章 128: The Eclipse's True Goal

In the midst of the unfolding chaos, Isabella and her team fought to maintain their footing. The merging energies created a surreal landscape where shadows danced with reality, and the very fabric of the world seemed to unravel. The Eclipse's last-ditch effort to bring about the convergence had plunged them into a realm beyond their understanding.

As the team struggled against the overwhelming force, Cypher, ever the analytical mind, attempted to stabilize their connection to reality. His fingers flew across the holographic interface as he sought to decipher the nature of the converging energies.

"We're caught in a feedback loop, a resonance between their powers and the ritual. If we can disrupt the synchronization, we might have a chance to escape this," Cypher shouted over the dissonant hum of intertwining energies.

Isabella, gritting her teeth against the surreal assault on her senses, nodded in agreement. "Do it, Cypher. We can't let their twisted vision become a reality."

With a burst of determination, Cypher manipulated the frequencies of their communication devices, creating a counter-resonance that disrupted the unified force of The Eclipse's powers. The chamber, once a maelstrom of chaotic energy, began to stabilize, and the oppressive atmosphere lifted.

But just as it started stabilizing, another burst of power exploded from within, causing the atmosphere to once again go out of control.

"Dammit, it won't work, dammit!" Cypher shouted in anger as he tried to find a way to disrupt it.

"Not good, I can't do anything now, the force is growing stronger and stronger, I have no idea what to do," Cypher said as he sighed and shook his head.

"No worries!" Carl's voice was suddenly heard from their communication devices as he appeared above them all.

"I got it!"

A gust of green wind struck the area, causing the power that was growing rampant to weaken. The entire building they were in was covered in some sort of energy, and that energy started to flicker right away.

"Is that it?!" Carl asked as he stared at one part of the building.

[ Yes, that's the origin of the power, destroy it quickly! ]

The system said with urgency as Carl nodded before using his Devil powers, turning both of his arms into Devil arms and creating a spear of hellfire that he quickly hurled at where he felt the weird power originated from.

As his hellfire spear struck, it easily passed through the invisible barrier that covered the entire building and struck the origin, destroying it and causing an otherworldly scream to ring out. In an instant, the power that the Eclipse had gained weakened, and the rest of Carl's team was now able to see them.

The Eclipse, realizing their loss of control, fought desperately to regain dominance over the converging energies. However, the unity they had achieved through the dark ritual was slipping away, and the consequences of their actions became increasingly unpredictable.

"You should be able to defeat them now," Carl said as he sat down at the edge of the neighboring building and watched his team, ready to intervene if there was any need for him to do so.

As the team seized the opportunity to strike back, Isabella, Nacht, Blorg, and Rex coordinated their efforts. With a combined assault, they targeted The Eclipse's individual members, exploiting the moment of vulnerability. The leader, once shrouded in darkness, now stood exposed to their onslaught.

Cypher, from his vantage point, exploited the fluctuations in the converging energies. With precise calculations, he manipulated the feedback loop to create openings in The Eclipse's defenses. The once unstoppable force began to crumble under the strategic assault.

In a final act of defiance, The Eclipse leader attempted to draw upon the remaining shadows to shield himself. However, Isabella, fueled by a determination to end the threat, unleashed a surge of freezing energy that encased the leader in an unyielding block of ice.

The Eclipse, their powers now fragmented and weakened, faced the inevitable defeat. The convergence, once a looming threat, dissipated like a dissipating storm. The symbols on the chamber walls ceased their ominous glow, and the surreal landscape returned to the cold reality of the underground chamber.

As the team caught their breath, Isabella approached the frozen figure of The Eclipse leader. His eyes, though still defiant, held a glimmer of realization that their grand plan had crumbled.

"In the end, it seems like you truly weren't anything special," Isabella remarked, her voice echoing in the now-silent chamber.

The Eclipse leader, encased in ice, offered no response. The remaining members, subdued and powerless, awaited the VSA's judgment.

Carl, watching the events unfold from the rooftop of the building, nodded with a sense of satisfaction. "Good work, team. The Eclipse's threat has been neutralized."

As the VSA agents escorted The Eclipse into custody, Isabella couldn't shake the lingering questions about the convergence and the cryptic words spoken by their adversaries. The battle might have been won, but the enigmatic nature of The Eclipse's motives continued to cast a shadow over her thoughts.

Carl suddenly appeared in front of them and stared at the members of the Eclipse before walking toward them.

"You know what you have done, I hope selling your soul was worth your failure," Carl said before he smirked at the leader and transformed his arm, causing the eyes of the three to bulge in horror and fear before his hellfire assaulted them, burning them to ashes.

"Carl, what did you-" Nacht stopped talking as Carl glanced back and shook his head.

"It wasn't worth trying to capture them, they were just waiting for us to do so before self-destructing, and no, there was no way for any of us to stop them from doing so, so I just killed them before they could kill themselves and take us down with them."

Carl's words made the others widen their eyes as Isabella took a step forward.

"How do you know that, and how did you know what to do to stop them before this?"

"Hey, we all have our own little secrets, maybe I'll tell you later?" Carl said as he smiled at Isabella before leaving, causing her to narrow her eyes slightly.

In the aftermath of the confrontation, the VSA debriefed Isabella and her team. Councilor Xenith, once again appearing through the holographic display, commended their success in averting a potential catastrophe.

"The Eclipse's true intentions might remain elusive, but your actions have saved countless lives. The VSA acknowledges your dedication and valor," Councilor Xenith stated, his tone carrying a rare note of approval.

Isabella, though relieved by the acknowledgment, couldn't shake the realization that the world they inhabited was becoming very different from what she knew, the power that the three from the eclipse had used was different from the flux powers she was used to.

As the team returned to the VSA facility, the sleek, high-tech corridors echoed with the sound of their footsteps. Isabella, deep in thought, found herself facing Carl, who was smiling at her.

"Listen, I don't want to keep secrets from you and the others, but I just can't tell you some things, at least not right now, alright?" Carl asked Isabella who sighed before nodding her head. He put his arm over her shoulders and pulled her closer to him before walking with her.

"Just don't think too much about it, it's all good."

'Did we really destroy all of it?'

[ Affirmative, no more demonic influence was present in the area, good job. ]

Carl nodded his head inwardly before thinking of what had happened and what the system had told him, as well as the mission it gave him back when Isabella and the others started fighting against the Eclipse and the enemies started with their plan.

[ Carl, this energy they're using, it's not flux, it's something else entirely. ]

'What do you mean?'

[ You must have sensed that when you use your Devil powers, you don't use that much flux at all, even your hellfire barely takes any flux to be activated, and its powers is immense, right? ]

'Now that you mention it, yeah, that's true.'

[ That's because flux isn't the only energy source that exists, it is the one that is used the most in the universe, but there are plenty of other energy sources and powers that exist. ]

[ The power those men are using is demonic energy, the same kind you use with your Devil ability, but they're not demons, not devils, nor do they have powers that are connected to them, which only means one thing. ]

'What?'

[ Those morons signed a contract with a powerful demon or devil, they've already sold their souls to become more powerful. ]

[ If I'm not mistaken, then what they're doing, the ritual that they are starting is nothing less than them trying to summon a demon here, you have to stop them, the power of a high-ranking demon is nothing to scoff at, I'm afraid that entire city will be razed to the ground the instant the demon appears. ]

Ding!

[ A new mission has been received ]
