander use Flame Charge" Shay commands.
"Now Mankey use Dig and dodge it," Trent says.
Mankey uses dig and goes underground.
"Woah it dodged it" Shay comments.
"Char," says Charmander.
"Charmander keep moving and don't stay in one spot.".
Charmander starts to run.
"All right now Mankey come out" Trent screams.
Mankey comes out and deals damage to Charmander but it's not that effective.
"Charmander nooo" Shay screams.
Charmander lies on the ground.
"Charmander?" asks Shay.
"Char" says Charmander immediately getting up as if nothing happened to him.
"He has grown so strong. It totally seems like I'm battling a new trainer today. " Shay thought while looking at Trent.
"Oh Shay," thinks Ava concerned.
He sees his Charmander looking at Mankey ready to face him.
"Charmander believes in me and I can't let it down. If I am weak then there is no point in this battle. It came with me because I do not give up. As long as my Pokemon doesn't give up I will be there to lead it." thinks Shay with determination.
Ava seeing Shay gets surprised and happy.
"If I know him, then he is a person that wont give up no matter what the situation is" Ava thought
"It's all over Shay, Mankey use Acrobatics," says Trent.
"Now Charmander, use Smokescreen," says Shay.
Charmander uses Smokescreen.
Mankey can't see Charmander. "Now use Flame Charge" Shay screams.
Charmander through the Smokescreen, uses Flame Charge and knocks out Mankey.
"Mankey is unable to battle," Nurse Joy said.
"Smart move Shay I thought I had you," says Trent.
"You haven't seen anything yet, Trent," Shay replied.
"In that case, Beedrill come out now," says Trent throwing his Pokeball.
"Use X Scissor now".
"Charmander use protect" says Shay.
X Scissor doesn't do any damage.
"Use Hyper Beam now Beedrill" Trent commands.
"Charmander hold on keep using protect " Shay comments.
"Char" Charmander acknowledges.
"Alright now use Dig" Shay tells to Charmander. Charmander uses Dig.
"Beedrill watch out" warns Trent.
"Now Charmander".
Charmander comes out of the ground flying. "Now use Flame Charge" Shay commands.
Charmander starts to go up to Beedrill using Flame Charge.
"Quick Beedrill dodge it using Agility" says Trent.
But bedrill is unable to dodge and gets hit. Beedrill starts dropping down.
Charmander is still in the air.
"Drop down using Take Down," says Shay.
"Nooo Beedrill" screams Trent.
Charmander uses Take Down and there is a loud sound and smoke when they hit the ground.
"Beedrill is unable to battle" Nurse Joy informs.
"Okay, Beedrill return" Trent calls back Beedrill.
"You did good beedrill" TBent praises the Beedrill.
"Now here come the real battle" says Trent throwing the Poke Ball.
Wartortle appears.
"Woah a Wartortle looks like your Squirtle evolved huh". Shay says on seeing the Pokemon.
"Yeah we were doing non-stop training Shay so I was able to evolve Wartortle before I even reached finished my first gym" Trent replies.
"That's some training you did Trent but I am not going to lose no matter what right Charmander," Shay says with confidence.
"Char" Charmander responds.
Squirtle looks at Ava and sees Ava, tensed.
Ava looked more concerned at the ongoing battle.
"A Wartortle, not only his Squirtle evolved but also has a type advantage against Charmander" Ava thought
"His wartortle already has the type advantage when it comes to my Charmander." Shay thought.
But Shay notices his Charmander.
"As long as he wants to fight I won't give up"
"It's gonna take a lot more than type advantage to beat my Charmander" smiles Shay.
"Use hydro pump" Trent shouts.
"All right dodge it using dig" Shay commands.
"Just as I predicted, Wartortle use Mega Punch on the ground," says Trent.
Wartortle uses Mega Punch on the ground and Charmander comes out of the ground due to the shaking of the ground.
"Alright now use Hydro Pump". Wartortle uses Hydro Pump on Charmander who is still floating in the air.
Charmander falls on the ground hard from the impact.
"Charmander is unable - " but before Nurse Joy declares.
Charmander still even though wobbling still stands up.
"Charmander return" Charmander returns.
"Rest well, Charmander you did good" Shay says to the poke ball.
"I guess you are up buddy," Shay says looking at Shaymin
"Min" responds Shaymin, with determination and runs off to the arena.
Shaymin transforms into the sky and starts to hover.
"Wartortle use Hydro Pump," says Trent.
"Use Double Team and dodge it" Shay commands.
Shaymin dodges it using Double Team.
"Nice one," thinks Ava.
"Alright now use Whirlpool".
"Use Hyperbeam".
