"Gloria, the choice is yours. We both want you. Who would you choose?" Jonathan smiled widely. His gaze became unprecedentedly meaningful.
Gloria responded with a smirk and said, "Mr. Brown, you know my answer."
Jonathan smiled and pursued, "I just want to hear you say it again, just like..."
He suddenly leaned closer to her, his voice soft. "Just like what you said when you turn down that man's courtship over the call."
Gloria flinched backward somewhat uncomfortably.
She turned her eyes to see the lights in Angela's car being turned off and then the car pulled out. "They're gone," she said. "I should go back too."
"I'll give you a ride."
When Gloria saw that their car was gone out of sight, she opened the door and said softly, "Thank you, but my car is right there."
"I'll pick you up at work tomorrow at noon," said Jonathan, watching her leave and remaining seated.
