"Like... seriously? Gerard... did that? That guy?"
Leslie continued staring at Mimo, disbelief glinting in her eyes. Her mind replayed its words, reminding her of her encounter with Gerard around two months ago.
The man looked so unsightly as he ran away in fright, claiming he was haunted by the deceased Old Master Xu's ghost.
"I know that... he's a cannon fodder for this... story but, how could... he do something like... that? Wasn't he afraid... of Calix or others... finding out about it?"
Leslie admitted that cannon fodders were typically used to enhance the main characters' halos, showing the latter's credibility compared to the weaklings. This was a common setting in a story.
Still, Leslie couldn't help but wonder how could Gerard be so foolish.
Frowning, Leslie let out a sigh as a thought crossed her mind.
'He wanted to topple Calix. He thought Calix was lying about Calliope.'
Trivia! Gerard investigated Calliope's DNA was my plan in the early draft. Initially, Leslie and Calix would adopt Calliope. They told everyone she was their biological child. Gerard didn't believe that and secretly checked Calliope's DNA.
When it was revealed, both Leslie and Calix would be shocked. Leslie; because she didn't expect Calix to be involved with Charlene in the original storyline. As for Calix, because he didn't think Leslie (Charlene) was the woman from that night.
But, I decided against using it. I was conflicted before reaching the decision. If you remember when Calix began suspecting Calliope's identity, I mentioned how perceptive he was.
A leader like him should be observant and cautious. Even though Calix didn't want to go behind Leslie's back, he had to know the truth because of his own circumstances.
Making him not suspect anything at all for shock values didn't seem right to me. It'd make him a stupid ML in my opinion and I don't ever wanna ruin his image to the readers.
What do you guys think?