Wartorle uses Whirlpool and Shaymin uses Hyperbeam. Hyperbeam hits Wartorle before the Whirlpool hits Shaymin. Wartorle struggles to get up.
"Woah it's still up," Shay exclaims.
"Use Hydro Pump now" Trent commands.
"Use Hyper Beam" Shay yells.
The Hydro Pump and Hyper Beam clash with one another.
"Yaaa keep pusing" yells both Shay and Trent.
After holding on for almost ten seconds both attacks lead to a giant explosion and both Shaymin and Wartortle get pushed aback.
"Are you okay?" asks both Shay and Trent to their respective Pokemon.
Both Wartortle and Shaymin acknowledge that they are fine and get up slowly.
"Psst? Can't use Psycic as Wartortle is pretty heavy and Shaymin is already weak from the previous attack. Also, Wartortle is weak so. Need something else," Shay thinks.
"To build up Shaymin's strength he needs more time." Shay thought.
"Shaymin come back"
"Huh?" asks Trent confused.
Shaymin transforms into land form and comes back.
He takes out Charmander's Poke Ball.
"I need you buddy to hold him for some time. I will guide you just follow me" Shay says to the Pokeball before throwing it.
Charmander appears.
"Char"
"You bought your Charmander back huh?" asks Trent confused.
"What are you planning?" asks Trent.
"You will see" Shay responds.
"Alright, Wartortle use water pulse"
"Charmander use Protect"
Charmander uses Protect and protects itself from Water Pulse.
"Now use Icy Wind"
"Use Ember and melt it off"
Charmander uses ember but due to the previous Water Pulse cannot fully counteract the Icy Wind attack. Charmander gets hit.
"Charmander hold on" Shay commands.
"Char" Charmander struggles to get up.
"Okay now use Body Slam"
"Use Protect"
Charmander uses Protect but it is weak compared to Wartortle's body slam. Charmander gets hit and is pushed back a distance but the impact was not as hard as expected.
Shay looks at Shaymin.
Shaymin shakes his head.
"Okay that's it let's finish it" Trent exclaims.
"Wartortle use Take Down"
Wartortle uses Take Down and nullify Charmander's Protect.
A loud thud and smoke fills the arena.
"Charmander is unable to battle" confirms Nurse Joy.
"Charmander return" Shay calls back Charmander.
"Thank you, Charmander, thanks for everything you've done. Have a very good rest." Shay tells the Poke Ball.
Shaymin changes it to his sky form and immediately rushes to the arena.
"Let's finish this Shaymin" Shay says with determination.
"Min" acknowledges Shaymin.
"Let's go, use Hydro Pump" yells Trent to Wartortle.
"Shaymin, use Seed Flare," Shay tells Shaymin.
This time there is no holdback. Shaymin's seed flare cuts through Wartortle's Hydro Pump and Wartortle gets a critical hit.
Wartortle gets heavily pushed back. But still gets up slowly.
"Alright if it still wants to fight, Shaymin, use Giga Impact"
"Wartortle use Iron defence"
As Wartortle takes a defence stance to face Shaymin's Giga Impact.
But Wartortle was already weak due to the previous battle.
Shaymin tears through its Iron Defence and the hit is critical.
The arena is filled with a lot of smoke and dust from the attack.
"Wartortle is unable to battle and this battle is won by Shay" Nurse Joy confirms.
"The ranking is updated as of this moment congrats Shay" Nurse Joy adds.
A notification comes up in the Pokedex "Woah my rank now is 102400" Shay confirms.
"Wartortle return You did your best Wartortle." Trent acknowledging. "Shay won?" thinks Ava surprised "After all that he won?".
"Never seen a trainer use tactics like you" Trent exclaims.
"Thank you, Trent, as long as my Pokemon doesn't give up I won't give up as well" Shay replies.
"Do tell me how did your Shaymin heal itself. I saw that you Shaymin regained strength the second time he came to battle" Trent asked.
"Shaymin in his land form heals himself of any condition that was established on him from the previous battle. So that's why I withdrew Shaymin for some time so that he can heal himself while in his land form. If it was not for my Charmander, Shaymin would have been as weak as your Wartortle. It could have been a draw but the rules state that in a Pokemon Battle, a Pokemon can be withdrawn so I made that switch. That was the only reason for my victory."
"Isn't Shaymin a mythical Pokemon? How come you have it?"
"I am helping out Professor with research data. So measuring Shaymin's full capability in the process"
"Oh well I hope you will battle me again in the future when I become even stronger and then I will win back the rank I've lost with you" Trent says.
"Sure do and let's also race towards getting to the Pokemon League first okay?" Shay confirms.
"Sure" Trent replies.
Trent turns to walk away.
