Chapter - 7: The True God of Krypton
-----------
I closed the history book that I had been holding and set it down on the bed next to me. I did my best to avoid looking out the nearby window; the thought of being in a strange, new world made me uneasy.
I had just left the uncertainty of my small boat behind, and I had already had enough of the unpredictability of this world and of any scientist who might try to experiment on my new body for quite some time.
So, instead, I looked up at the ceiling as I let myself fall back onto the double bed. The room I was in was rather bare, but that was fine by me. The bed was almost too comfortable, though.
Just as I noticed that I was about to fall asleep, I heard a knock on the door and sat up quickly. "Huh? Come in," I called out, and the high-tech door slid open, revealing a familiar figure.
My heart sped up, ignited by the thrill of battle, as a wave of hatred surged through my body for an instant when I recognized who was standing before me. However, I stopped myself, doing my best to maintain control.
PowerGirl.
I hadn't expected her, but her presence was somehow reassuring. I knew her, I knew what to expect from her, even though the situation was far from easy for anyone involved.
She entered the room, her imposing figure and large boobs seemed to fill the space. Honestly, I could not appreciate her appearance as much as I would have liked, for the only thing on my mind was the thought of fighting her again.
PowerGirl gave me a thoughtful look, her arms crossed over her chest, and her eyebrows furrowed. She looked ready to tell me it was time to talk about something important, something I probably didn't want to hear.
PowerGirl paused with a smile that betrayed a certain lightness. "I see the pants I gave you fit well," she said in a playful tone. "At least you won't be traumatizing any girls with what you've got between your legs."
The joke made me smile and helped me relax a bit, even though the seriousness of the situation was still palpable. PowerGirl was a very important hero in this world, and her appearance was never a sign of peace.
"It's time to go," she said firmly, "The League wants to talk to you," not giving me many options. It was time to face the most powerful figures in this world, and I knew I couldn't back out.
"Oh. I thought they were going to keep me here forever, or maybe send me to another dimension," I replied sarcastically, trying to mask the tension I felt inside.
"Of course not," she quickly responded, almost as if to dispel that thought from my mind. "You haven't harmed anyone, and many members understand that having great power isn't easy to handle."
Her words calmed me a bit as I followed her out of the room. PowerGirl was a hero of great renown, and even though she was a bit shorter than me, her presence was imposing. I couldn't help but imagine what I was about to face.
As we walked through the corridors, I noticed the assistants in dull blue uniforms stepping aside as we passed, casting reverent glances at PowerGirl and suspicious looks at me. It seemed I already had a reputation, and I wasn't sure how to feel about that.
Fortunately, it seemed we had arrived, and I stopped just in time to avoid bumping into PowerGirl's back as she came to a halt in front of a large set of double doors with the letters "JL" prominently displayed at the center.
When the doors opened before me, revealing a well-lit interior dominated by a long table that stretched the length of the room, I felt a mix of emotions. The walls were adorned with all sorts of trophies and insignias, draped with vivid tapestries of valor and courage, and statues of victorious heroes that made my stomach churn.
But none of that mattered to me. My eyes were fixed on the dozen or so figures seated around the long table that occupied the entire room.
I knew each of them, and each one stared at me with varying degrees of suspicion and judgment. And, for some strange reason, this made me feel almost comfortable.
A man and a woman sat side by side, with spiked maces ready for use at their sides and their faces hidden behind hawk-like beak masks, exuding an aura of sternness and impenetrability.
Thanagarians: Hawkman and Hawkwoman.
A man clad in armor that seemed to be forged from fish scales, leaning on a gleaming golden trident—Aquaman himself. I felt somewhat honored to be considered important enough to drag the Lord of Atlantis out of the ocean.
Which, honestly, I could have done without, considering how insignificant he seemed...
Then there was Martian Manhunter, silent and cold as ever, his ruby eyes revealing nothing, which made me uneasy since I couldn't grasp what was going on in his mind.
Next to him was John Stewart, or Green Lantern, with his power ring glowing green. His gaze was focused, his eyes locked on me, clearly on guard and ready to act at the first sign of trouble.
To his left stood Dr. Fate, with his golden helmet. He acknowledged me with a slight nod, a gesture I wasn't sure how to interpret—whether it was favorable or not, given that someone like him was certainly not easy to read.
The Flash, wrapped in his iconic red suit, moved so quickly that only I could follow his movements, which for anyone else would have been completely invisible.
Not far away, Green Arrow stood still, his piercing gaze scanning the surroundings, with his bow close at hand, ready to react to even the slightest move—a reaction I could easily expect from someone like him.
