Stark led Shiller towards the top-level power distribution room, glancing around as they walked and saying, "This place still maintains the layout from when I first took over Stark Group, it brings back memories..."
Just as he turned his head to look at the glass next to him, a shadow of a skull covered with long black hair flickered past the glass. Stark let out a loud scream again.
He wanted to turn back and find Shiller, but as he turned around, he caught sight of a circus clown with exaggerated wigs and a red nose at the end of the hallway behind him, casting a shadow that flickered past.
Stark turned his face back again and let out a horrific scream, not knowing where to turn in the moment.
"Are you afraid of ghosts?" Shiller asked as he looked at Stark, then he continued, "Didn't you supply Nick with those theories about ghosts?"
"Yes, but it's not the same as studying them. It's like a medical student who often dissects bodies running away from a zombie. The ghosts in the laboratory wouldn't rush up to bite me!"
Looking somewhat paranoid, Stark glanced around and frowned in reminiscence, "When I was promoted, I don't remember seeing this cosmos, or it wasn't like this then."
"Because according to our timeline, all of this happened in the past year." Shiller said, looking at the ghostly reflection in the mirror.
Stark popped his mouth open and hesitated, "You can see them too, but according to my original research, only the brainwave frequency of people who are afraid of ghosts..."
"There are many me." Shiller replied concisely.
Stark snorted at Shiller's reply, clearly not content, but he did not say anything else. As he turned around to walk away, he saw a pair of light, swollen feet covered in death spots almost hitting his forehead.
"Agh!!!!!"
After yelling, Stark tightly clenched his fist, turned his head and shouted at Shiller who was coming over.
"You said you were going out to dump the trash and asked whether I wanted to accompany you. You then freaking kicked me into the teleporter, Shiller! You damned liar, you deceived me again!!!!"
"I did come to dump the trash."
"Where is the trash?"
"Dumped."
Stark slapped his forehead.
Shiller looked at him and said, "I'm very hungry."
Stark reluctantly turned around and continued to walk ahead, but the hanging corpse and the ghostly woman with disheveled hair kept appearing in front of him to scare him. He spent several minutes walking a few dozen meters without finishing.
Shiller then found out that Stark's nature is not about being afraid of ghosts. He was scared of any sudden scares, known as "jump scares" in English.
The reason he came to this conclusion was that when a black creature that didn't look too different from an alien suddenly rushed out from the door of the power house where they were heading, Stark was still startled.
But for some reason, this black creature hurriedly ran across the ceiling, ignoring Stark and Shiller. Shiller looked at its retreating figure and said regretfully, "If only you'd moved a bit faster, we might have been able to catch it."
"Forget about it." Stark swallowed a mouthful of saliva, "I just saw a wound on the back of that thing. It must have been escaping because it couldn't beat some monster inside. What's in the power room?"
Stark cautiously approached the door of the power room, and through the open crack, he saw a thin woman with disheveled hair. What caught his attention was her two claw-like hands, dangling by her side like a ghost's.
"What the hell? Did a monster from a movie or TV show come alive? Isn't this universe chaotic enough?" Stark lowered his voice, "I think I've seen this thing in a game Peter was playing. Does it go berserk as soon as the sound gets louder?"
"Nick created them for his inspiration from movies and games." Shiller calmly said.
Stark widened his eyes, "This is created by Nick, what the hell is he up to?!!"
Then he looked somewhat troubled at the witch who had yet to calm down. Upon a closer inspection, he found that the skin of this female humanoid monster was very shriveled, looking like a mummy. Where on earth did Nick dig this thing up from?
After hesitating for a moment, Stark made up his mind. He said, "I know where the power interface is. In theory, we can bypass this monster. The only problem is I don't have night vision ability, so I'm afraid it has to rely on your symbiont..."
"He's on vacation."
"What?"
"Literally, Gray Mist is on vacation, so I don't have a symbiont available now." Shiller stood on the other side of the door, looking at Stark and said, "Tell me your plan and then I can go in."
But then he suddenly saw Stark hesitate, his brown eyes fixed unblinkingly on Shiller, and he asked, "So you're saying you can get hurt now?"
Shiller reached out and touched the blood flowing from the wound on his forehead.
With some guilt, Stark averted his gaze, touched his lips and said, "You shouldn't use a doctor's body for this kind of thing. It's insane."
"We are Shiller too."
"Of course you are not." Stark was not joking at all, he said, "You are just parasites living in his body causing him to lose control and face danger, no different from possessed ghosts."