"Next time Shay I will break my losing streak you can count on that," Trent says to himself.
"Hmm," says Trent and exits the Pokemon Center.
"Now's your chance Ava let's go" thinks Ava and approaches Shay.
"Huh," Shay notices Ava coming towards him.
"Wow, congrats Shay," says Ava smiling.
Shay smiles and replies,
"Thanks, Ava I saw you there while I was battling you looked worried."
"Hmm, you did?" asks Ava blushing
"Thanks for cheering me Ava" he thanks and notices her Squirtle.
"Say Squirtle remember me?" Shay asks Squirtle.
"Squirtle" gets excited and jumps on him.
" It's okay ha ha ha ha" Shay starts smiling.
"Min?" Shaymin getting jealous looks at Squirtke with murderous intent..
"Hmm," Ava smiled.
Inside the Pokemon Center, Shay and Shaymin eating food.
Ava and Squirtle also sitting across the table.
"Oh, this is so good" Shay acknowledges.
Ava smiles.
"Thanks a lot, Shay" she adds.
Shay looks at Ava.
"Huh for what"
"You know for the Spearow incident" she says.
"Oh, it's nothing anybody would have done what I did?" Shay replies smiling.
"Not everyone," Ava says slowly.
"Huh wait what was that" asks Shay.
"Oh, nothing" Ava replies blushing.
"Huh okay," Shay continues with his food.
"So umm Shay what's your plan for today?" asks Ava.
"I was planning to get my first gym badge but the gym is closed today due to the Pokemon Showcase happening in the city so you see I was planning to do some more special training today," Shay explains.
"Oh we were planning to go to see the showcase I always wanted to see the showcase but never had the chance," says Ava.
"Great" Shay replies.
"You could also come with us you know umm to see the showcase," Ava asked.
"Well you see umm I was planning to do some more training today"
"You just had a battle and you should have some time to relax, giving rest to your Pokemon and you are also important. Not overdoing is also good training right? When was the last time you had a break huh? So umm just take a break today" Ava sternly explains.
"Huh," Shay getting flustered.
"Hmm you are right" he replies.
"Then let's go to the Pokemon showcase" acknowledges Shay.
"Yay," says Ava.
As they were walking across the Pewter City.
"So Ava how are you doing now you know after that Spearow incident," asks Shay.
"I am doing great Shay thanks," says Ava smiling.
Shay smiles.
"Why do I feel like this when he speaks with me" Ava thinks.
"Shay there is one more thing do you-" and before she could complete.
"Alright we are here I will go get the tickets okay you stay here" Shay informs and runs off.
"Huh okay?" Ava replies.
Shay goes to get the tickets.
Meanwhile,
"How can I bring about the incident that happened five years ago what if he doesn't remember me? Oh, I just hope everything turns out for the better. Have courage Ava and ask him while you get the chance." Ava thinks determined.
"Alright I got the tickets let's go in now" says Shay bringing the tickets. "Okay," says Ava.
Inside the building Ava and Shay are seated it is dark.
"Wow, so many people have come here to see the showcase amazing crowd" Shay surprised.
"Yeah, I did not expect this many people to be interested in Showcases since it was just introduced three years ago in Kanto," Ava adds.
Alright, suddenly a stage is shown in the light and a guy holding a mike appears from downstairs in an elevation platform.
"Hello, good evening and welcome you all to Kanto's first showcase this year. I'm Barron your host I will be the host for this year's Kanto Showcase tournament happening throughout the Kanto region in the coming months. As you know the rules are as follows. There are only two class tournaments in the Kanto. Amateur class and the Pro class. A person must have won at minimum three Amateur class tournaments before competing in the Pro tournament where the new Jewel of Kanto will be named. A person winning the Amateur class tournament will be awarded these gemstones and a person with three of these stones will be qualified for the Pro tournament" Barron explains.
"Now I would like to introduce some special guests that have arrived in Kanto to witness the opening ceremony of this year's showcase. Please give a big round of applause to Choreographer and critic Helda." A light is shown on that person.
The crowd goes wild. Shay smiles at seeing the person.
"Now I would like to introduce the current Jewel of Kanto Leola"
"A light is shown on a girl and her Pokemon. The crowd goes wild and chants her name.
"Leola, Leola Leola"
"Woah Leola" shouts Ava getting up from her seat.
"Huh? Who is Leola?" asks Shay.
"Oh, she is just great she has not lost the title jewel for three years now. She is just the best." Ava adds.
"Oh I wish I could be like her"
"Hmm then don't you want to participate in the showcase," asks Shay smiling.
"Huh me participating in the showcase?" asks Ava surprised.
"Yeah, why not?"
"Huh" asks Ava.
