章 5: Treason

Kleint, who had fallen, suddenly looked up; his expression darkened entirely as he looked at Davey's face, staring at him coldly.

Kleint looked into Davey's brown eyes with a dark and puzzled expression, also feeling a pain in his legs. With a hoarse voice, he weakly asked, "What happened?"

Davey did not respond immediately, but he pushed back his black hair with his hand, and all the expressions of concern and fear from before were changed to cold and indifferent.

He let out a sigh and looked coldly at Klaint. "Phew, finally, I can stop acting like a nervous guy," Davey said in a tired tone.

"What the..." Kleint looked at Davey with a puzzled expression; he couldn't believe what he heard.

"Pff, why are you so surprised? You didn't expect this kind of development, did you?" Davey laughed amusedly, then continued speaking disappointedly, "But it is a shame having to use you as a meat shield."

"What do you mean by that?" asked Kleint, ignoring the sounds of the monsters getting closer and closer.

Why did he do this? Is he the same guy as before? Kleint has difficulty believing what's coming from Davey's lips. It's like he's in front of a different person than a few minutes ago.

However, he already knew where this was going.

I see... Now it all makes sense... Kleint thought bitterly, and a rage was beginning to emerge from deep within him.

"All of the above was a simple act; I simply found you useful. So I could increase my chances of survival," Davey said with a smile, looking straight into Klein's eyes, "Tsk, tsk. But it's too bad I had to throw you away so easily. That brain of yours would have benefitted me in the future..."

"So, you're discarding me because I'm no longer useful..." Kleint spat coldly, glaring hatefully at Davey.

So that's why he was acting that way... He quickly understood why Davey acted that way and didn't realize it was an act.

It seems that too much time in isolation had worked against him at this critical moment when you don't know when you're going to die by making a wrong decision.

Davey's lips drew into a big evil grin as he met Kleint's red eyes that glowed with pure hatred. He slowly bent down and lifted Kleint's face and slowly caressed it.

And he said as he licked his lips, looking at Kleint's bewildered expression: "Exactly, you are no longer of any use to me; although I like you, I have to get rid of you. If you hadn't gotten hurt and weren't full of blood, I wouldn't have taken this action. Tsk, tsk. It's such a waste to get rid of a person I like..... Sigh, but I'll see you in hell, my dear~.."

After saying that, Davey walked over to Kleint's body, took the supplies from him, left only the bag of coins, and ran off, following the group ahead, running off the monsters.

Kleint spat in disgust as he reacted, not expecting that at all. "So, I was in his hand from the start..." He muttered in a hollow, chilling voice, watching Davey's figure disappear into the trees.

He turned around, and his red eyes were deep and dark, seeming to fall forever into the abyss. His beautiful red eyes, cold yet cloudy, captured the cold, dark sky with no clouds and no moon.

"Screech!"

The monsters could be heard only a few meters away from him. But Kleint had no will to move because it was a futile effort.

He can't run because Davey cuts his tendons, rendering his legs useless. So, trying to run was practically useless for him, right?

He didn't have much strength either because he spent almost all of it killing the monster from before. In addition, his body was going numb, making it even more difficult for him to move.

So, his chances of survival were 0.00003%. In short, there was practically no chance of escaping the monsters alive.

"Phew... So I get this for trusting so easily." An empty sigh left Kleint's lips, and they began to crawl across the damp ground toward a tree.

Once lying on the rugged bark of a tree, his breathing ragged and erratic.

Oh, shit... Yes, he managed to survive this, Davey; I'll do my best to kill you in the worst possible way I can think of! Kleint's face went completely dark, and his mouth tightened, marking his jaw; his red eyes shone brightly with hatred, promising to take revenge on Davey if he managed to survive.

"Screech!"

"Screech!"

Scanning the surroundings, he realized he had no escape; the man-eating monsters surrounded him, closing any escape route.

What do I do now? Kleint asked themselves while breathing heavily; he was already starting to get dizzy from blood loss.

The chances of survival now dropped to 0.000001% because his condition was steadily deteriorating as time went on. But the chance of escaping the monsters was minuscule.

But he still had a way to get out of the monsters alive.

Kleint's brain was working at full speed in search of a solution. But something was bothering him.

