章 27: Departure

Hours later, Karyan found himself sprawled on the bed, his thoughts fixed on the ceiling.

Armed with the necessary information, he planned his life ahead.

Today, Elara promised to secure a fake identity card, a key to his trip by boat to another country in pursuit of finding the sorcerer he needed.

Lying on the bed, Karyan looked around and saw a strange glowing thing in an old box.

"What is that?" he got up from the bed.

When he touched it, he saw visions showing Elara…dancing with a shadow…

Karyan had mixed feelings because the glowing thing hinted that Elara might be helping him, but at the same time, he didn't want to trust her.

The room that was once just a place for him to rest now felt like the center of a confusing story, leaving Karyan unsure about who to trust and where his choices would lead.

As Karyan was lost in thoughts about the strange artifact, Elara strolled into the room with an air of nonchalance.

He looked up, holding the glowing object, and asked, "What's this box, Elara?"

She rolled her eyes, dismissing the question, and replied with a casual shrug, "Oh, just some old stuff lying around. Don't worry about it."

Despite his curiosity, Karyan sensed her reluctance to share more.

Elara's response left him with more questions than answers, deepening the mystery surrounding the artifact, "Why you just don't tell me?"

Elara, still avoiding the questions, casually dropped a fake passport on the bed. Karyan picked it up, eyebrows raised, and noticed a fake name. "Where did you get this?" he asked.

She chewed on a frog, glancing at him. "Well, you're just a kid. Escaping alone will be tough. Someone will meet you to help you get on the boat. It's all part of the plan."

Karyan, perplexed, questioned further, "But the fake name…? Am I wanted already?"

Elara, with a sly grin, replied between bites, "Kid, sometimes a little mystery makes things more interesting. Just trust the plan, and you'll be on that boat before you know it. Now, finish packing. Time's ticking."

Karyan, a bit annoyed, said, "I'm not a kid, Elara. I might be trapped in this body, but I've seen more than you think."

Elara chuckled, taking another bite of the frog. "Oh, sweetie, you may have a few memories, but you've got the innocence of a child in this world. Trust me on that."

Karyan, folding his arms, retorted, "Innocence or not, I need to understand what I'm getting into."

Elara, finishing her frog, leaned in with a mischievous smile. "Life's a game, and sometimes you need to play by different rules to win. The fake name is just a tiny piece of the puzzle. As for secrecy, well, that's the spice of adventure."

Karyan, still skeptical, sighed, "I just want to find the sorcerer and get out of here."

Elara, patting his shoulder, reassured him, "And you will, dear. This is just a detour. Now, go pack. The person helping you on the boat will have more details. Just trust them, and you'll see, everything will fall into place."

Karyan, nodding, there was nothing else for him to say, especially after their conversation last night.

He muttered to himself, "Trust in secrecy and a fake name. What a strange way to escape."

At dawn, Karyan made his way to the river, the cool air felt warm to him.

As he approached, a tall figure in a dark red cloak emerged, prompting him to clutch the fake passport nervously.

The man, towering over Karyan, glanced at the fake document and then at him. "I see," he stated.

Karyan, unsure, just waited for the man to hand over the passport.

The man scrutinized him, his eyes narrowing as if assessing more than just the information on the document. After a long pause, he finally nodded.

"Follow me," the man instructed, leading the way to the waiting boat. The river's gentle whispers accompanied him as he looked at the horizon.

As they boarded the boat, the man spoke cryptically, "Your path is woven with threads of fate, young one. The sorcerer awaits, but your journey will be very long."

Karyan, still grappling with the surroundings, simply nodded.

The boat set sail into the unknown, the river reflecting the hues of dawn. The man in the red cloak remained like his silent guardian.

"Why are you helping me? You know who I am."

"Yes…yes, I do," the man replied with a calm tone.

"So why are you helping me? Haven't you heard that I'm a threat?"

"A threat or not, one day, you helped my son to heal…" the man looked at Karyan, "and I will forever see you as someone kind."

Karyan furrowed his eyebrows a little.

"Even if you deny it, you will forever remain as a good person in my eyes."

Without saying anything, Karyan just walked to the edge of the boat; for the last five years, he was barely treated nicely or with respect.

For a moment, he thought that even snakes abandoned him, "but not anymore…I will get the spirit before Mateo does." He looked at the bright blue sea.

"Ahahaha! Ahahaha!" Mateo yelled as he looked at the spell he just created.

"I can't believe it…more…more few lives and I will control the earth element!"

"Sir, I think you should tone it down a little bit," a man with dark blue hair spoke from behind.

"I've worked so hard to reach this level; I will not let them take it away from me."

"As 'working hard' you're declaring as killing people?"

Mateo's eyes flared, "be careful," he spoke in a low tone, "don't forget, the hand that feeds you will be the hand that slaps you later."

Mateo looked at him and then glanced at his back, where a cold, dark shadow lay on his shoulders.

"And your friend too," Mateo added.
