Lucian found himself in a lavish room that left him in awe. The room was adorned with beauty and extravagance. In the center, there was a magnificent glass table, and on either side of it stood two opulent chairs.
Lucian took a seat in the left chair, his curiosity piqued by the luxurious surroundings. He noticed that there were no visible entry or exit points; access to this place was restricted to those with specific administrative privileges. These privileges included winning the world championship or using a world item, an item that has the power to fundamentally alter the game. To use such an item, one needed to contact the game developers, who held the authority to approve or deny such requests.
Upon arriving in this place, Lucian was met with a loading screen that displayed the message:
[Contacting the «Administrators»...]
When Lucian tapped on the screen, he received a message asking him to "Please wait patiently." He decided to heed this advice and settled into a chair, patiently waiting for the administrators to arrive. During the wait, Lucian opened his console and began organizing his inventory. His OCD tendencies compelled him to ensure that everything was as compact and neatly sorted as possible.
"I should create another category in my inventory for items that are only useful in specific situations,"Lucian muttered to himself as he sorted through the various cash shop and gacha items. While they might not be immediately valuable, he saw the wisdom in holding onto them, given his limitless inventory space.
Lucian continued sorting through his inventory, but soon he sensed someone's presence. When he looked up, he saw someone standing in front of him.
"Are you the developer who's here to grant me the World Champion class and listen to my request?" Lucian asked as he closed the menu he had been browsing and looked at the person who had just arrived.
The only distinctive feature Lucian could discern about the developer or admin's avatar was the brown hair and the feminine body shape, as everything else appeared very NPC-like.
"Uhm... Can we please have a talk first?" the voice said, stuttering a little, which made Lucian feel as if the other party were intimidated. Though he should be the one feeling that way, after all, the devs have supreme god-like powers in the game.
"Hey, are you okay?" Lucian asked, concerned about the well-being of the person. Although he didn't know who this was, she was female from her voice. He had noticed her stuttering and the rapid breathing, even though it was in VR. Breathing was an essential part of one's consciousness, and it naturally carried over to VR, especially in intense situations.
"Ah, I'm fine. Can you please just listen to me? Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please..." Suddenly, like a broken record, the person in front of him started repeating the same word, her voice breaking in between. However, she remained the same as she continued to chant the same thing continuously, making Lucian worried.
"Hey, calm down, developer-san. You should log out if you are not feeling okay. Maybe send someone else, or I'm even fine with giving my request for the world champion class item at a later date," Lucian said. After all, he wasn't worried about getting scammed and not getting his weapons and class. He knew there is a GM function that can help him should the need arise.
"No no no no no no no no no no no! Please listen to me," she chanted. However, Lucian immediately pushed her into the empty chair.
"Just tell me what's your problem! And calm down! I'll listen." Lucian's stern words seemed to help, as she gradually regained control of her breathing and her composure.
"I'm truly sorry for my behavior. I panicked, and that tends to happen, whenever i panick." The avatar of the dev, or at least that's what Lucian believed it to be, said as she took a deep breath..
"So, what is it that I have to listen to?" Lucian asked as he took his seat once again and looked at the stoic avatar of the woman.
"Uhm... So..." And then she began a long explanation of a series of events that led to a game-changing turn of events with Lucian receiving a class that was essentially a cheat.
************
"So you're saying I'm cheating? And it's your fault that I'm cheating?" Lucian asked, processing all the information given to him by the dev.
"It's all my fault, and it was not supposed to happen. Please, forgive me," the girl once again said, apologizing. In fact, she has been apologizing almost every 2-3 sentences. Lucian didn't understand why she was so polite and apologizing every second, but seeing it from her perspective, it made sense. After all, she had made a big blunder.
"So what do you want me to do exactly? The job class belongs to me now, even if it was given by mistake," Lucian said, making his stance clear on the job class. He had paid for it, and not a little but a lot. And she basically said that it was a scam run by Devs. How bad would it be if someone else were to learn it?
"Uhmm... Ano... Can you please settle for some other class? I can give you rare job classes that will help you. I just want you to remove that job class. Plus, the class is useless as only half of it is coded. Doesn't it make the game boring for you? Please, just drop the class, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please," the developer pleaded repeatedly.
"No!" Lucian shouted firmly in response to her plea. There was no way he would give up the class he had paid for. It was rightfully his, and he was determined to keep it, even if it meant going to court.
The developer suddenly looked excited and got up, proposing a new deal. "How about this!" she exclaimed. "I'll provide you with information about a world item! Yes, that's it! How does that sound? Having a world item instead of a boring class? I can even give you the location to find one!" Her excitement was palpable, and she seemed to expect Lucian to accept eagerly. After all, a world-class item was a game-breaking treasure.
Lucian considered the offer for a moment and then firmly stated, "How about... No!?" His tone carried a sense of finality, and he looked at the developer, a sense of frustration evident in his expression.
But then, suddenly, something in his mind snapped, and he hatched a devious plan.
"Okay, first, can you give me my [World Champion] class?" Lucian said as he sat down and continued, "Let me think about your offer."
"Really?" The girl immediately got excited as she brought up her developer's console, typed something on it, and soon Lucian received some notifications.
[You have acquired the Job Class «World Champion / Muspellsheim»]
[The Champion Chain quest has been unlocked]
[Your Karma has seen a rise +50]
"Thanks, that's better," Lucian said as he sighed in relief. Finally, he had acquired the world champion class, and he could now relax a bit.
"So, are you fine with my offer? A world-class item it is?" The girl said as she immediately sat down in front of him, eager to await his answer.
Lucian's smirk was concealed by his avatar as he continued, "No, but I've got an offer for you."
"How about you work for me instead?" Lucian suggested as he equipped the [World Champion] class through his console.
"What do you mean? Are you not going to accept my request?" The girl asked, confused and worried, her voice beginning to crack once again.
"Are you worried about losing your job?" Lucian asked.
"Yes, if anyone finds out and reports it to the board of directors, I'm done for," the girl replied, her voice breaking at the end. She continued, "They'll blacklist me not only from the company but also add it to my resume. It'll become impossible for me to get a job, and then I'll have to live in shelters... aghhhhh..."
"Stop crying!" Lucian shouted, trying to calm down the distressed woman.
Hearing Lucian's stern voice, she immediately flinched a little bit, but soon she calmed down and listened to Lucian's request.
"You see, Developer-san, wait, I didn't even get your name. What's your name?" Lucian asked as he gestured for her to tell her name.
"Ah, sorry for my late introduction. My name is Kirin Suzune." The girl said as she bowed her head, her avatar performing a Japanese bow.
"It's nice to meet you, Suzune. My name is Lucian, Lucian Evans." Lucian said as he extended his hand for a handshake.
"Evans?" the girl asked, looking puzzled as she shook Lucian's hand.
"Yes, Evans. Now, would you hear me out?" Lucian said as he pulled her closer.
This would be the moment that would change Kirin Suzune's life, for better or worse. But she knew she wouldn't regret it.
