章 56: It’s Been A While, My Saviour…?

Karyan heard clapping and a crazy, almost screaming voice from behind.

He turned around and saw a woman with long silver hair that shimmered under the dim lights. Her eyes were mismatched, one a piercing red and the other a deep, mysterious black.

She had a wild yet captivating look, with a thin smile, slim nose, and a sharp jawline. She was wearing a stylish coat and a flowing gown on her head, giving her a regal but eccentric air.

Her long boots and tight pants completed her striking appearance, "it's been so long!" She jumped and grabbed him by his neck.

As the smell of alcohol wafted from her, Karyan struggled to remember who she was, "and you are…?"

She slammed her hand on the table and exclaimed, "Reverie! You saved me from kidnappers ten years ago! Remember?"

Karyan stayed calm and replied, "Of course, I remember now, it's good to see you again, but please, let go of my neck."

Karyan let out a sigh and tapped on her hand, her grip around his neck was a bit too enthusiastic for his liking.

"Reverie," he acknowledged again, his voice steady. "Yes, I remember the incident."

Nedeira could hardly hide her irritation as Reverie's chest pressed against Karyan, her arms wrapped a little too tightly around him.

"Could you maybe not hug him so tight?" Nedeira interjected, her tone sounded sharper than she intended.

Reverie released Karyan and stepped back, though her eyes still sparkled with excitement. "Sorry, I just couldn't help it," she grinned, slightly swaying on her feet. "It's been ages, and I never got the chance to thank you properly!"

Karyan gave a nod, his expression didn't change. "Helping you wasn't my intention at first."

Nedeira watched the interaction, her arms crossed now.

She wasn't pleased with this sudden interruption, and less so with the intimate manner Reverie had imposed on Karyan.

"So, what brings you here, Reverie?" Karyan asked, his curiosity rose despite the awkwardness of their reunion.

"I've been traveling," Reverie chirped, "Seeing the world, you know? But this town's vibes are just so good, I had to stop by." She laughed, a little too loud for the quieting bar.

Nedeira raised an eyebrow, still not convinced about Reverie's bubbling personality. "Traveling sounds fun," she said, trying to keep the conversation light.

"It is!" Reverie exclaimed. She then looked at Nedeira, her dual-colored eyes assessing. "And who's this? Your girlfriend?"

Nedeira coughed, almost choking on her drink, while Karyan replied with a quick shake of his head.

"No, she's not," he stated. "Nedeira is a... colleague."

Reverie's gaze flitted between them, a knowing smirk formed on her lips. "Oh, I see. Just colleagues," she teased, drawing out the last word.

Nedeira shot Karyan a look, as if warning him not to entertain Reverie's insinuations. "We work together, that's all," she clarified, with firm words.

Reverie shrugged, seemingly unfazed by the correction. "Anyway, it's cool to see you again, Karyan. You're still saving the world one person at a time?"

Karyan's eyes narrowed slightly, a shadow crossed his face. "Something like that," he replied dryly.

Nedeira sensed the change in him, the way his mood shifted at the mention of his past deeds.

She decided to steer the conversation away from dangerous waters. "Reverie, you mentioned the vibes in town. Found any good spots?"

The question seemed to work, as Reverie's attention was diverted. "Oh, absolutely! There's this little park with the prettiest flowers, and the people here are so nice!"

As Reverie rambled on about her adventures, Nedeira relaxed slightly, glancing at Karyan to make sure he was alright.

But then a waitress brought their drinks and Reverie joined their table.

"Are you alone?" Nedeira asked.

"Yes, hahah. Being alone is awesome!"

"So why don't you go away if it's so awesome?" Nedeira mumbled through gritted teeth and a fake smile she had formed.

As Reverie continued to chat, she leaned in closer to Karyan, placing her hand on his shoulder. "So, what exactly are you doing in this country? Why are you so far from home?" she inquired, her voice turned more serious.

Nedeira watched them, realising she didn't know much about Karyan's past besides the element she felt.

She thought she knew Karyan well, how cruel and selfish he was, but nothing about his past or where he came from…?

She felt a pang of unease as Reverie touched Karyan's shoulder, her eyes narrowed as she sipped her drink.

Karyan remained silent, as Reverie's questions prodded into his personal affairs.

Noticing Karyan's lack of response, Reverie continued, "Do you have a girlfriend, Karyan? Someone waiting for you back home?" She reached out to touch his arm, but Karyan pulled back, avoiding her touch.

Nedeira's patience wore thin as she watched Reverie's persistent attempts to invade Karyan's personal space.

"Could you please stop touching him? It's making him uncomfortable," she interjected with a sharp and bossy tone.

Reverie raised an eyebrow, "And who are you to tell me what to do?" she retorted, her voice tinged with challenge.

The tension in the air escalated as Nedeira shot back, "I'm someone who cares about him and won't stand by while you invade his personal space."

Karyan sighed, standing up abruptly. "That's enough," he stated firmly.

Without another word, he turned and left the bar, leaving Reverie and Nedeira in a charged silence.

"Do you wanna fight?"

"Why shouldn't I? It's what I do for fun!"

Reverie and Nedeira continued to exchange heated words, their argument got hotter as they challenged each other to a battle.

The atmosphere grew tense, their voices rising above the general hubbub of the bar.

As Karyan made his way toward the door, he heard Nedeira's voice rise in a frustrated scream and then a sound of someone falling.

"Aaaah!!" It felt like it was forced from pain.

He immediately turned back.

"Nedeira!" Karyan raised his voice.

Reverie smirked, seeing the opportunity to sow discord. "Looks like your little friend can't handle a simple argument," she taunted.

Karyan looked at her and then on the ground to see Nedeira's body lying with no signs of life.
