章 26: The Forbidden Name

Evangeline Science and Technology Laboratory

Gussa City

Evangeline Science and Technology Laboratory stood like a monolithic fortress in the heart of Gussa City, its imposing facade concealing the horrors that unfolded within its walls.

To the outside world, it was celebrated as a hub of innovation, the birthplace of groundbreaking scientific discoveries and technological marvels. The names of renowned scientists and inventors were etched into the annals of history thanks to their affiliation with this institution.

Yet, hidden beneath this facade was a dark and sinister secret.

As the sun dipped below the horizon and the city's bustling streets grew quieter, a chilling transformation occurred within the laboratory.

Night after night, the silence was shattered by haunting screams that reverberated through the nearby streets.

The soul-shattering cries of unidentified beings tore through the stillness, sending shivers down the spines of those who dared to venture too close.

Occasionally, a sickening, otherworldly stench wafted through the air, a sinister reminder of the evil activities transpiring behind closed doors.

Despite these disturbing occurrences, the government held the laboratory and its respected occupants in high regard, valuing their extraordinary abilities above all else.

Sinister machinations were underway inside the laboratory beneath its sterile fluorescent lights and gleaming laboratory equipment.

A group of scientists, led by a seemingly ageless woman, gathered to discuss their most audacious project's progress.

"Director, the plan has moved smoothly, and we've taken hold of Tasar City," reported an elderly scientist, his voice trembling with excitement and trepidation.

Despite her cold and calculating demeanor, the woman, who appeared to look no older than a sixteen-year-old girl, regarded him with a gaze as sharp as a scalpel.

Her features were framed by an eyeglass that emphasized her willingness to project an air of maturity.

"Did they resist?" Her voice was a haunting melody, as beautiful as the angels singing.

The scientist hesitated, his gaze falling to the floor. "They... they died before they could resist, Director," he finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

A cruel smile tugged at the corners of the woman's lips, an incongruous expression on her youthful face. Her obsidian eyes gleamed with malice as she surveyed the room below, where mutated and tortured creatures languished in agonized silence.

Each experimental subject was a grotesque amalgamation of flesh and machinery, their physical forms twisted beyond recognition, their humanity stripped away through a regimen of unspeakable torment.

"It is a pity indeed," the Director purred, her gaze fixated on the tableau below. To her, their suffering was a source of delight.

"It won't be long before we take full control of the country," she continued, her chuckle carrying an unsettling feeling.

Her eyes, however, revealed the depths of her cruelty. "Sifaril will be ours."

As she spoke those words, a dark and evil force continued to rise within the laboratory's walls, its nefarious influence spreading like a creeping shadow over the once-prosperous city. The world remained oblivious to the horrors hidden within, and the Director reveled in her vision of a future where she held dominion over all.

In the shadowed alleys and dimly lit corners of the City of Gussa, a sinister and chilling tale lingered, whispered from generation to generation.

It was a tale of superstition and dread that held the hearts of parents captive and made them tread carefully when bestowing names upon their offspring.

In the City of Gussa, it was forbidden to name a female child Celestine.

The legend told that calamity would befall those who dared to utter the name as if the mere sound of it could summon evil forces from the darkest depths of the world.

Whispers in the night claimed that demons would descend upon the household that dared to name their daughter Celestine, seeking to claim her soul as their own. This chilling belief held sway over the hearts of parents, and as a result, not a single female child bore the name Celestine in the city.

Yet, another version of the tale lingered in the hushed conversations of the city's elders.

They believed the name Celestine was sacred, imbued with a power surpassing mortal comprehension.

They whispered of ancient prophecies that spoke of divine retribution for those who would bestow such a name upon their child. It was said that the gods themselves would take vengeance upon those who dared to defy their will and bless their offspring with the name Celestine.

Little did the people of Gussa know that Celestine was far from a mere superstition or myth. It was a name that held power beyond their imagination, and one of the city's most influential figures bore that very name—Celestine Thirstenpale.

Celestine Thirstenpale was the Director of the Evangeline Science and Technology Laboratory.

What the people of Gussa did not know was that Celestine Thirstenpale was far more than the Director of a prestigious laboratory.

She was the beloved and only wife of a being feared and revered in equal measure, the demon lord himself.

As the demon lord's wife, Celestine Thirstenpale wielded influence far beyond the laboratory's walls.

She was the architect of schemes that would shape the destiny of nations, and her ambitions knew no bounds. To the unsuspecting world, she was a brilliant scientist and respected director, but she was the orchestrator of chaos and upheaval in the shadows.

Celestine Thirstenpale's voice echoed with a chilling delight that sent shivers down the spines of those unfortunate enough to be present. Like the tinkling of sinister bells, her laughter filled the air as if to underscore the madness that thrived within her bones.

The creatures held captive in the laboratory, twisted and transformed through unspeakable experiments, writhed and contorted in their cages.

"It's been so long since I tasted the bath of blood!" she exclaimed, her voice a perverse symphony of ecstasy and cruelty. Her eyes, once youthful and innocent in appearance, were now windows into the abyss, reflecting the darkness that had consumed her soul.

As her laughter reverberated through the chamber, the creatures' madness intensified. They clawed at their cages.

For Celestine, this was a macabre feast, a perverse indulgence that fueled her insatiable appetite for power and chaos. She had long since shed any semblance of humanity, becoming a fiendish puppeteer.

Her laughter subsided, leaving an eerie silence in its wake. She surveyed the twisted beings before her, her eyes glinting with malevolent satisfaction. "Such exquisite agony," she mused, her voice low and seductive. "But this is only the beginning, my darlings. There are greater horrors yet to come."

The creatures, trapped in their nightmarish existence, could only tremble in dread at her ominous words. They were but pawns in her sinister game, destined to be sacrificed to her insatiable ambition.

"Sister, wait for me..."
