章 1955: Chapter 1318: Interstellar Grand Stage (25)_1

"This is Riley, this is Gwen. They're both Spider Man. They have decided to join us in investigating the villains behind the disruption at the expo as they possess spider superpowers,"

The New Warriors are located in the Bronx district's base, the Squirrel Girl introduces Riley and Gwen to the other members. Gwen is still wearing that hooded Spider Man suit. As Jarvis's slightly glowing eyes swept over her, his gaze flickered, revealing a hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth.

Riley nods first, then addresses the new Warriors, "Yes, because your base is located in the Bronx district, it's more convenient for us to stay. In fact, before we came, Gwen already had some clues."

Gwen nods, clasp her hands in front of her and stands still. She speaks in a composed tone, "I found some clues in the newspapers, which might be useful for our investigation."

Nightingale immediately leads the two of them to the meeting group. With the members seated, Gwen stands before the felt board pinned with various clues. Then she pulls out a hard drive and asks, "Do you have a computer here?"

Everyone looks at Jarvis, who stretches out a hand and says, "Hand it to me."

Gwen hands over the hard drive. Jarvis holds it in his hand and after a few seconds, he looks at Gwen and says, "How do you want me to display the contents of this hard drive? Projection?"

"Yes, projection is fine."

Jarvis nods, walks to the front of the table, takes out a mini projector from a nearby cabinet, squeezes it in his hand, and sets it on the table.

Everyone turns to look at the projection on the adjacent wall. It displays pictures of numerous news stories, which Gwen skims through one by one until finally landing on a screen that compiles all the news.

Gwen points to the images and says, "Roughly two months ago, I noticed that a news team from the Global Times was consistently reporting local news about the Bronx. From major relocation news to local special cuisines, there was always a small column on the side for them."

Nightingale furrows his brow and says, "What's so special about reporting here? Shouldn't Manhattan be favored for its local news?"

Speedball Robert nods and says, "Exactly. When I used to live in Manhattan, it was the focus of New York City's tourism promotion because it's developed and beautiful. As for the Bronx? Those journalists wish the district didn't exist. That's because the crime rate here is high, the streets are somewhat chaotic, especially in poor neighborhoods, where there are often ill-willed individuals."

"Journalists are like keen hunting dogs, sniffing out news. They know that the ones interested in tourism and local businesses are the middle class. Which rich man would go on a tour to the Bronx? Isn't Central Park enough for them?"

Gwen nods again, "Yes, that's the anomaly I found. At the time, the protest activities in the Bronx hadn't erupted on a large scale, but this news column team was persistently tracking the developments in the Bronx, which is totally abnormal."

"Brilliant idea," Wanda, who was sitting behind Jarvis, comments. "How did you think of looking through newspapers from a few months back for clues?"

" I have always had a habit of clipping out articles." Gwen responds, "It might sound old-fashioned, but it's a habit I've inherited from my father. His profession requires him to constantly keep track of the news in each district."

It now dawns on Wanda. She actually knows Gwen's true identity. Gwen is the daughter of the New York Police Department Commissioner. Given that her hardworking and responsible father probably developed the habit of clipping articles while he was young, back when information wasn't as readily available and newspapers were important tools for understanding the city.

"So, you're saying there's something wrong with this newspaper?" Nightingale conjectures, rubbing his chin, "Or perhaps something's off with this column team. They foresaw the potential protests in the Bronx, which is why they began covering the area months in advance."

"This way, those interested in the ecology of the Bronx will notice this column. Once the protests erupt, these same people are bound to buy into their reports."

Gwen speaks again, "Since the protests began, many newspapers have scrambled to report on this, but they only began paying attention to the ecology of the district after the first protest. Only this column team began covering it two months in advance."

"What's even more convincing is..." Gwen points to a few reports displayed on the screen and says, "These reports have embellished the ecology of the Bronx, especially the lives of the average local, emphasizing how happy their days are biking or walking to work."

"Clearly, they are whitewashing some violent acts in the protests. In reality, the poor state of public safety in the Bronx makes walking there at night extremely dangerous."

"Walking around New York at night is a dangerous venture," Wanda interjects, "Even for mutants like us. Even with our superpowers, we might not be able to defend ourselves from a sneak attack. My brother Pietro and I always try to avoid wandering the streets after 8 pm."
