章 12: The Feat for the Gods
After we returned from the 18th floor, I knew that I need to work really hard to increase my stats before our second trip next month.
So in the following weeks I increase my daily time in the Dungeon. Normally I would venture to the 9th floor or a few times a week, on my longer expeditions, till the 12th floor, but now I nearly go every day to my limit. Sometimes I would go down to the 13th floor and hunt near the stairs, as it was the first time in my life I had a time limit.
Even then my attributes increased so slow, that I asked Ryuu if we could either go a third time or move the planned date a couple of weeks back.
She refused a third time as she saw it as being in a regular party if you go three times, but she said we could go two weeks later than initially planned.
So I used the weeks I gained. I got a lot more injuries in the time and even questioned myself, why I made such a rush to get stronger. But I finally thought about my goal of the deeper floors and protecting myself from the plots of the gods and the world.

I have been in Orario for almost half a year and am now descending the stairs with Ryuu to my second visit to the 18th floor.
We made greater progress than last time but happened to meet a moster party on the 12th floor just before the stairs to advancing below.
Ryuu wanted to use her magic to quicken the pace of subjugation, but I stopped her.
"Would you be okay, if you let me handle this?"
"You mean to handle all of those yourself?"
"Yes, I still haven't made a feat to level up since would like to use this opportunity. I know it will slow us down a lot, but I don't know if another chance will arrive this soon."
I was honest with her as I didn't meet a monster party after the monster tide on the third floor a couple of months back. Even if a party is smaller in number, this one is on the 12th floor and has Orcs, Silverbacks and Imps. I couldn't make out a Infant Dragon that counts as a level 2 monster, but I get an oppressive feeling from the back of the horde.
"Okay, since you want that. But if you should be in a dangerous state or situation, I will intervene.", she says.
"Thanks, Miss Lion."
With that I take a defensive stance five meters in front of her and the monsters finally approach after I get their attention. The fast Imps are the first to arrive and try to stab me from different angles with their forks. I redirect some and take a step back to make the others miss. Then with a quick movement from my hip I make a wide slash and kill three and injure another two seriously. The other ten seem to wait a moment, but attack again. In this short time another group of five Imps and ten Silverbacks are here. Silverbacks aren't as fast but have a greater coordination among the group. They try to incircle me more, but after dodging to the left I stab out really fast and kill the two on my left flank. The Imps are trying to follow me and injure my back, but I use another horizental slash to kill another four with my speartip. I use the short pause of monsters to breath.
I don't know if the Orcs are too dumb or lazy, but they stand back so I only have to deal with the remaining 15 enemies before hunting them.
Just as I want to deal with the remaining Imps first, I get knocked to my knees by a heavy Fist in my back. Seems like the Silverbacks on the right came around me. The attack didn't injure me because of the armor, but my position is disadvantaged against my foes, so I'll try to get back on my feet, but the Imps didn't miss the chance to attack. I rolled to my right and used the motion to impale the other Silverback that stood there. I stand up and defend against another two incoming fists. A third nearly got me at the head, but I dodged in time.
Just counterattacking would use a lot of time and stamina so I changed my tactics and go on the offensive. I swing my spear to get a bigger space to work with and injure the other Silverback and an unfortunate Imp. Then I stab out to the incoming Silverbacks and kill two, but get injured by a fork at the arm. It wasn't serious, but increased the pain while handling my weapon. I made short process with the rest, but got a few other small injuries and a bigger one on my left leg, as a Fist of a Silverback got me there.
Now what's left are the Orcs and to be honest even I they had the greatest strenght from the assembled monsters, they were also the slowest, so even with my injured leg, I should be able to handle them.
Or at least that's what I thought.
The feeling I got wasn't wrong as I now could see something that was expected, but also surprised me.
Infant Dragon. I fought against one once and I expected it to be the strongest here, but what surprised me was the number. It wasn't alone but accompanied by a second of its species.
Oh he'll, now it gets tough.
Ryuu seemed to think like me: "Should I help?", she asks.
"No. I'll try it. If I can't do it, I'll call for you."
"Like you wish."
So with newfound determination I attack. I evade the attacks of the Orcs and mainly injure their legs to make them fall. I would then stab their throat or neck to fasten my pace. After a couple of minutes I was breathing heavily but my opponents were reduced to the pair of Dragons.
The fight wasn't over, but my stamina is near its end.
Let alone two, even killing one would be a good feat at this point, but I steeled myself. I knew, if I could kill them, I could 'Level Up' with this feat.
A feat worthy for the Gods.
