After hearing Helena's words, the soldiers stopped hesitating and charged with all their might.
Indeed! It would be their families who would suffer if they lost the war.
*CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG*
The two armies clashed. However, after just a few minutes, it was evident that Helena and her army were way stronger than the Dumont Dukedom's army.
Especially since all of their elites including Gar Grayleaf perished during the battle in Resonance City.
Helena and the battalion commanders were unstoppable as they broke through rows after rows of enemy soldiers.
"Stop them! Stop them!!!!"
The newly promoted general already lost his composure after seeing his army getting decimated by the enemy's army.
Unfortunately for him, simply yelling "stop them" isn't enough to actually stop Helena and her men.
The day passed and their numbers were already half of what it was while the Resonance City's army only suffered a few light injuries.
This is because Helena and the battalion commanders have been paving the way for them which made it safer for the soldiers to advance.
As for the Dumont Dukedom's side, there was no one who could stop Helena and the battalion commanders.
Fortunately for the Dumont City's soldiers, they got a break once night came.
However, it was just a temporary break. Once morning comes, they have to deal with the Resonance City army's attacks again.
This time, the Dumont Dukedom army played it a little safer than yesterday. They holed up inside their city while their archers stood on top of the city walls waiting for Helena and her army to advance.
"Hiding like a turtle? Ha! Do you think that will stop us? Archers! Try to shoot their archers down. Heavy infantry! Assume Iron Fortress Formation! Light infantry! Hide inside the Iron Fortress Formation and steadily advance forward!"
The heavy infantry suddenly bundled up together. Then, they raised their shields up leaving no gaps for the enemy archers.
Helena, the battalion commanders, and the other soldiers hid inside the Iron Fortress formation as they steadily advanced toward the city gates.
Due to this, the enemy archers couldn't even get a single kill.
After a quarter of an hour, the formation reached the city gates and they were finally out of the enemy archers' range.
The reason for this is that the enemy archers were also under attack from Resonance City's archers.
Blanc's archers not only had better quality bows, they were higher tiered than the enemy archers as well.
This is the reason why they could kill the enemy archers while being out of range themselves.
Helena and her men exited the formation as they clashed again with Dumont City's infantry.
Again, Helena and her battalion commanders were the ones in front so breaking through wasn't even that hard.
After just two hours, they finally broke through and were inside the city.
Inside his palace, Duke Dumont was panicking.
"How could my entire Dukedom fall in a span of a few weeks?! Why?! Why me?!"
Duke Dumont complained as he started gathering his stuff.
"If this Dukedom shall fall then so be it! As long as I'm alive…"
Duke Dumont muttered to himself. He's going crazy because of what's happening in his domain.
He made sure to maintain good relationships with strong nations while only waging wars against weaker opponents so he couldn't process in his mind how his Dukedom fell so quickly.
"I must escape! I mu–"
*BANG*
His words were cut short as someone blasted his door open.
"H-Hiiiiiiiihh!!"
"Yo! Where are you going? You think we'll let you escape?"
Helena said as she walked closer and closer to the Duke.
"D-Don't come! S-Stay away from me! D-Do you know who I am?! I'm Duke Dum–"
*SPURT*
Helena didn't waste any time and directly cut the head of Duke Dumont.
"Tch! You don't even have any backbone! How boring…"
Helena said as she walked towards the large balcony of Duke Dumont's castle carrying a severed head.
She then raised Duke Dumont's head high up in the air.
"Soldiers of Dumont City! I have already slain your Duke! Those who wish to surrender, put down your weapons! We promise that we will not harm a single citizen and we will also not kill those who surrender!"
Duke Dumont's severed head was the final nail in the coffin. Their young general was already slain by Alexander and they were like headless flies as they desperately tried to fight off Resonance City's army
Seeing that there was no more need to resist, all of the remaining three thousand soldiers put down their weapons and surrendered.
There was nothing they could do, they lost the war and they could only hope that their new rulers would not treat them worse than Duke Dumont.
Seeing that they all chose to surrender, Helena smiled and said
"A wise decision! We do not wish for more unnecessary bloodshed. As your new rulers, we promise to treat you better than this incompetent Duke."
"After a few days, a man named Arlo Heisenburg will arrive here. He shall take over this territory and be its governor."
"That's all from me! Arlo shall be the one to discuss the new laws that will be in place."
"As for you soldiers who surrendered, you shall be temporary prisoners of war."
After saying her piece, Helena exited the Duke's castle and met up with her battalion commanders
"Men! Detain these surrendered soldiers! However, do not treat them too roughly!"
The men quickly went to work and locked up the surrendered soldiers in Dumont City's prison.
After completing Helena's orders, the soldiers met up with Helena and the battalion commanders on the training grounds.
Tonight, they shall celebrate their victory inside the training grounds of Dumont City!
Helena and her men quickly retrieved all food and liquor inside Duke Dumont's castle.
They were surprised upon seeing the total amount of food and liquor that they managed to collect.
It seems that they will be both stuffed and drunk tonight!
Helena ate, drank, sang, and danced together with her battalion commanders and soldiers.
This was the first time that they tasted victory on enemy soil. It was usually them who were being attacked.
How sweet! The feeling of liberating a territory from an incompetent leader who treats his citizens like garbage!
Helena and her men indulged themselves in the feeling of victory as they fully enjoyed the celebration away from home.
