Cortney had a weird expression while walking toward the garden. She had talked to the director of the orphanage, but her proposal was rejected.
The director wanted to keep Syuzia's background a secret. This showed that he had made up his mind to get rid of Syuzia.

"What do you want?" Sharpness returned to Lucas's voice, sounding displeased.
"...Actually, I wanted to discuss a serious matter with you, sir. It's about Syuzia's past." Courtney spoke even though she felt horrible internally, seeing Lucas's attitude.
Syuzia was not an idiot, she knew what Courtney and Levon were aiming for immediately. She had found that killing was prohibited in the city and even abhorred. She felt disgusted and irritated for the first time in a long while.
"....No need, get lost." Involuntarily a deadly sharp voice left Lucas's mouth. This made him realize another fact.

Calling the driver, Lucas and Syuzia headed to the pastry shop nearby. He knew better than anyone that she had already had her breakfast, who would fall into such an apparent lie after all?
It was already 10:30 in the morning.
Hence, Lucas chose to treat Syuzia with some desserts.
"Have you ever eaten cake?" Lucas asked, sitting on one of the seats.
Syuzia shook her head in response.
"Alright," Lucas ordered the most costly cake he could find on the menu for both Syuzia and him.
In no time, a cake that even made Lucas's mouth water was presented before them. It was a slice of cake with a fresh fragrance to it, with deep dark chocolate designs on it.
Syuzia sitting beside Lucas also stared at the cake with mesmerized eyes.
"Daddy...Feed me." Syuzia surprisingly turned to Lucas with sparkling eyes. She did not have much knowledge as to what the family did, but she knew that parents fed their children to show affection.
"Okay. Here, open your mouth." Lucas did not hesitate and positioned himself to face Syuzia.
Looking at the spoon with a piece of cake and Lucas's face, Syuzia opened her mouth slowly.
"...!" It was like a bomb had exploded in her mouth, Syuzia's eyes opened wide as she savored the taste of the cake in her mouth.
Gulp~
"It's amazing..." Syuzia's eyes moved to Lucas.
"Of course, eating food with family makes it taste better," Lucas took another scoop of the cake to Syuzia's mouth.
Finishing Syuzia's cake, Lucas cleaned her mouth with a kerchief. Her eyes opened looking at Lucas with a complicated gaze, She gripped her clothes.
Lucas finished the cake quickly, sharing some with Syuzia too, and paid the money online through his mobile.
They walked out of the pastry shop in a relaxed atmosphere.
"Thank you...For adopting me and the cake." Words left Syuzia's mouth from the bottom of her heart. She felt that Lucas did all this so that she could forget about her past mother, it was partially the truth.
'...Isn't she a little too cute?' Lucas complained to himself.
Lucas smiled, the sincerity in Syuzia's voice truly reached him.
"Thank you for being my daughter too." Lucas hugged Syuzia slowly, Syuzia's head was buried in his chest.
