章 18: It's a sister thing

When I first saw her, the first thing that came to my mind was how stunning she was. I'd never heard from my mother that I had a sister like this, so beautiful, like a work of art because her jawline was so perfect and so his nose and eyebrows, she seemed like one of the people I hadn't met yet.

She was staring at me with such intensity now, her gaze like a predator checking its prey, and she gently squeezed her fingers against my cheek.

"Oh my goodness!" she exclaimed in a hushed, almost reverent voice, "This skin is so incredibly soft."

Her words were gentle, but I could sense the excitement in her tone. I couldn't help it; her touch surprised me, and I let out a little cry, "Waaahhh!" It was a mix of surprise, delight, and possibly a little discomfort.

With a burst of energy, the door swung open, and there stood Emily, completely perplexed, as if she hadn't expected to see the person on the other side of that door.

"My goodness!" she exclaimed, instinctively bowing her head in respect. What she said next took me completely by surprise, and I couldn't help but be impressed.

"It's truly an honor to see  The Crown Princess, The Future of our Kingdom."

It was an introduction like no other, and it left me speechless for a moment.

I kept my eyes wide and curious as I observed the situation in front of me. She referred to my older sister as the Crown Princess, but she appeared upset.

"Stop saying something like that again; it sounds ridiculous whenever I hear that!" she declared firmly but her little face scrunched in determination.

The maid, Alexa, appeared respectful but also determined. "Ah, um, I'm sorry, Crown Princess. If you may, can I take the princess to sleep?" I heard her ask politely, casting a quick glance in my direction.

This request didn't seem to please my sister. She kept on speaking, "Huh? Look, I'm here for my sister. I want to see her, so please just don't get in my way. I just want to see her," but there was a hint of impatience in her voice.

Alexa, on the other hand, stood firm, her voice unwavering.

"But it's already midnight, Crown Princess, and Princess Melissa needs to sleep right now," she declares.

My sister's tone grew sharper, and she questioned Alexa's response. "Are you talking back to me, a mere maid like you?"

Alexa maintained her composure, replying with humility, "No, Your Highness. It's my job as a maid to take care of the princess.''

The room was filled with an air of tension, but as a baby, I couldn't do anything about these situations. I was just an observer, taking in the world around me.

My sister, the Crown Princess, was having a heated exchange with a maid named Emily. They were arguing about whether I should go to sleep or not, and it seemed like a big deal to them.

I didn't understand why bedtime was such a topic of debate, but it was amusing to watch them go back and forth. My sister, with her determined look, and Alexa, trying to uphold her responsibilities.

My curious eyes darted between them as they exchanged words. The room felt alive with their energy, and I could sense the tension in the air.

*Thud*

Just when I thought the argument might subside, a sudden stumble at the door caught my attention.

A young man with golden hair entered, someone I hadn't seen before. His presence was like a breath of fresh air in the middle of the storm, and I couldn't help but marvel at him.

His golden hair glinting in the soft light. He looked around, clearly puzzled by the commotion.

"What's all this fuss about?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, his eyes locking onto mine for a moment.

I gurgled in response, my baby talk probably not making much sense to him.

The crown princess looked utterly disbelieving when she saw William. Her eyes widened, and she seemed momentarily speechless, though her expression quickly shifted to one of irritation.

"What are you doing here, William?''

"Well, I heard the commotion all the way from this chamber, and you know....I couldn't resist the urge to see what was happening.…. Big Sister''

I saw my sister cross her arms with palpable annoyance. "This is none of your business, William, return to wherever you came from."

I watched their exchange with wide eyes, still too young to understand the complexities of sibling relationships.

It was both amusing and confusing to see them bicker, but deep down, I was glad to have a brother and sister who cared enough to argue about my well-being.

"Could this be our sister? She looks exactly like our mother," William commented with a chuckle, his eyes filled with warmth as he looked at me.

"Our little sibling finds joy even in the midst of chaos."

My sister sighed, her exasperation turning into a fond smile. "Our little sister will definitely become an interesting lady in the future."

Alexa made a move to take me from my cradle in the midst of our shared hilarity but my sister, the crown princess, had other plans. She made her intentions clear by extending her arm.

"Alexa, leave us," she commanded, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Alexa hesitated, torn between her duty and the crown princess's authoritative presence. It was an unusual and tense moment, one where I watched with curious eyes as the dynamics of power played out before me. Even at that young age, I could feel the gravity of the situation.

As Alexa reluctantly left the room, William, who had been silently observing the unfolding drama, couldn't hide his shock and confusion.

"What just happened?" he muttered, his eyes darting between me and my sister.

My sister simply cradled me gently in her arms, her expression softening as she looked down at me. "It's a sister thing," she said as if that explained everything.

Alexa cautiously bows from the crown princess and my so-called brother, William, and exits the room. Even in the face of their sibling disagreements, the tension had dissipated, leaving behind a sense of closeness.

"Come on, big sis," William teased, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Don't be like that."

My sister, the crown princess, turned her gaze to him, her expression still somewhat stern. "None of your business, William," she replied firmly.

William feigned hurt, placing a hand over his heart in mock dismay. "Ohhh, that's really hurt, sis," he said with an exaggerated pout, and I watched their banter with a sense of amusement, even as a baby.

I felt warm inside as I watched my siblings joke around with each other. Moments like these made me thankful for my newly discovered family.

I couldn't help but wish that these happy times and kind teasing would always be a part of my family.
