After a month, Blanc, Helena, and Terravalle Kingdom's army finally arrived at Resonance City.
Blanc sent a messenger ahead of time to inform them that a Terravallean army was on the way to participate in a joint military exercise with them.
Alenna, as the city lord's secretary, temporarily took over the city.
Upon receiving word that they are entering into an alliance with the Terravalle Kingdom and that there would be a joint military exercise, Alenna immediately headed towards the training fields inside the Forest of Echoes.
Since Alexander was currently not there, she looked for Leif. Unfortunately, Leif was still nowhere to be found.
Helena instructed her battalion commanders to leave Leif alone and let him focus on himself.
As the next highest-ranked battalion commander, Eden was ordered to prepare their army for the upcoming joint military exercise.
They had to show the Terravalleans that although they weren't a kingdom, they were still worthy allies!
Two weeks ago, Eden started their preparations for the joint military exercise.
The elite heavy infantry was divided into two groups and then, the two groups sparred with each other.
They explored different heavy infantry formations and studied which formation works better against other formations.
Meanwhile, the cavalry has been mastering a new formation which was found inside the secret booklet from Count Laurelei.
The booklet had secrets that only tier 1 kingdoms knew and the cavalry is currently training hard to master this new war formation.
Everyone in the training grounds was busy, some were excited while some were nervous about the upcoming joint military exercise.
The Terravalle Kingdom is a tier 4 kingdom, way different than the Dumont Dukedom's soldiers so not only were they curious about the Terravalleans' strength, but they also wanted to show the Terravalleans how strong they were.
Finally, after two more days, Blanc, Helena, and the Terravallean army arrived in front of Resonance City.
Alenna and the battalion commanders were waiting in front of the gates to properly receive Blanc, Helena, and the Terravalleans.
The Terravallean army was ordered to temporarily set up camp in front of the city while Blanc accompanied Geraint and gave him a tour inside the city.
After just two hours of touring the entire city, Geraint was impressed. He did trust Anderson Terravalle but seeing the actual city is different compared to hearing about it from others.
Previously, he felt that allying with such a "city in the wilderness" would not really help them that much.
However, after seeing the city with his own eyes, he felt that his king was indeed way wiser than him.
Not only does the city have the capability to help them right now, but their growth potential can be described as terrifying!
"That's about it for the tour, Grand Marshal Geraint. You may start the joint military exercise in the afternoon."
"Thank you for patiently touring me around the city, City Lord Blanc. I shall go back to our temporary camp for now."
Grand Marshal Geraint said as he bowed before turning to leave.
On the other hand, Blanc and Alenna returned to the city hall. He needed to know what is the current status of the city and the other territories under their control.
…
"Is Alexander not here yet? Tch! When will he arrive?" Helena asked his battalion commanders in an annoyed voice.
The joint military exercise is starting and they can't afford to lose face here. Although this is just a "friendly" joint military exercise, Helena knows that the Terravalleans are gauging their strength.
She also knew that they might not be able to get much information about the Terravalleans if they couldn't force their generals to reveal their full strength.
Still, with or without Alexander, the joint military exercise shall proceed.
"Reporting to the General! Alexander's messenger said that they might be arriving two days from now! If there are no delays, he should be able to arrive on time!"
"That's good! Maybe I'll request Blanc to fight first…" Helena pondered.
After a few more hours, Helena and her men were ready. They marched out of the training grounds and set up their camp close to the Terravalleans.
The joint military exercise will go on for a few days so there will be plenty of chances to not only probe each other but also to build a sense of camaraderie.
Once they've successfully set up camp, Helena went to find Geraint.
"Grand Marshal, my men are ready. Shall we start the exercise?"
"Let's start, my men are ready as well. Let's first compare our ordinary soldiers?"
"Agreed!"
Earlier, Helena ordered her men to distribute the blunt iron swords that would be used for the joint military exercise.
There were around 6000 blunt iron swords distributed among the two sides. It seems that Doran and his blacksmiths worked their asses off again this time.
After a few minutes of preparation, three thousand ordinary soldiers from Resonance City's army faced off against three thousand ordinary Terravallean soldiers.
Seeing that the two sides were ready, Geraint walked in the middle of the field.
"I will now be explaining the rules. Three thousand men from both sides shall fight each other in a mock war. The mock war shall end when either side is incapacitated. Begin!"