If he managed to survive the monsters, he obviously wouldn't come out unscathed, so into his head came several questions.

Will he survive after escaping? What will he do next? Won't he die after escaping from the monsters? Many more kept coming into his head.

But the one that made the most noise was.

Won't he die after escaping from the monsters?

Because the safest scenario would be that after surviving, he will die from wounds or lack of blood.

What do I do now...? thought Kleint, leaning his head against the hard bark of the tree.

So I'm going to die... No, I can't die yet! I have to kill the son of a bitch!

Whisper... Whisper...

Kleint froze as he heard the bushes move and saw the vast body of the man-eating monster very close to him. He moved slowly to the right and began to crawl slowly, trying to make as little noise as possible.

Survive... survive... survive... survive... survive... survive... survive... survive... survive...

He continued crawling on the wet ground, and his body and clothes began to fill with mud as he repeated the same word like a broken record.

As he crawled, he didn't run into any monsters head-on, as if the [Luck] stat was working and increasing his chances of survival.

I'm fortunate... Kleint thought with hope, feeling how he was running out of strength.

Just then, he passed through a thick tree root, and at that moment, some of the coins fell to the ground, making a loud, high-pitched noise in the silent forest, drawing the attention of the nearby monsters.

"Oh, shit..." All Kleint could do was let out a curse.

"Screech!"

"Screech!"

Numerous man-eating monsters rushed towards where Kleint was at great speed. The ground vibrated intensely, and the sounds of the monsters could be heard throughout the forest. They were causing all the survivors to shudder and quickly hide.

On the other hand, the cause of this commotion was crawling rapidly on the ground like a centipede.

"Fuck, I can't have this kind of luck," Kleint muttered, pursing his lips and cursing his lousy Luck; with his entire body of cuts, his crimson blood had already mixed with that of the monster.

One of the man-eating monsters appeared next to Klein and attacked him with one of its claws.

Kleint, defenseless, could not dodge the blow that hit him squarely in the stomach.

"Puaj…"

Kleint's body flew through the trees after receiving a full blow from the man-eating monster and crashed hard into a nearby tree.

Boom!

"Argh!!!! Shit how it hurts!"Kleint tried to crawl again to dig in. His whole body hurt like hell, but he couldn't stay still; he had to survive so he could get revenge on that bastard.

Before he could react, another monster hit him in the left side, sending him flying through the air again; he almost wholly lost consciousness due to this second blow, and only one thought was going through his mind.

So I won't be able to get even with that one, you son of a bitch! Kleint thought, feeling his conscience fading.

Boom!

"Argh!!!!" Klein's body impacted with great force again on the hard bark of the tree. With that impact, most of his ribs were fractured, puncturing several organs in the process, further increasing the pain in his body.

"Ahhh!!!" Kleint screamed from the throbbing pain he was feeling in his body. He looked to the side with difficulty; he saw two man-eating monsters rapidly approaching where he was, dodging them with great agility in the trees.

"It seems that I am in my last moments," Kleint murmured sadly, silent tears falling down his cheeks, seeing that he could not take revenge.

He no longer had the strength to move; his body was a mess both externally and internally; it is even admirable that he had not yet lost consciousness due to the conditions of his body.

He had pushed himself beyond the limits of his emaciated and frail body. He had indeed pushed himself as hard as ever to survive... But fate did not want Kleint to leave this place alive.

With a last sigh, Kleint closed his eyes in surrender, awaiting his death.

So I'm going to die... Now that I think about it, death doesn't seem like a bad option... His lips curved outward faintly, drawing a weak but relieved smile.

One of the man-eating monsters quickened its pace and, with two quick movements, reached Kleint's body, who had already given up and accepted his fate with a smile.

The man-eating monster grabs Kleint's body and opens its maw wide, revealing all of its pointy teeth filled with crimson blood and organs.

Kleint, at that moment, slightly opened his eyes and was met with the man-eating monster's blood-filled, pointed teeth, and his whole body instinctively shuddered with terror and fear to the core.

It seems my time has come...

With that last thought, Kleint closed his eyes tightly.

The man-eating monster closed its enormous jaws with great force and speed to crush Kleint's body as it screamed, making its piercing screams heard throughout the forest.

Increasing the terror and fear in the hearts of the people who find themselves in this dark and dangerous forest.