Shiller was about to voice his thoughts, but Stark pre-empted him and said, "I know you call yourself Morbid, claiming to be the manifestation of Shiller's mental disorder, but who would keep reminding a patient of their illness?"
"But we are also the source of his power."
"What power?" Stark, surprised, interrogates, then realizes Shiller isn't saying anything. More specifically, he is staring at the injury on Stark's head.
Stark recollected that during the fighting, Shiller's strength was abnormally strong. When he fought the giant zombie guard, it was even more outrageous. The zombie weighed at least 250 pounds, but Shiller could lift it as if it were a rag doll and smash it to the ground.
Shiller glanced at the status through the door slit and said, "I can artificially disengage muscle restrictions."
Stark's eyes widened, Shiller's hand pressed against the door continued, "And I have a range of perception, like a radar, I can feel that the woman in the room has calmed down."
Just as Stark was about to say something, a series of interrupted cries arose from inside the room. Stark remembered what Peter had explained to him, this so-called witch-like creature would cry precisely where she needs to be crossed, anyone disturbing her would be madly retaliated against.
"This is too risky." Stark retracted his lips revealing his teeth, looking at Shiller said, "Even if you won't die, it will hurt a lot."
"But your good doctor won't feel it."
Stark had no words to say, but he was always very opposed to letting his friends take risks. His wise mind began to whirl wildly until suddenly, he had an inspired thought.
"Why didn't this monster chase that alien?" Stark rolled his eyes upwards and looked at the ceiling, "She can't fly or climb, so above is safe ... follow me, let's go upstairs!"
Shiller, however, kept eyeing the creature unwilling to leave. Stark realized that his normal trick to deal with Helen was suitable for the present situation because Shiller really looked like a child squatting in front of the shelf unwilling to leave an ornate toy.
"Listen, I don't think you're Shiller, so I'm likely to give you another name. I've seen parts of the so-called mental disorder before, this figure also loved to talk gibberish, so I call him AI 1, and you're AI 2…"
Shiller finally looked away, focusing his attention on Stark said, "Besides Greed, the first one you met should be Arrogant ..."
"That's Hydra 1." Stark stood up straight, hands on his hips, then pointed a finger and declared, "Alright, AI 2, let's not waste any more time, you better not consider that woman as food. Based on my rich understanding of female figures, she should be nothing but bones. I promise you, even if you capture her at great pains, you definitely wouldn't get a mouthful of meat."
Shiller, reluctantly, stood up straight and Stark finally managed to take him upstairs.
Eddie was standing in a utility room, pulling out a roll of fire safety straps from under the cabinet. They were meant for rapid descending of disaster victims from high-rise buildings, thus, the strap was very long and impressively sturdy.
"What are you trying to do?" Venom asked.
"I plan to fall straight to the ground from the window to avoid any zombies that might exist in the hospital hallway and wards." Eddie licked his lips, looking very nervous. He realized this was the eighth floor, an overly thrilling height for him.
"Are you kidding me?!" Venom exclaimed in disbelief, "When I controlled your body, you wouldn't even jump from the sixth floor. Now you say you want to descend from the eighth floor using this torn strap without my help?!"
Eddie squatted down and sucked in a deep breath, tightly grasping the fire safety strap, and said, "Listen, Venom, I'm not trying to be a hero, you must understand, we are all trying to survive in an unfamiliar world; no supply, no way out."
"Now is not the time for you to kill, zombies cannot attack your symbiotic factor, but that doesn't mean you and them are without cost when fighting. As long as we fight, there will be injuries. Once your power runs out, both of us will have to die."
"As you can see, the situation of this world is very strange. What I saw just now was not my illusion. There might be many more unimaginable monsters here, so we must prepare for the worst. Your power should be saved for more important times."
"Are you serious, Eddie?!" Venom asked incredulously, "Are you planning to rely on your physical body to fight with those monsters you absolutely can't defeat?"
"I'm not you, Venom." Eddie let his hand down, placed the fire safety strap at his feet, rested his arm on his knee and said, "I'm not a monster born strong but can't use strength because of various reasons. Being strong is not my normal state, being weak is."
"Humans are a fragile species that can kill themselves by missing a step on the stairs. We managed to survive and rule this world, not because of our muscular strength. I will survive here, with you. Understand?"
After a long silence, Venom spoke like a child throwing a tantrum, "I still think you're crazy, but suit yourself. If I have to save you, you have to buy me three times the chocolate balls when we get back."
Eddie picked up the fire safety strap and started strapping it to his body and said, "Then you can just starve."
