Magnitude Tower II

Noir had seen many testimonies from the Disciple-class Resonants after their success in passing their First Ascension or Second Awakening.

Most of them had different scenarios to clear depending on their Resonance.

If it was a Resonant with healing capability, they would have a doctor or healer scenario. The setting was also distinctive. But mostly, they would be in some mundane worlds without supernatural power.

Or, maybe supernatural power existed. But the people of those simulated worlds didn't know about their existence yet.

That said, they couldn't rely on their Resonance in some cases.

For this reason, a basic understanding of one's Resonance relatability was required.

A combat Resonant would likely be required to up their physique and technique. All of them except for mages.

Magic-related Resonance was a bit unique. Unfortunately, mages were very secretive about their scenarios, making it hard to find an example.

Well. The restriction was only applied to Magnitude Tower, though.

As for Noir...

After he accepted the system's confirmation, Noir was sent to his test.

The simulated scenario he got was a city in an industrial era. To be more specific, it was a steampunk world. No magic. But there were some unique inventions here.

In the scenario, he was...

//[Chapter 1 - Aspiring Detective]

"You're Noir Teundre. A young detective assistant who finally becomes an official detective. But it seems no one requires your service.

One day, you accepted the one-and-only commission after a month since you became a detective. But it turns out to be a peculiar request. Nonetheless, you're happy you can finally do your job, and it's your first mission.

Your commissioner requires your service to investigate a suspicious group in Shelton Village."

Objectives:

Reach Shelton Village in one piece (Ongoing)

Noir was a Detective.

'A Detective in a steampunk world? This sounds like an amazing scenario.'

It was good news knowing that was a great scenario. However, Noir couldn't help but feel uneasy about it.

Especially when the objective bluntly told him to reach his destination 'in one piece.'

'Fvck. So, I guess something will happen sooner or later, huh?'

Noir put his hand on the window railing, looking at the view outside the train.

Vast, sprawling prairies stretched out as far as his eyes could see.

'This is so refreshing. How long has it been since I last saw a view like this?'

It was a long time ago. But Noir only saw that through a movie. He had never actually witnessed a view like that in his whole life.

Even in Earthium, something like that had become a rare sight. No matter how far he had gone, it was always a landscape of modern structures. Even the countryside wasn't a countryside anymore.

As Noir closed his eyes, his ears twitched.

From the corridor, Noir heard noises.

'Is it happening now?'

Curious, the passenger who had just sat with him in the compartment looked outside.

"What's going on here?" the passenger said.

Unlike his seatmate, Noir stayed in his seat. He lifted and placed the handy suitcase on his lap, checking on its inside.

After that, he smiled and turned at his seatmate, whose face looked panicked.

The seatmate spotted an unknown group of people walking in the corridor while breaking into every compartment they passed.

"Hey, get out!"

They dragged the passengers forcefully out of their compartments, ordering them to leave everything behind, and gathered them in the front carriage.

At that point, the train started slowing down and eventually stopped.

Looked like it was a terrorist attack,

Noticing Noir's seatmate, one of the terrorists approached him with a bronze-colored gun in his hand.

"Hey, you! You've seen what we're going to do here, right? Now get out and go."

The seatmate obeyed because of the fear of a gun put against his head.

The terrorist looked inside the compartment of that man but didn't find anyone else. So, he went for the next one.

Noir was supposed to be there, but luckily, he had escaped to the train roof.

"Uwah... this is troublesome."

***

The second and third cars were where the terrorists held the hostages together.

As the hostages were shivering in fear after witnessing the murder of one of them who tried to fight back, the terrorists talked among themselves with laughs and snort.

Meanwhile, the situation in the engine was less tense because the train operator was killed. And no one else was there except two terrorist men who talked to someone through a device.

A moment later, they returned to the second and third cars and gave out the order to the others to kill everyone and take everything.

Now, it's not a terrorist attack but a plunder.

The situation escalated quickly.

As soon as the order was given, they began shooting at the hostages.

Before it could become any worse, a clacking sound resounded in the third carriage.

Looking at the center, they spotted a bronze ball with an intricate design beeping rapidly.

Burst!

Suddenly, ash smoke filled the wagon, causing the hostages and plunderers to cough and close their eyes.

It was not an ordinary gas smoke. But one that irritated eyes.

And if someone inhaled too much of it...

"Cough! Cough! What the hell is going..."

...they would lose consciousness.

Thwack! Hack! Guh!

Inside the smoke, Noir ended all the unconscious plunderers' lives.

All the hostages were basically down. But some plunderers stayed conscious. However, they were not in their best states, making it easier for Noir to take them down in the smoke.

Noticing something wrong with the third wagon, the plunderers in the second wagon tried to check on them.

As they were about to open the door to the third wagon, Noir threw another ball into the second wagon as hard as he could.

It hit the person in the very front and dropped to the floor.

When it beeped, a yell resounded in the carriage.

"Take cover!!"

The plunderers thought it was a grenade, but it was actually another smoke bomb.

At this point, the situation was pretty much the same as what happened in the third wagon.

Noir, even without his Azure Lightning, was moving like a cheetah. He seamlessly took all the plunderers' lives with a baton that could generate heat.

The heat's intensity was so dense and hot that it could melt human skin with just a slight touch.

When all the plunderers died, Noir looked at the baton in his hand and wondered,

'What kind of detective is bringing combat equipment in his suitcase?!'

Back then, when Noir checked the suitcase, he found many useful tools inside, as if the person he played a role in was expecting the plunderers.

Although he doubted this guy's credibility as a detective, Noir was glad he found those tools.

Three smoke bombs, a mask plate, a bronze gun, a heat baton, anti-heat gloves, and vision goggles.

'Haha. This test will be easier than I thought.'