Beside him, Black Canary maintained a proud and determined posture, ready to intervene at the slightest signal. Together, their presence exuded a confidence that made it clear why they were so captivating.
Then there was Wonder Woman, her features rigid as if carved from marble, truly resembling a goddess. It didn't surprise me that, in the various comics I'd read in my life, some would seek a relationship with her.
But as soon as my eyes met Superman's, I felt an abrupt shiver run through me. Memories that didn't belong to me flashed through my mind, and an indescribable hatred surged through my body. Fortunately, I was getting used to it and managed to calm myself.
Likewise, Superman looked at me with an intensity that seemed to dig deep into me, beyond the surface, beyond my appearance. I could feel that behind that gaze, he understood that we had already met before.
But none of them commanded my attention quite like the man seated at the head of the table. His face was partially hidden by a hood, and his eyes, cold and sharp as ice, observed me without blinking.
Batman. The Dark Knight himself...
"Thank you for bringing him," he said, the slightest undercurrent of irritation breaking through his otherwise dispassionate facade. "Please take a seat so we can get started."
PowerGirl gestured to an empty chair near the center of the table, and I sat down, doing my best to maintain a calm exterior. I knew that any sign of nervousness would be noticed and likely interpreted as weakness.
A heavy silence settled over the room as everyone continued to stare at me, as if waiting for me to speak first, but I had no intention of doing so until I knew their intentions.
Wonder Woman, seated next to Batman, cleared her throat, and all eyes shifted to her. "Typhon," she began, with some difficulty—it seemed she didn't particularly like my new name, "You're here because we need to discuss your current situation and your... origins."
My heart quickened slightly, but I did my best to keep control of my Evil Ki, not wanting it to leak out accidentally and put me on their bad side before the discussion even started.
I knew this moment would come, but that didn't make it any easier to face. "I understand," I replied in a neutral tone, trying to mask any emotion.
Martian Manhunter was the next to speak, his voice steady but not hostile. "We've all seen the video," he said, evidently referring to some recording of me, "And we understand that you were created under circumstances... beyond your control."
"But we also have to consider the danger you represent," Batman interjected, his voice as sharp and merciless as a blade. "You were created as a weapon, and we've seen what can happen when such a force goes unchecked."
A wave of frustration surged within me. I knew convincing them wouldn't be easy, but I also couldn't allow them to judge me solely based on my existence.
"I didn't choose to be what I am," I said, striving to keep my tone calm. "I was created by human greed to be nothing more than a weapon, but as usual, they bit off more than they could chew. But that doesn't mean I want to be a threat to anyone."
"We understand your situation, Typhon," Superman said, trying to ease the tension. "But we also have to make sure you don't become a danger to this world or any other."
Aquaman, who had been silent until now, spoke up with a deep, authoritative voice. "We're not judging you solely for what you are, but for what you could become. We've seen the power you wield, even if unintentionally, it can lead to devastating consequences."
I realized that, despite their caution, there was genuine concern in their words. They weren't here just to condemn me, but to determine if I could be something more than the threat they feared.
But there was also an awareness that if I didn't meet their expectations, they would take drastic measures. "I was less than a day out of my growth tube, and someone hit me without provocation. Not many ways to respond with that much life experience."
Batman promptly replied, without batting an eye. "The situation before PowerGirl's arrival was unpleasant, and we do not blame you and for what happened, as our protégés acted rashly."
I nodded, cutting him off. "I want a chance to prove that I can be more than what I was created for," I said, looking each of them in the eyes, one by one. "I know it won't be easy to earn your trust, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that."
Another silence fell over the room, but this time it felt less hostile, more contemplative. Batman continued to scrutinize me with those icy eyes, but it seemed he was weighing my words. In the end, it was Superman who broke the silence.
"We'll give you this chance, Typhon," he said with a determination that struck me. "But understand, the world you live in now is fragile, and we can't afford any mistakes. A single misstep could cost hundreds of lives."
"I know, which is why I didn't finish my battle with PowerGirl," I said, glancing at her. She was watching me closely. "Even though my hatred for Kryptonians is the greatest there is."
Batman raised an eyebrow at my response. "What exactly do you mean by that?" he asked, glancing at Superman for clarification, but his ally didn't seem to be paying much attention.
Instead, Superman stood firm in his opposition, holding his face as if recalling something deeply traumatic, the very day he had learned that he wasn't invincible—his own death.
"Superman!" Wonder Woman called out sharply, noticing her companion's distracted and confused expression.
Hearing his name, he was jolted from his thoughts, and he saw the concerned looks from every member of the Justice League, revealing how much they cared for him.
Superman quickly shook his head, his gaze hardening.
"Is there something troubling you that much?" Wonder Woman asked, her voice laced with clear concern.
