章 60: Chapter 60: A New Assignment

The sun beat down on the Marineford training field, casting long shadows across the sparring grounds. Vulcan stood across from Garp, who had his arms crossed, a wide grin plastered on his face. Despite the heat, the Vice Admiral looked unfazed, while Vulcan wiped sweat from his brow.

"Alright, brat!" Garp bellowed, his voice echoing across the field. "No holding back today. Show me everything you've learned!"

Vulcan had been through Garp's training countless times, and he knew his grandfather wasn't going to go easy on him. But now, after surviving the Thriller Bark mission and experiencing firsthand the power of a Shichibukai, Vulcan wasn't holding anything back either.

"Fine, old man," Vulcan said, gripping his naginata. "Don't blame me if you can't keep up!"

Garp's grin widened. "We'll see about that! Come at me, brat!"

In a blur, Garp launched himself forward, his massive fist hurtling toward Vulcan like a cannonball. But Vulcan was ready—he activated Soru, vanishing from sight and reappearing behind Garp in an instant. The ground cracked where Garp's punch had landed, but Vulcan had avoided the blow.

"Not bad!" Garp said, turning with a grin. "But you're not fast enough!"

"Let's see if you can handle this!" Vulcan shouted, lunging forward with his naginata. Garp, quick as ever, caught the blade with his bare hand, stopping it mid-swing.

Vulcan didn't hesitate. He hardened his body with Tekkai, preparing for Garp's counterattack. But Garp was faster than expected—he yanked Vulcan's naginata out of his hand, flinging him into the air.

Vulcan twisted in midair, using Soru again to land safely on the ground. He wasn't done yet.

"Alright, let's see how you handle this!" Vulcan shouted, dashing forward again. This time, he aimed a series of rapid-fire Shigan strikes at Garp, his fingers stabbing the air like bullets.

Garp grinned, blocking the attacks with his forearm. The blows were fast and powerful, but not enough to break through Garp's defense. With a laugh, Garp countered with a punch that sent Vulcan skidding across the field.

"Still too slow!" Garp called out, his voice booming. "You've got power, but you're not thinking ahead!"

Vulcan groaned, wiping the blood from his mouth as he stood up. "I'll show you thinking ahead!"

With a burst of Soru, Vulcan vanished again, appearing behind Garp and launching another series of Shigan attacks. But Garp had anticipated it—he turned just in time, blocking Vulcan's strikes and retaliating with a massive punch.

Vulcan activated Tekkai just in time, hardening his body to absorb the blow. The impact sent him flying again, but he managed to land on his feet this time, his chest heaving.

"That all you got?" Garp taunted, laughing. "Come on, brat! You're not done yet!"

Vulcan's frustration grew. He had used everything he had, but Garp was still toying with him. But there was something else inside him, something he had felt before—when he fought Moria. That overwhelming pressure, that strange power… it was still there, waiting to be unleashed.

"I'm not done!" Vulcan shouted, charging at Garp one more time. He used Soru to close the distance, launching another barrage of Shigan strikes. Each hit was faster, more precise, and more powerful than before.

But Garp was still faster. With a single swing of his arm, he blocked Vulcan's attacks and sent him crashing to the ground. Vulcan coughed, struggling to stand.

"That's enough for today!" Garp bellowed, walking over to where Vulcan lay on the ground. "You've got potential, but you're still thinking too small!"

Vulcan groaned as he sat up, rubbing his side. "Yeah, yeah… I'll keep that in mind."

Later that evening, Vulcan sat in his quarters, still sore from the training. He stared at the devil fruit sitting on the table beside him, turning it in his hands. The fruit was strange—mysterious—but Vulcan wasn't sure if he should eat it.

"Garp?" Vulcan called out, hearing his grandfather rummaging around in the next room.

"Yeah, brat?" Garp replied, his voice muffled by a mouthful of crackers.

Vulcan hesitated for a moment. "What's the deal with these devil fruits? I found one on the island, and I don't know if I should eat it or not."

Garp walked into the room, still munching on his crackers. "Devil fruits give you insane power, but you lose the ability to swim. And there's no telling what kind of power you'll get. Some are great; others are useless."

Vulcan frowned, setting the fruit down. "Is it worth it, though? Do I need it?"

Garp grinned, leaning against the doorframe. "That's up to you, brat. I've been strong without a devil fruit. But if you think it'll help, then go for it."

Vulcan nodded slowly, his mind wandering back to the fight with Moria. There was something else on his mind—something bigger than the devil fruit.

"Garp," Vulcan said slowly, "when I fought Moria, something happened. There was this… pressure. I don't know how to explain it, but it felt like everything around me was being crushed. People collapsed, and I wasn't even touching them."

Garp's eyes narrowed slightly. "Go on."

"It was like… I was pushing them down with my mind. What was that?"

Garp chuckled. "Sounds like Conqueror's Haki, brat. It's a power only a few people have. It lets you dominate the wills of others without touching them."

"Haki?" Vulcan repeated, confused. "What's that?"

"It's a rare power," Garp explained. "Conqueror's Haki is one of the rarest forms. Only the strongest can use it. Looks like you've got it in you."

Vulcan sat in stunned silence, processing the information. "Conqueror's Haki, huh? That could be useful."

"Don't get too cocky," Garp warned, laughing. "You've got the potential, but you've still got a long way to go before you can use it properly."

Vulcan grinned. "I'll keep that in mind, old man."
