It had been easier to sneak into the demonstration than I had thought it would be. Part of me wanted to believe that the council would have kept it small. I would have easily been noticed if they had.

It was shoulder to shoulder. No one batted an eye as I barreled my way closer to the floor where they were.

The roar of the murmuring crowd buzzed in my ear and faded into the conversation I had with Cerberus just before we left for the event. I hadn’t found an answer to maintaining the bond and I guess he could see the hope leaving my face.

“Hey, it will work out. The three of us all did what they are about to and your bond has been maintained,” I knew he was only trying to comfort me.

I gave him a nod when words had escaped me. I wanted to thank him but that had seemed empty.

“I just don’t understand why breaking it is so important. Why give her to me in the first place?” I said more to myself than to my friend.
