章 33: Grip
Adam set out early in the day, for the Adventurer's guild. For if he showed up early, the quest listings may not have been all picked.
At least, compared to showing up later in the day, Adam would have more options available for a quest.
Adam wanted to try a different type of quest this time, than a quest that required him to hunt.
It did not take him long at all to be standing before the quest board.
There were several quests to kill things, such as a manticore, and dragon.
However, it was far too early for Adam to do those.
Instead, he looked at the escorting quests.
It would allow him to see more of the world and get paid for it.
Plus, he may find someone he may want to use the Skill Usurping Ticket on.
Scrutinizing the quests, he found one such escorting quest.
It asked for someone to protect an unnamed high profile individual from Walcon to a place called Uilam
They were so high profile, the quest called for multiple escorts.
If there were anymore, Adam would have expected that there was also precious cargo, such as gems.
Whatever the case was, it would be a good opportunity for Adam to sightsee.
Taking down the quest sheet from the board, he placed it before Velna.
A subtle smile on her face, she noted: "So you are trying an escorting quest, Adam? That may be a good change of pace for you."
Adam replied: "Yeah, I want to see more and experience more. Hunting while okay, does get a bit tiring."
An understanding glance crossing her face, Velna said: "Sure, then, as the quest sheet states you will wanna go to the other side of town, and meet up with the caravan."
Nodding, getting directions, Adam walked out the Adventurer's Guild and strolled towards the meetup location.
Half an hour later, Adam assembled with a few other people, positioned at the side of the street was a carriage and horses.
Adam decided that it would be best to state he wanted to partake in this quest.
Greeting the other adventurers that were present, he waited for a person of importance to show up.
Sure enough, one soon did, he looked to be a butler of some sort with forest-green eyes.
Adam assumed there was some vetting that would be occurring, to know that that the vip was surrounded by trustworthy people.
Unsurprisingly, the butler, introduced himself, addressing the adventurer's as a group: "Greetings, I am the butler of lady Yerlarain, you may call me Micheis."
Reaching out his hand, Adam said: "Hi, Micheis. I'm Adam, a D Rank Adventurer."
Raising his brows, Micheis shaking Adams hand, he responded: "Hey, Adam..." his gaze surveying the nearby adventurer's.
He shook hands quickly with each adventurer, who uttered their names, following Adam's introduction.
"Looks like we got a good group."
"But, it doesn't hurt to be certain. Sometimes people act like worms, so lets do this..."
Reaching his hand out, Micheis said: "Take hold of my hand."
One side of his lips curled up in doubt, as Adam put back out his hand, their hands meeting again.
Adam could feel Micheis squeeze harder.
Sighing, Adam put a bit of force into his grip. His new strength is something he had to work at better controlling.
A bead of sweat raced down Micheis face as he quickly eased their hold on Adam's hand, their face flushed.
"Must be close to C Rank...", Micheis said, letting out a weak laugh.
As if to prove himself, he strained himself, as he tested the other adventurer's grip strengths.
The adventurers were not able to hold out long, as their faces paled, with the extra force Micheis put into his grip.
Micheis, observing their reactions, he looked to have regained some redness in his cheeks.
A smirk crossing Micheis face, he stated: "Okay, you should all be just fine."
"To ensure things go smoothly, it would be good to meet Lady Yerlarain." He remarked.
"She has been sitting in the carriage for a while, so it would be good for her to get some air."
Shortly, they stood before the carriage door, just a few feet beyond its reach.
Micheis knocked on the carriage door, saying: "Milady, the adventurer's who shall be guarding you, are here to greet you."
A slight shaking in the carriage occurred, as the door of the carriage opened.
Since coming to this world, she was the prettiest person Adam had seen.
Adjusting his helmet, his calm was easily restored.
Her straight platinum blond hair that was shaded by a sunflower hat, passed down to the center of her back, her eyes a sea blue.
Yerlarain's had a peachy complexion and a distant expression on her face, barely smiling.
She was wearing a beige dress with a blue sash.
Her voice stern, she declared: "Hello, dear Adventurers. I, Lady Yerlarain, of House Violetstone am most assured by your presence." As her heels clacked as they touched the ground.
She gracefully waved at the adventurers.
Yerlarain's gaze swept over them as she lowered her hand, her eyes lingering on Adam.
Adam nodded towards her, a calm smile on his face.
One of the adventurer's stated, blushing strongly: "It is my-no our pleasure to protect you till you reach your destination, Lady Yerlarain."
She responded in an encouraging tone: "Do it well and you may be able to be officially employed by my family."
Beaming a smile, the adventurer replied: "Yeah, certai-" his voice faltered as Yerlarain turned around, and started walking up the steps to the carriage again, no longer focused on them.
With a bang, the carriage door shut.
"Isn't Lady Yerlarain amazing?" The same adventurer muttered.
Shaking his head to himself lightly, Adam dragged his gaze from the carriage, to Micheis.
Who had just stood up after bowing, immediately questioned: "Milady has to be protected well, understand?"
The adventurer's nodded, Adam shrugged, reflecting: 'Seems we passed as escorts.'
"Time to get a move on to Uilam then." Micheis announced.
Cracking his fingers, Adam strode forth into the caravan's formation.
Now trailing behind the carriage, it's wheels starting to rotate, his trip to Uilam began.
