Alexander Foster waved his hand, and all the secret guards upstairs withdrew. Inside and outside the building, tranquility was restored once again.

He turned around and belatedly realized that Chloe Collins seemed to have been staring at him all along. There was a look in her eyes that was rarely seen—it was a look of admiration and fondness.

She stood under the light, her fair cheeks wrapped in a soft halo, and with a slight smile on her face, she looked bewitching.

"Were you scared?" he asked softly as he ascended the stairs.

Chloe shook her head, the corners of her mouth still curled into a faint smile.

"I thought we were going to have a fight." She tilted her head slightly and looked at him with a smile, asking, "How did you know he was coming?"

"It was a guess."

She nodded, and was about to say something, then hesitated.

He wasn't in a rush but waited quietly.
