章 144: Chapter 144 "Your Scent"

Christine turned to address Wentworth and the others, saying, "Welcome, everyone. These delicacies are prepared for you all. Please enjoy!"

Without wasting a moment, Green eagerly rushed over to the array of delicacies, and Cedric followed, calling out, "Would you be alright if you ate right after you vomited?" He tried to confirm Green's condition.

Green responded calmly, "Don't worry about me, Cedric! My belly is now empty again, ready to be filled with these luxurious meals Ms. Vole just provided for us!"

Wentworth and Cassandra strolled in more leisurely. Wentworth inquired, "Cassandra, why is your Father nowhere to be seen? Shouldn't he accompany you as the man of the house?"

Cassandra paused briefly, then explained casually, "My Father is resting. The doctor instructed him to stay in bed for a while to recover faster."

Acknowledging this, Wentworth nodded casually. "I see, fast recovery for your Father!"

Subsequently, Wentworth reached for a small cake on the table, but before he could grasp it, the cake leaped up on its own to his hand.

Wentworth watched in surprise as the little cake performed a lively tap dance on the table, finally jumping onto his hand.

This was the first time he had ever seen a magical cake in his whole life!

Surprised, Wentworth remarked, "Cassandra, it seems your family's banquet is well-prepared. I've never seen such a lively cake before."

Cassandra smiled awkwardly. At that moment, Christine stepped forward to explain, "Certainly, these magic little cakes are rare in the UK; their origin is in the United States."

Wentworth nodded, sighed, and commented, "Having such elaborate food in a room where only a few of us are eating seems a bit wasteful. I'm afraid some of it would go to waste, Cassandra..." The signs of worry could be heard clearly in his tone.

Hearing their conversation, Christine decided to join it after deducting something from what Wentworth had just said.

Christine chuckled at Wentworth's remark and replied, "I didn't expect you to be such a frugal wizard!"

Wentworth shrugged, appearing somewhat embarrassed as he admitted, "From a young age, my family was poor, and I got used to being frugal."

Christine laughed in response, then playfully pointed at Wentworth, saying, "You're really joking! Wouldn't the other wizarding families be beggars if your family is poor? You're the heir of the Grindelwald family!"

The look on Christine's face is almost close to mocking him. Christine thought to bait Wentworth out by using a few tricks.

Wentworth remained unfazed by Christine's revelation of his identity. Instead, he casually picked up a small cake, took a bite, and then expressed his dissatisfaction, "Some are too sweet. Although the rest are okay, I always feel they're not suitable for my taste."

Christine observed Wentworth, sensing an unusual calmness that made her uneasy. So, she dropped her smile and explained, "Maybe it's because you've been living in the UK, Wentworth. Today, most of the food in this manor is popular American food, so you're not used to it!"

Wentworth nodded in realization and frowned, saying, "It turns out that's it. But it would be a pity if such a spread of food goes to waste."

Christine responded indifferently, "It doesn't matter. You're not the only ones enjoying these delicacies tonight."

Christine clapped her hands with those words, prompting a series of footsteps from upstairs. Soon, an array of wizards descended from the second floor, encircling Wentworth and his companions.

Maintaining his composure, Wentworth observed the unfolding scene, while Green and Cedric swiftly set down their food, standing by Wentworth's side.

As the wizards surrounded them, Christine appeared relieved, dispelling her unease. With a slight smile, she added, "Actually, today is our celebration feast, so, of course, the food should be richer!"

Wentworth surveyed the surroundings, nodded with a tinge of apology, and said, "So, that's how it is. I sincerely apologize. We unknowingly started indulging in your celebration feast ahead of time. It was truly impolite."

Christine casually waved her hand, remarking, "No worries. Your last meal should naturally be a bit more lavish; it's only fitting."

A silence enveloped the hall after Christine's words.

After a moment, Wentworth gave a wry smile and jokingly remarked, "Why don't we pause the conversation for a while? Did I reveal myself too quickly?"

Christine responded seriously, "The villain died from excessive talking!"

Wentworth nodded in approval, acknowledging the wisdom in her words. "Hmm, I believe so..."

Ignoring Christine, Wentworth shifted his attention to Cassandra, who had been standing silently behind Christine. He asked, "Cassandra, can you now explain what happened with today's banquet?"

With a sense of guilt, Cassandra replied, "I'm sorry, Wentworth. My Father is in their hands. They used him to threaten me, to bring you here. I had no choice. I only have one Father!"

Wentworth expressed his anger, stating, "It doesn't give you an excuse to put my life in danger!"

Seeing how his expression changed from the calmness he carried, a bit of satisfaction appeared inside Christine's heart. She is savoring the moment and seeing how Wentworth would act in such situation.

He then questioned, "Are you the one that placed the key on top of my bed and sent me to those wizard hunters?"

Cassandra, lowering her head, nodded silently.

Wentworth chuckled, revealing, "Actually, I had a hunch it was you. Later, I detected a distinct fragrance on my bed—a scent I've only associated with you."

Cassandra blushed and looked down, embarrassed by what Wentworth just said. On the one hand, she is happy that he can recognize her scent from such things.

Interrupting the exchange, Christine shouted angrily, "Enough! Are you two done yet? Can you show some respect in this situation? Do you think we're helpless? Even as the leader of the Alliance, you can't underestimate us like this! Who do you think you are looking down upon?"

The other wizards stared at them while having their wands at the ready after Christine finished speaking.

Back to his usual self, Wentworth observed the room and started to smile mysteriously. "I need to praise you for not going easy on me even though I am only a kid."

Wentworth shot a glance at Christine, "On top of that, you even had a helpless child like Cassandra under your hostage just to get me here... I wonder which one between us is crueler than the other, Miss."

Christine's expression flickered upon hearing Wentworth's words... Deep down in her heart, she knew what she was doing was wrong, but she couldn't help it...
