"Peggy?" Steve Rogers' eyes flickered with a strange light when he heard the name. "How is she doing?"
"Captain, Peggy Carter is still alive. She has her own family and is very happy," Nick Fury said. "If you want to see her, I can arrange it immediately."
"She got married?" Steve Rogers raised his head.
"And she has a lovely daughter."
"Yes, when I left, I never returned, leaving her all alone..." Steve Rogers felt a heaviness in his heart, but in the end, he smiled. "I wish her well."
"Captain, do you still want to see her?" Nick Fury asked.
"She has her own life now. As someone who has been 'dead' for 70 years, I shouldn't disturb her," Steve Rogers thought for a moment and decided not to intrude into Peggy's life.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. is a behemoth, and even its former director was Hydra. I can't imagine how many Hydra agents Alexander Pierce had infiltrated while he was the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Nick Fury mentioned Hydra again.
"The director himself was Hydra, and S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't notice?" Steve Rogers felt it was quite absurd.
"No, Captain, they hid themselves too perfectly. No one in S.H.I.E.L.D., including myself, noticed anything," Nick Fury said.
"Alexander Pierce didn't expose himself while he was in S.H.I.E.L.D., but rather after he left," Steve Rogers asked, "How did he get exposed?"
"Well..." Nick Fury hesitated on how to explain.
"It seems the situation is quite complicated," Steve Rogers said.
"Captain, the exposure of Alexander Pierce is incredibly unbelievable. Even if I tell you, an ordinary person would find it hard to believe," Nick Fury said.
"For a WWII veteran who has been asleep for 70 years, there's nothing I can't believe," Steve Rogers said.
"Alright, Captain. The reason Alexander Pierce was exposed is entirely because of a question space. This space pulls people in and presents them with questions. If you answer correctly, you are rewarded; if you answer incorrectly, you are punished. The questions are all from the future. I saw some glimpses of the future in the question space, which led me to conclude that Alexander Pierce was Hydra. And you, Captain, I saw in the question space that you were still alive, which is why I started to retrieve you."
"So I was found in such a way?" Steve Rogers couldn't help but pause for a moment. Nick Fury's words were indeed quite incredible, even for someone like him who had witnessed many extraordinary things. He couldn't imagine such a place existed.
"Captain, in this world, there are aliens, and one day they will invade Earth. Gods truly exist in this world, and one day they will fight alongside us. Can you imagine all of this?"
"Gods? Are you talking about gods like Odin and Thor from mythology?"
"Yes, Captain. If we had managed to retrieve you just two days earlier, perhaps you could have met Thor. He just left Earth."
"Nick Fury, are you telling me that Thor, the god from mythology, is a real existence and that he was here on Earth just two days ago?" Steve Rogers sat up straight.
"It's as real as it gets. Although he has left Earth now, and you can't see him in person, we have a video. Captain, are you ready?" Nick Fury took out a USB drive containing a copy of the video from Tony Stark.
"Show me," Steve Rogers said.
Nick Fury started playing the video, explaining as it played.
Even though Steve Rogers had experienced many extraordinary things and seen his fair share of surprises, he was still shocked by what he saw in the video.
Gods leading aliens in an invasion of Earth?
Robots and witches conspiring for some evil plan?
He thought the world with the Red Skull was already crazy enough, but now he realized that the future was even crazier.
"No wonder you trust me so much. So, I am also a member of the Avengers," Steve Rogers finally understood why Nick Fury had shared some major secrets with him when they first met after watching the video.
"No, Captain, regardless of whether you are part of the Avengers or not, you are worthy of trust," Nick Fury said. "Captain, based on the pattern of this question space pulling people in, I believe that one day you may also be pulled in."
"Me?" Steve Rogers barely finished his sentence when he suddenly disappeared from where he was standing.
The next moment, he found himself in a strange place.
There was nothing here, just pitch-black darkness, yet it didn't hinder his vision in the slightest.
"So, this is the question space that Nick Fury just told me about?" Steve Rogers began to observe his surroundings.
As he turned his head, he noticed that he wasn't alone. There were three figures with him.
One had golden long hair and wore a red cape—Thor, the God of Thunder.
One had a beard and wore a valuable-looking suit—Tony Stark, Iron Man.
And there was another middle-aged man with slightly curly hair, looking quite mild-mannered—Bruce Banner, the Hulk!
Steve Rogers hadn't met any of these people before, but he had seen all of them in the video and knew the special abilities each of them possessed.
"Good morning, Captain," Tony Stark greeted Steve Rogers first. "Although there's no sun here, it's a form of greeting, regardless of whether there's a sun or not."
"Tony Stark," Steve Rogers called out the name of Iron Man.
"I heard you woke up, and I actually wanted to pay you a visit. I didn't expect to meet here," Tony Stark said.
"Tony Stark, you seem to know where this is. Do you mind telling me?" Bruce Banner spoke up.
"Dr. Banner, and Captain, this is a place called the question space..." Tony Stark proceeded to explain the question space again in detail. Not only that, he played the recorded video once more.
Steve Rogers had actually already watched it once, but since Bruce Banner needed to see it too, he didn't say anything.
"So, there's a place like this?" Bruce Banner also had a shocked expression after watching. His gaze fell upon Steve Rogers. "Captain, I never expected to see you alive. I mean, I spotted you at first glance, but I couldn't believe it was really you. You know, in everyone's hearts, you have already sacrificed."
"Dr. Banner, I thought I sacrificed too," Steve Rogers smiled.
