Hearing him regard my mother like she was some lover of his that he lost in a situation that was not his fault made me boil.

All the years that I had pretended to be okay with everything he said and he did came tumbling down.

Deep down, I knew it was smarter to keep silent. The man had kept me by his side for years because he thought I was different.

Unique. A sociopath that didn't mind being trampled on as long as he got what he fucking wanted.

"It's been a long time? That is what you have to say? It's been a long time!?"

I felt the rage I'd suppressed for years bubbling to the surface, threatening to overflow. My hands clenched into fists at my sides, nails digging into my palms.

"Isaac," my mom tried again, her voice soft and pleading. But I was beyond listening.