"Yes, Superman, why are you so much more nervous than usual? Have you finally realized it? Isn't that right?" I couldn't help but say, noticing that we now had the attention of everyone in the room.
After a few breaths, with great reluctance, the Man of Steel began to speak in a voice that was barely more than a whisper. "If you recall, a long time ago we faced a being that defeated each of us with overwhelming power... And with a hatred that knew no end," Superman said, visibly struggling to recall that fateful day.
"Doomsday." The air in the room turned cold as he uttered the name of the worst calamity they had ever faced, perhaps even surpassing the universe's ruler, Darkseid, in my opinion.
The name seemed to freeze the air in the room. I heard a slight murmur among the League members, and my gaze returned to Superman, who was staring at me, scrutinizing every inch of me.
Especially Batman, who was watching me with clear intensity, clearly deep in thought.
"Typhon, you—" Superman began, but the words caught in his throat, as if he were trying to organize his thoughts before speaking further.
But unfortunately for him, I was growing tired of this situation. "Yes, part of my DNA is composed of his," I said calmly. "After all, they were trying to create the strongest creature in the entire universe."
My words plunged the room into complete silence, so profound that even the faintest noise seemed amplified. This didn't particularly surprise me, given the gravity of the revelation.
Superman looked at me with an expression betraying a mix of disbelief and concern. "So you would be his clone?" he asked, his voice low and measured but laden with intense focus.
"Not exactly..." I replied, trying to choose my words carefully.
His gaze grew even more intense. "What do you mean? Be clearer," he insisted, his voice slightly tense.
I sighed, knowing that the truth would be difficult to accept. "Yes, you could say that I am the true Doomsday: I have all his memories, his awareness. But I am not a cold machine created solely to kill," I explained, letting my words settle heavily in the air.
The room remained suspended in an almost surreal silence, every member of the Justice League motionless, as if they were absorbing the weight of what I had just revealed.
Eventually, it was PowerGirl who broke the silence. 'That's why, during our fight, I sensed so much hatred coming from you, was Doomsday's DNA"
"Yes, the part of Doomsday that lives in me hates all Kryptonians, not just you as individuals, but every form of life that inhabited Krypton became a target of his hatred, given that in his early years, he was repeatedly killed by the creatures that inhabited that world."
Superman listened intently, his expression growing darker as I continued. "You know, the ancient Kryptonians of that era were very primitive. Their evolution was only possible thanks to Doomsday, who exterminated most of the apex predators on the planet. Without him, the Kryptonians would never have emerged from the underground caves where they lived to avoid the dangers of the surface."
Superman's expression showed a growing understanding but also a subtle disturbance. "So, you're saying that Doomsday is responsible for our evolution?"
I nodded. "Exactly. Originally, he was a primitive Kryptonian, a victim of brutal experiments. Some of his early deaths were caused by the atmosphere and radiation on Krypton, compared to the Kryptonians of that time who lived in the depths of the caves, never exposed to the surface. When Doomsday began exterminating apex predators on the surface, he paved the way for the Kryptonians to emerge and gradually adapt to those deadly conditions."
Superman reflected on what I was saying, his mind likely crowded with new perspectives on his people's history. "So this means that, while Doomsday was forcibly evolving through experiments, the Kryptonians were slowly adapting, emerging from their lairs only when the dangers had been eliminated. And in that process, they inherited some of the survival abilities that Doomsday had developed."
"Exactly," I confirmed. "The abilities Doomsday possesses are present in Kryptonians, but only under a yellow sun. However, Kryptonians also developed unique abilities as a result of their natural evolution, which Doomsday never possessed."
Superman seemed to weigh each word. "So, we are a product of his hatred and, at the same time, of his protection, whether intentional or not."
"Yes," I replied. "It's ironic, don't you think? All Kryptonians owe their existence and evolution to the one who hates them most. Not to
My words seemed to affect both Superman and PowerGirl deeply. He was silent for a long moment, absorbing what I had said. "Since I arrived on this planet," he began slowly, "I, as Power Girl, no longer consider our religion so important, but what you are telling me is incredible.
"Certainly," I interjected. "In the end, if Kryptonians were to worship a god, it would be him. He brought about a true evolution of an entire race with his mere presence."
Superman nodded, his expression revealing a mix of understanding and discomfort with this information. "Honestly, I need time to process everything you've told me and see its validity."
"That's not a problem," I shrugged. "But remember, the difference lies in choices. Doomsday was forced to become what he is, but you Kryptonians chose your path. And now, it's up to us to decide how to manage this legacy. I am not Doomsday, and I won't let his hatred define what I can become."
