章 6: Shocking the ministry

---November 16 1987---

---Diagon Alley, Declan's shop---

"Haha you are really a genius, boy!" shouted Declan excitedly as he observed the steel pillar full of runes "With this we can conquer the whole market! Let's go register it quickly!" he added, as he put the pillar in the dimensional bag, and walked towards the door.

Shane looked at the bag thinking about the theories about the traceless stretching charm. Unfortunately he couldn't test them beacause of his age.

'Next year, after my new business goes into full swing, I will get myself a wand.' he decided.

After Emily left for school, he moved to Declan again. Shane changed his approach, and convinced Declan, it would be better to first create a tool that can create mirrors by itself.

After Declan heard the idea he immediately decided it was a better way to develop, and after more than half month of tireless work, they developed a machine , that could craft the mirrors instead of them.

Although the machine couldn't compare with Declan, or even Shane in accuracy, it was still not even half as good.

After a lot of corrections, they decided that the mirrors they create, will be marked as premium ones, and they will be more expensive.

The cheaper ones will have much wider market though. Even if it's said that there are much more muggles than wizards, you can still sell almost 3000 copies just in Great Britain, not even mentioning 5 milion wizards in the whole world.

Because of the situation they decided not to upgrade the machine, but just create more of them.

After creating ten of them with daily output of twenty mirrors each, they started creating the communication station.

Just the basic framework took them two weeks, and then they got stuck with a much bigger problem.

Shane originally wanted to create a name system, where you just need to call somebody's name to call them.

This however proved to be a big problem, so Shane decided to instead copy the system that phones used in his previous life.

Creating a system using seven digit combinations was thankfuly much easier.

After resolving this problem, it still took them six and a half weeks to restructure it, correct it, and fix all of the mistakes, that appeared through the process.

Although the pillar was not large, it's insides were hollow, and cast with a traceless streetching spell. The runes outside were just to keep the spell working and send the signals in and out of the pillar.

With the finished product finally ready, Declan, who was muggleborn, took Shane to the ministry's entrance in London.

"You know, the ministry's workers have to enter by flushing themselves in the toilets" he whispered to Shane, barely stifling his laugh "Fortunately the visitors' entrance is much better" he said pointing at the phone booth.

As Declan chose 6-2-4-4-2 on the phone, the whole booth started slowly falling.

Afterwards they descended in the middle of busy corridor with wizards scurrying all around them.

As they left the booth, they walked down towards the huge hall.

Halfway down the hall was a fountain.

A group of beautiful golden statues, stood in the middle of a circular pool.

Tallest of them all was a wizard with his wand pointing straight up in the air.

Around him were a beautiful witch, a centaur, a goblin, and a house-elf.

The creatures were all looking in awe up at the witch and wizard.

Jets of water were flying from the wands of the duo, the centaur's arrow, the goblin's hat, and both of the house-elf's ears.

Declan led Shane around the fountain, behind which were beautifully designed elevators' entrances.

On the side near the wall, there was a Desk with a sign above it 'Security desk'.

"People have to give their wands to Ernie over there" sai Declan pointing at the sign."Hello Ernie!" he shouted to a jovial looking middle-aged man reading a newspaper.

Ernie looked up, and standing up responded "Declan, long time no see. Why didn't you visit me" laughed the man in a jovial manner similar to his bearing "Did you finally find your conscience, and came to visit your old friend?"

"Haha, today I came with the boy to register his invention" he said pointing at Shane "Let me tell you, this boy is a genius like no other"

Ernie looked down on the quite handsome, but more cute boy in front of him.

"Boy, you must be great if the old stuck up Dec is praising you like that" then he added in a whisper "You know, in his younger days he regarded everyone else as trash, but as his gir-"

"Enough of those stories Ernest!!!" shouted Declan red on his face "Do you want me to tell your daughter about the bottle you shove-"

"Okay, okay, I give up" quickly interrupted him the other man "And you know Ernest is not my name"

"So, boy" he said turning towards Shane "I wouldn't ask you for the wand, but rules are rules so..."

"He doesn't have the wand yet" said Declan looking at his old friend as if he looked at a mentally retarted person.

"Oh, right" said the man slapping himself on the forehead "I really don't get such young visitors often, and habit is a habit after all"

"Go on to the patent office on the third floor" he said , and then added looking at Declan "And come visit us soon, Alice has been complaining about not seeing you for such a long time."

