The shock and horror on Yvonne's face were felt as her eyes widened, fixating on her grandfather. Her trembling hands covered her mouth as if to restrain a scream that threatened to escape.
She walked slowly to her grandfather and bent down.
Her grandfather barely opened his eyes when he saw Yvonne. He smiles at her.
"Let me call the ambulance."
As she held her phone, her hand was trembling so hard to the point that she couldn't hold it very well.
Her grandfather slowly held Yvonne's hand.
"Don't call. I want to talk to you," he uttered, his voice very weak.
Her grandfather was bleeding and didn't have the strength to talk. He has to force himself to talk.
He thought he would never see her again, but he was very glad to see her before he go.
"Grandpa, don't talk. Let me call the ambulance," she pleaded as she gently removed his hands.
"Don't cry and be strong."
How can he tell her to be strong when everyone she loved died?
"Grandpa, who did this to you?"
He smiles at her with his teeth showing.
Yvonne cannot imagine why he will be smiling. Tears came rolling down her cheeks, and her tears dripped at her grandfather's hands.
"It doesn't matter who did this, but..." he coughs.
He was coughing so hard that Yvonne got scared and held his hand.
"Ja...vier." His hands slipped off of Yvonne's hands.
Yvonne called her grandfather's name but got no response. She burst into tears.
She cried for at least fifteen minutes before she fainted. When she almost fell down, someone caught her.
Three hours later, Yvonne woke up and found herself in the hospital. She was shocked, and she did not know how she got there.
She looked at her side and saw Javier sitting on the chair, sleeping.
She thought everything was a dream. How can she lose two people who are dear to her? Just thinking about it makes Yvonne cry again.
He was always there for her..
[Flashback]
"Your sorry does not mean anything to me." Her father released his grip on her.
The maids were all staring at each other and couldn't believe a father could be so cruel to his own daughter, but what do they expect when he does the same thing to his late wife?
Her father calls a maid.
"Take this bitch to the usual room and don't give her food for a week," he pointed at her.
The maids were all shocked. Does he want to kill her?
The maid said okay and went to help young Yvonne up. As she was taking her, Yvonne's grandfather walked in with Faith.
Young Yvonne runs to hide behind her grandfather.
"Father, why are you here?"
"You don't want me to be here so you can abuse your daughter MORE?" he yelled, as she pointed to him.
"She killed her mother,"
"Don't act as if you don't know why your wife decides to commit suicide," he uttered. "I am taking these girls away from you. From now on, they are not your daughters"
Yvonne's father laughed.
[Flashback ends]
Yvonne stared at him and remembered the last words her father said. Is he the shadow I saw?
She sits up and is examining his figure.
As soon as Javier opened his eyes, she removed her eyes from him.
"You are awake?"
"No, I am not. I am a spirit," she hissed at him.
He sat at the edge of the bed and brought his face close to her. Yvonne could feel his breath.
"Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?"
Just as expected, he knew. How could he not know when they were in the hospital?
"Do you deserve to know?"
He stared intensely at her lips. Yvonne was feeling quite uncomfortable, so she pushed him away.
"So, who deserves to know? I am the father of the child, or am I not?"
Yvonne didn't say anything, and she wished he would think like that so she could get a divorce from him.
She used her leg to push him away from the bed. She lay down, and Javier turned on the television.
When the television was turned on, a news channel came on talking about the death of her grandfather.
Yvonne stood up as she watched it. Javier was going to remove the channel, but Yvonne stopped him.
How could it be in the news now? Who called the news people?
She was expecting it to be in the news, but not soon. Tears flowed from her eyes.
Javier turned off the TV the moment he saw her tears.
"Who brought me here?" she asked, as she realized she had never asked before.
She was too occupied with irrelevant things.
"I was the one,"
Yvonne's eyes widened in shock, and she did not understand what he was doing there.
"Why were you there?" she questioned.
"You were walking, and you fainted on the road, so I took you to the hospital."
A baffled expression crossed Yvonne's face. Walking? Wasn't she with her grandfather? Everywhere became vague as she wrestled with the fragments of her memory.
Feeling a sudden ache in her head, Yvonne instinctively touched her forehead. Javier, sensing her discomfort, took a seat on the edge of the bed. Unexpectedly, he hugged her, catching her off guard. She attempted to push him away, but he did not budge.
"I will talk to your father to set up the burial next week."
"Why so early?"
He let go of the embrace.
"I think it is better to do it early, and I am certain your grandfather wants that." he uttered.
What does he know about what her grandfather wants? Yvonne decides to do what he suggests, but she keeps thinking about the shadow, how her grandfather got murdered, and if Javier is the one who killed him.
A week later, they were at the burial site. Yvonne was nervous about meeting her dad for the first time in a long while.
When her father arrived, he looked at her for a minute then ignored her. He pays his respects to his father.
Yvonne was in a crying mess, and Helen was comforting her.
Two days after the burial, Yvonne and Javier were in the car waiting to go inside her father's house.
Her phone beeped, and it was a message from a strange person. The person sent a video of Javier piercing her grandfather's dead heart.
She covered her mouth, and her hand was trembling.
"What happened?" Javier asked as he saw her facial expression.
She looked at him and did not say anything.
As Yvonne opens the car door, Javier also follows. He stopped her by the arm.
"What's going on?"
"Let's enter inside. There are people waiting for us."
She removed his hands and got inside. When she got there, her father, her stepmother, and her extended family were there.
There was also a lawyer who was ready to read the will. She sat across from her dad.
"It seems like everyone is here," he said. "This is the will of Mr. Logan, and I hope everyone will respect it."
He opened the will and read it.
"I give my entire asset, even the company and everything that belongs to me, to Javier Riley."
Yvonne's eyes widened.
How could it be?