"Well like you I am also trying to reach my goal of becoming the strongest Pokemon trainer one day just like Leone and the first step to that is winning gym battles and qualifying for the Pokemon league that is why I am on my journey so if being like Leola and performing is what you want to be then you have to participate in the showcase. These are the endless possibilities of the journey, right? When you have a Pokemon as a partner nothing is impossible. You give it everything you got." Shay explains.
"Oh, Shay," thinks Ava.
"You're right Shay. A long time ago my goal was to be like Leola and I thought that was impossible at my home I left that goal, I felt empty but now since I am taking a journey and have my Pokemon now, now I can be whatever I wanna be there is no restrictions or control endless possibilities." thinks Ava.
"Uh hello, Ava?" Shay gets worried as she zoned out for a moment to realise her thoughts.
"Thank you Shay that means a lot" Ava tears in her eyes.
"Hmm," Shay replies smiling.
"Alright everyone thanks for the support I wish my competitors all the best. Everyone competing for this title give your all. I hereby declare the Kanto Showcases for this year officially opened" says Leola from the stage.
Crackers light the sky and light works are also shown and the crowd goes to full energy.
"Woah this is soo cool" Shay shouts.
"Alright let's introduce the participants who will be competing for this stone today. All participants please make way for the introduction." Barron says and a platform brings six participants from beneath the floor.
"All right you have got three rounds in this showcase first is pie pie-making competition using Pokemon coordination. Those selected will go on to the next round a Pokemon fashion parade and the top three participants will go on to the freestyle performance where they have to perform with their Pokemon. All of you get set for an electrifying evening and have a blast signing off" Barron explains.
Suddenly the tummy of Shay rumbles. Ava hears this.
"Ha ha ha ha hearing the word pie is making me hungry?" Shay adds.
"Here have this I baked an apple pie yesterday" Ava handed him the pie.
"Oh, this is good" Shay acknowledges after eating.
"Thanks, Shay' says Ava happily.
"Here you go Shaymin a treat for you as well" Avagiving Pokemon food to Shaymin.
Shaymin jumps on Ava's lap and starts eating the treat.
So all the competitions happened, and it was time for the next performance.
"Please everyone give a big round of applause for Beneta" says Barron.
"Amazing" Shay exclaims.
"Hmm?" Ava looks at Shay with jealousy.
A floor appears and Beneta with her Pokemon Bulbasaur are making pies with a nice tune.
"Woah Beneeta is also really good at making pies right? Ava" asks Shay.
"Hmm not good as me that's for sure" Ava replies.
"Huh?" Shay gets confused after hearing the response.
Shay smiles.
"And now it's time for the judges to taste their pies," says Barron.
After tasting.
"And the contestants that go to the next round are -"
And four names were displayed on the screen.
"Alright viewers and Pokemon next is a fashion parade round, contestants will have to dress up their Pokemon and do a ramp walk. Top performers will be decided based on the voting done by you public and viewers can vote using their phones or pokedexes please select the necessary colour for each contestant. So with that said please welcome our first contestant." Barron explains.
After their majestic performance.
"Okay, now it's time for you to cast the votes all of you present in the audience choose the appropriate glow stick and press the button. Viewers around the world press the appropriate colour button on your screen to cast your vote. The winners are, three names were displayed on the screen.
"Next is the freestyle performance and you public will be the judge after the three performances who do you feel good please cast the votes for them," Barron adds.
"Woah" and the audience claps.
Meanwhile, Helda is not interested. "Is this all they have to offer?" says Helda to herself and starts to leave.
"All right now is your time to cast your vote all of you use the appropriate colour and cast your vote to decide who wins the first stone of this year's Kanto performance" says Barron. Everyone cast their vote
"And the winner for the first showcase is Beneeta," says Barron. And the crowd goes wild.
Outside the stage.
"Woah this was fun right Shaymin"
"Min" Shaymin replies.
"So did I" Ava also adds.
"Great"
Just then a group of photographers and people gather at a distance. "Leola and Helda are leaving," Ava said.
"Hmm," Shay greets those words with a smile looking at Helda.
So they start walking back to the Pokemon Center.
"So Ava where are you headed to from here?" asks Shay.
"Who me? Well, I I…" Ava gets flustered.
"Why don't you come with me and watch the gym battle tomorrow I could use the support if you are free," Shay asks.
"Huh, Sure thing I would love to come" Ava replies instantly.
"Great thanks" and smiles.
Ava smiling and blushing.
"Thanks, Shay for asking me, I would support you no matter what after everything that you have done for me." thinks Ava.
"So Shay is going to face his first gym battle with Ava cheering him on. Will they be successful in defeating Brock and did Ava finally discover her dream as their journey continues…."
