章 4: Cooperation with the Alchemists of Lys

Involving the alchemists of Lys was Victor's idea to start with. First, involving the producers of the deadliest poisons of either Westeros or Essos into your circle of interests seemed smart. The alchemists of Lys probably value your life a lot more if you constantly send them benefits and as such would either not sell poison to your enemies or at least give you notice if they decide to do so.

But that was not Victors only concern regarding the alchemists of Lys. As a former chemist Victor was very familiar with many pharmaceuticals and their components as well as the extraction process. But Victor was in a completely new world. He had no idea if he could find similar plants or other components like in his previous life. The production of medicine or drugs would have to rely on the knowledge of the world of Ice and Fire. And where to better learn about this information than with the alchemists of Lys.

Victor's grandfather offered the alchemists of Lys a share in the colosseum in exchange for further cooperation with the Di Natale family. The leader of the alchemists was already very interested to say the least. What really made them greedy was another promise. They were allowed to use disabled gladiators as test objects. This promise nearly drove the alchemists insane and they wanted to build the colosseum with their own hands as fast as possible. Most alchemists could only use weak slaves to test their new medicines or mostly poisons. Having extremely strong and ruthless fighters as test objects and many in number excited them to no end. They gladly agreed to intensify the cooperation with the Di Natale family and even be responsible for the education of Victor Di Natale himself. In this way Victor gained himself the friendship of the alchemists of Lys. This not only provided him an extremely strong protector against all kinds of assassinations but also an extremely strong partner for his future pharmaceutical company. In a feudal world, even with the knowledge of modern world, it would else be extremely difficult to produce drugs and medicine on a large scale. Without talents and a basic knowledge base, extracting medicines and drugs would be impossible for common slaves.

In this way Victor spent another year exploring the Di Natale estate and its surroundings, while his father and grandfather were further improving the family business based on his ideas. The colosseum was being built slowly but surely and rumors were spreading across Westeros and Essos by all kinds of traders that visited the port of Lys.

When Victor turned three years old, in 272 AC, he was already showing strong physical development. His new strengths allowed him to explore pretty much all the Di Natale estate. The sunny and polite young master left good impressions on all the family members and close confidants of the family. The greatest gift to Victor was news of his mother's pregnancy. The relationship of his parents was as close as ever and pregnancy in feudal times, without existence nor wish or need for protection, was no big deal. While being very worried about his mother, as pregnancy in feudal times could always end in a catastrophe, Victor tried his best to improve his mother's diet and strengthen her body. Anything even remotely helpful was done by Victor. Finally in September of 272 AC, with the finish of the first phase of the colosseum, Victor welcomed his new family member into this world. The birth of his sister, Giulia di Natale, went without much of a problem. Victor adored his new sister a lot and tried to help his parents, especially his mother. Isabella Di Natale, Victor's mother, didn't really need any help nor did she want any. As a mature soul in a small body Victor was easy to manage and Isabelle never really felt like being a mother was a hard or even fulfilling job. Her new daughter was a lot of work though. She kept crying all night for many days and in short was a "happy little trouble".

While Isabelle focused more of her day on Giulia, Victor's father, Amando Di Natale, focused on the physical training of his son. As Victor was getting older and stronger his father demanded strict physical and sword training. Victor was gladly accepting his father's demand, as having the ability of self-protection in a world of cold weapons. Victors' grandparents, Emilio and Suzanne di Natale focused meanwhile on the development of the family and Victor's literacy education. Education involved basic reading and writing education, but also visiting his teachers at the alchemy guild. Victor was by no means involved in any creations of poison. The Di Natale family as well as the leader of the alchemists came to the agreement to only provide Victor with basic knowledge of plants and biology while he was still young. This proved to be a very correct choice as Victor was slowly updating his knowledge base of his previous life.

Victors as well as the life of the whole Di Natale family was now on a fast lane. His mother took care of his sister for most of the day. His father managed the daily business of the family as well as his physical training. His grandmother managed most of the servants and his mental cultivation, while his grandfather was responsible for the connection with the major heads of the family and the project of the colosseum.

Time seemed to pass by fast while Victor enjoyed every day with his family. Fast forward to February of 273 AC. The four-year-old Victor, having just celebrated his birthday on January 15, welcomed the opening of the Colosseum of Lys.
