I sighed desperate to devise a plan to reach Juan. I wasn't sure how to break the spell, whether it required convincing him to come with me or simply offering him comfort and reassurance. Time was slipping away, and I feared I wouldn't have enough of it to come up with a plan. Sneaking past everyone to reach Juan became my sole focus.

Sneaking up the stairs seemed like my best bet, so I scanned the room for an opportunity. Everyone was engrossed in conversation, including Armando. Seizing the opportunity, I mustered a fake smile and began to inch my way towards the staircase. With each step, my heart pounded in my chest, my nerves on edge.

Step by step, I ascended, my eyes fixed on the doorway little Juan had entered through.
