章 13: Going soft
After her father had passed away, his will had mysteriously vanished. No one knew where it was, and the suspense surrounding it had never ceased. Yet, seeing her name boldly written on these documents was a shock.
She could tell they had been handled roughly, which suggested someone else had already discovered them. The suspense built as Kayla knew there was a lot more to unravel.
For now, Kayla decided to keep the will a secret. She concealed it in a safe place where no one would suspect it.
She quickly made her way out of the room after ensuring everything was intact. She pushed the peacock back and the secret passage closed. With the documents with her, she made her way back to her room where she hid the documents in a place no one would suspect.
***The next day: The King's Company***
Leon who os richly dressed wearing a tailored black suit, a jacket that hugs his body, a crisp white shirt, a silk white tie, a luxurious watch and black leather shoes.
He walked to the board meeting room excluding a majestic aura that seemed to attract all his female workers like flies.
The board members escorted Leon to the meeting.
"Wow, the boss is so handsome, if only I could have him for myself," A female employee said as she seductively licked her lips.
"You are so greedy, I don't mind having him for only one night" " another female staff said as she hit the other gently with her elbow.
Leon who was the subject of their discussion could hear all that they were saying as if it was right at his ear they were talking. He is used to this kind of thing and he just moved forward towards the board room.
Sitting in the CEO chair, Leon scanned the room sending shivers down everyone's spine.
"Begin" Leon said and a middle-aged man walked to the board giving details of the company assigned to him. He left no stone unturned as he talked about the increase in business by ten per cent in hopes of getting Leon's acknowledgement but Leon just gave a slight nod and went back to his phone after he finished his presentation.
This left the man unsatisfied but there was nothing he could do except go back to his seat.
Other people also gave their speech and the result was the same. They only made their business increase by either ten or fifteen per cent and as always the same nod follows.
The next person was a woman, she walked with confidence to the board before starting. At the end of her speech, she boasted about the 30 per cent increase in business.
"Lucky her," The middle ages man who was the first to give details about the company given to him to manage said inwardly as he scoffed. Jealousy and envy eat him deeply.
All this was seen through the corner of Leon's eyes but he said nothing.
They all wonder what could the hoss be doing that is more important than the ongoing meeting but they all kept it to themselves for fear of angering him.
"Are we done?" Leon asked when no one else stood up.
All eyes turned to a young man in the meeting who was drench in sweat.
"Do you need help standing up?" Leon asked with murderous gaze directed at the young man making him shiver.
"No....No boss" The man stutter as he got up his legs quivering as he walked to the stage.
Everyone could have guessed the problem, it clear that stock for him decreased and he is scared to give details for fear of his early death.
"Good...Good morning" He greeted as he wiped the sweat the piled up on his forehead with his sleeves.
"Unlike all of you, my assigned company declined at the rate of..... 30 percent," He said as he got down on his knees.
Leon removed his gaze from the phone as he looked at the man on his knees.
None of the other board members said a thing for fear of getting themselves in trouble. They look at the man with pitiful eyes. He was a new member who just joined two years ago. At last year's confer,ence he managed to raise business by ten per cent and now, business declined by thirty, surely he won't get away easily. They could already predict his faith.
"Get up," Leon said in a cold voice.
"Please let me remain this way" He begged.
"Are you deaf?" Leon asked.
The man stood up as he walked towards Leon. The tension in the room increases at a rapid pace as they wonder what Leon would do to him for his sins.
As he walked towards Leon his heart pounded at a fast pace that seemed to fly out of his chest.
Leon stood up and placed his hand on his shoulder making the man tremble from within.
"This is your last warning, if you ever bring news of the company declining, you will face what is worse than death" Leon said.
Also as if he have seen a saviour his body shoo. "That you sir, I promise to do more than my capacity to repay your kindness" He said as he bowed his head hitting the ground continuously.
The board members in the meeting were shocked. "What just happened?" was the question lingering in their minds.
Leon who is known for his ruthlessness when it comes to business is letting him go scot-free. It was like a dream to all, Leon who is regarded as a demon is now acting nice. This came as a surprise to them and shock could be seen written on their faces.
"The meeting is over you can all leave" Leon said.
"Yes sir," They all said in unison as they stood up and left leaving Leon alone in the board room.
"What did I just do? Leon asked himself. For some unknown reason, he did not feel angry at the poor man.
"Am I going soft because of her?" Leon asked himself as he looked at the girl in the picture.
It was the picture of the sleeping Kayla. Leon took her picture without her knowing and has been staring at it all through the meeting.
The knock on the door interrupted him. "Come in" Leon said, without the need for him to show his face Leon knew who the person was through the bond between alpha and beta and also through his scent. It was none other than Mark bringing a bunch of files.