"Will do" answered Declan as they entered the lift crowded with people "Third level" said Declan to the attendant, and the lift started moving upwards.

When they arrived after a few stops, after walking for some time through an elaborately decorated corridor, they arrived in front of a golden door.

Department of Alchemical and Runic Inventions and Innovations - said the sign on the side.

After Declan knocked on the door, from the inside of the office came an aged voice.

"Please enter!" said an old man about 80 years old sitting at the desk without raising his eyes.

"It's me professor!" called out Declan with a happy smile, making the man raise his head and look at him, pushing his glasses down the nose.

"Oh, it's you boy" said professor with a slight smile "What brings you here today? Did you upgrade something again?"

"No professor Pototchek, I brought today a genius boy here!" said Declan, and started explaining how they together created new communication method, basing on Shane's idea.

At the end of the story, the previously calm professor almost fell over the desk "Quickly! What are you waiting for?! Show it to me!!" he shouted excitedly.

Declan opened his dimensional bag, and pulled out the steel pilllar.

"Ah, yes, yes very elaborate. Show me the inside of this miracle!!!" he shouted after deciphering the outside runes.

After Declan opened the top, he jumped in with lightness unexpected, from such an old man.

After a few seconds Declan and Shane, who didn't want to slow down the inspection, heard shouts of awe.

Soon a red faced wizard came out in disheveled robes, not at all resembling the old professor Pototchek.

"Really a world-changing invention!" he said excitedly "Show me the other part that can match with this, and we can complete all formalities" he added walking to his desk in energetic steps

He took out a few forms, that Shane recognized as patent ownership documents, and put it in front of them "One of you has to fill it" he said staring at them intently.

"Go on boy!" chuckled Declan, patting Shane's arm "The idea came from you, and I'm happy bragging about helping to create this, and getting some profit"

Shane knew that Declan said that just to convince him, after all as one of the best alchemy masters he didn't lack money at all.

It's also not like he had a lot of things to spend on in the entertainment lacking wizarding world, other than experiments which aren't too budget damaging for the only alchemy Master in London.

After Shane finished signing all of the necessary places, he activated his Legilimency, trying to check trustworthiness of the old man.

'Oh yes, centaur's dick much bigger than I imagined' was the first thing he heard before quickly adjusting the range of his abilities.

'Ah, such a beautiful runic structure' he heard the voice of a child, eerily resembling the voice of the old professor Pototchek 'How much I would love to rub myself on this masterpiece. Maybe I can argue that ministry is the centre of the London's Wizarding World, and make them place it here. I could sneak to it ever-'

'Well, it's a work related disease' he diagnosed the old man quickly, turning of his ability 'I've heard of worse things like necrophiliacs, or some teachers' he lightly dismissed what he heard.

"Oh, you finished already Shane boy" said professor majesticaly straigtening his back "You know, about the placement of this station..."

"Unfortunately, we need to have it at the shop to register the mirrors" quickly dismissed him Declan, looking at his professor weirded out.

He heard previously, about his professors weird hobby, but he could never be sure "so, we will take our leave" he added while packing up the pillar and retreating.

"I'll come and help you with your shop!" resounded behind them voice of the old professor, as the went into the lift.

When they came down Ernie invited Declan and this time also Shane to his house next week, with the other party agreeing.

As they went back to the muggle London, Declan started talking about his grand business plans.

He only quieted down, when they entered The Leaky Cauldron and Declan didn't want to talk about his great buiness plan.

As they went back into the shop, Shane suddenly heard a quiet voice inside his mind.

'Ha, I'm sure I can get some great news again from this fat leprechaun, after he came back from the ministry'

Thank you Tenebris_Necros for helping me correct the mistake.

I'm sorry about this chapter, look: Author's Thought's Post Scriptum.

I wanted to say something more, but I'm tired and forgot.

I'm today here in author's thought to ask an existential question...

I wonder whether I should change my style of writing? I mean I often read those books/novels that have dialogues with one sentence in each paragraph:

---

"Hello Joe"

Martin smiled at his friend.

"Hello to you too Martin"

Smiled back Joe.

---

So the question is, should I write it like I write rn, or change to a lighter style (look above)? Comment it and let me know. I am very unsure about my writing style, so come up with suggestions.

-Your friendly neighborhood author.

P.S Sorry for the short chapter and lowered quality, but I got sick yesterday, and today I cut my finger with my pen and bled all over my notebook...
