章 17: Chapter 17: Demon
Zaos gazed at Kolvar with a complicated look on his face.
[This kid actually killed Zaos' parents because of that?] He shook his head. The original Zaos and Kolvar had been good friends since Zaos first enrolled in the sacred academy.
Kolvar was one of the only elves willing to befriend Zaos as he felt sympathy towards him, this was because of his own experience as the youngest son of his father. He was constantly suppressed by his brothers and could only look to the church of eternal darkness in his search for high social status.
During their graduation exam, Kolvar and Zaos were pitched against each other in the tournament which led to Kolvar's subsequent failure of his exam after losing to Zaos.
After that incident, he harbored great hatred towards his former friend. He had schemed with his butler, Shadow, to kill Zaos' parents.
Their plot succeeded through Vundin and when Zaos heard of the incident, he rushed home to confirm only to die in the forsaken woods.
"Don't look at me like that!!" Kolvar's screams brought Zaos out of his thoughts.
[This kid… he has lost his mind.] Zaos sighed as he watched the deranged Kolvar bare his fangs at him.
"Stop that! You—you did this to me! It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, I would have graduated and become a holy knight. I would have finally been able to make my father notice me! But you took it away from me!!" Kolvar madly screamed. He looked like he was about to pounce on Zaos at any moment.
[Let's end this.] Zaos shook his head. He wasn't in the mood to listen to Kolvar's rambling.
As he raised his dagger to strike the latter, he noticed an ominous crimson glow illuminating the room.
[Huh?] He quickly paused his actions and looked out the window. There, hung high in the sky was a bright crimson star that shone with the intensity of moonlight from his former world.
[How is that possible? Why is the crimson star out so early, and why is it so bright?] Zaos was extremely puzzled, the crimson star was a star that appeared in the skies of Krulon once a year. It shone for a total of 25 days and was visible throughout the world.
It represents the beginning of a new year which took 250 days, however, it had barely been 100 days since its arrival!
"Die! Die! Die! I want you to die ZAOS QILDOR!!!" Kolvar's shouts brought Zaos' attention back to him, he was about to send off the latter in annoyance when he noticed something abnormal.
[What the f*ck is that?!] Zaos quickly distanced himself from Kolvar as he watched the latter's lanky physique rapidly expand under the crimson glow of the star.
[Is he about to explode?!] Zaos was about to escape but became stunned when he glanced at Kolvar.
Kolvar's clothes were torn off and his skin turned red, a pair of goat horns protruded from his forehead and his mouth widened to a maw filled with monstrous teeth.
*ROAR!*
In a blink of an eye, Kolvar had morphed into a 3-meter tall and bulky monstrosity.
Zaos stared at the monster in utter shock.
[This… what is that?!] Zaos was stupefied. He had never come across any records of something like this on Krulon, instead, the current Kolvar looked just like a demon described in the myths of his home world.
The demonized Kolvar slammed his hands hard onto the ground causing it to develop cracks and collapse.
As they fell to the lower floor, Zaos regained his composure and activated his elemental weave, and turned invisible. He had long since deactivated the silencing elemental weave he set up in the room.
"Kya!!" "Help!!" "Save me!!"
Some of the servants were directly crushed by the rubble while others screamed in terror when they laid eyes on the demonized Kolvar.
[I have to get out of here!!] Zaos used the commotion caused by the destruction of the room to dash out of the manor. He didn't dare engage the creature in Grandum City!
*ROAR!*
Just as Zaos exited through a window, he heard the roars of the demonized Kolvar as he burst through the wall of the manor, hot on Zaos' trail.
[It can track me?!!] Zaos was startled as he increased his speed, trying to shake off Kolvar by running past the guards who had begun to surround the manor.
The demonized Kolvar didn't even spare the frightened guards a glance as he charged after Zaos, his hulking figure didn't seem to affect his mobility.
[What the hell is going on?!] Zaos screamed internally as he glanced back at the relentless monster.
[I can't fight that thing here, maybe I can lure it to someone else instead?] Zaos quickly changed his direction, he ran deeper into the city, his destination, the city lord's manor!
"Ahh!!" "Help!!" "Monster!!" "Quick, inform the city guards!!"
The citizens that ventured out of their homes after hearing the commotion began screaming in fear and panic after witnessing Kolvar's demonized form.
"Chase, the monster!!" "It's heading for the city lord's manor!!!"
Before long, a platoon of city guards began chasing after Kolvar who ignored everything else and focused on the invisible Zaos.
Zaos' expression was warped as he saw the monster relentlessly chasing after him, [What the hell is going on today?! How did a simple assassination turn into this?!!] Zaos cursed as he ran.
It didn't take long before Zaos saw the outline of the city lord's mansion situated in the middle of the city.
[Almost there!] Zaos increased his speed.
*ROAR!*
The demonized Kolvar followed suit, destroying anything in its path.
"What's going on here?" Just as Zaos was arriving at the mansion, a voice sounded out of nowhere. The voice, although not loud, responded in the ears of everyone present.
Before anyone could react, a terrifying aura descended on their surroundings, pining most of those present to the ground.
[Is this the city lord?] Zaos' heart skipped a beat as he barely withstood the pressure.
*ROAR!*
For the first time since he was demonized, Kolvar's attention shifted from Zaos as he roared out madly to the space in front of him.
"Oh? You can still move?" A figure outlined itself before the demonized Kolvar. It was a dark elf with lush black hair that reached his shoulders, his skin pale, but healthy, and he donned a simple black robe and looked at Kolvar with interest.
*ROAR!*
Kolvar roared in response as he slammed his fist towards the man.
"City lord!!" "Clan leader!!"
The city guards that had just arrived screamed in worry as they saw the giant fist plummeting toward their leader.
"Hmph!" The man sneered as he extended his right hand. In front of it, a small sphere of darkness quickly formed.
Kolvar's fist that was approaching the man was forcefully sucked towards the sphere, and in a blink of an eye, his entire body was sucked in too.
*ROAR!*
Kolvar struggled in vain as he was swallowed by the miniature black hole.
[What the f*ck!!] Zaos, who had distanced himself from the area immediately after he saw the figure appear, screamed in shock as he utilized his incredible eyesight to observe the situation from afar.
