"Thor, strictly speaking, I didn't actually kill Surtur," Odin said.
"You didn't kill him?"
"Or rather, I did kill him, but he can be resurrected," Odin explained. "Once Surtur's crown and the Eternal Flame are reunited, his power will be restored, and Surtur will return."
"As of now, Asgard only has the Eternal Flame, but not the crown," Thor understood the situation.
"That's right. As long as the crown is still intact, there is a possibility for Surtur to be resurrected," Odin confirmed.
"So, we must find Surtur's crown!" Thor made a decision. "Only by possessing both the Eternal Flame and the crown can we ensure that Surtur won't return and stop the Twilight of the Gods!"
...
In a corner of an unknown location in New York.
In a pristine white room, a muscular young man, comparable to a fitness trainer, lay on the bed. The gentle breeze blew in through the window, tousling his golden hair.
"Another fly ball, it's a high foul ball."
"So, the Dodgers' score is tied at four to four."
The distinct sound of an old-fashioned radio echoed in the room, reporting news that sounded equally outdated.
The young man with golden hair slowly opened his eyes as he lay there.
He sat up from the bed.
"Peggy, looks like we'll have to postpone our dance," he said.
"Next Saturday at the Stork Club," a voice on the radio replied.
Memories started to surface in his mind. Steve Rogers was somewhat puzzled. He had flown a plane into the ocean, and he knew he had died. So why did he wake up again?
Was it Peggy who rescued him from the ocean and brought him back to life?
And the content being played on the recording was also strange. The game had long since ended, so why was it still being broadcast?
At that moment, the door creaked open, and a long-haired woman with an attractive figure walked in.
"Good morning, or should I say... good afternoon," the long-haired woman observed Steve Rogers, taking in the presence of this American legend.
"Where am I?" Steve Rogers maintained a composed exterior, but inside, he was already on high alert.
"You're in a recovery room in New York," the long-haired woman replied with a sweet smile.
"What place exactly?" Steve Rogers countered, his voice not raising much, but the pressure was palpable.
Thump, thump, thump!
The long-haired woman's heart skipped a beat, but she didn't appear flustered. "I'm not quite sure what you're talking about."
"This game, it's May 1941, and I was there," Steve Rogers directly pointed out the flaw, step by step approaching the long-haired woman. "I'll ask you again, where am I?"
This time, the long-haired woman seemed visibly flustered. She quickly pressed an alarm button while attempting to calm Steve Rogers. "Captain..."
"Tell me, who are you?" Steve Rogers growled in a low voice.
At that moment, the door swung open, and two fully armed soldiers rushed in. However, just two soldiers could never be a match for Captain America, even though this old soldier had just awakened from a 70-year slumber.
Steve Rogers' actions attracted more soldiers, but they were utterly useless. He easily ran past them and onto the streets.
However, the surroundings left Steve Rogers stunned. He saw rows upon rows of towering skyscrapers, colorful neon lights, massive LED screens displaying unheard-of scenes, and cars that he had never seen before but seemed far too advanced. The clothing worn by people around him didn't match the style of his era...
"Where am I?" Steve Rogers fell into deep confusion.
"Take it easy, soldier," a voice came from behind. Steve Rogers turned around and saw a one-eyed bald man walking towards him, dressed in a black trench coat.
"Listen, I'm sorry for that failed performance," Nick Fury approached Steve Rogers. "But, we believe you should slowly come to terms with it."
"Come to terms with what?" Steve Rogers asked.
"Captain, you've been asleep," Nick Fury stated directly, revealing the horrifying truth. "For nearly seventy years."
"What? This is seventy years later?" Steve Rogers initially couldn't believe it. However, as he turned and observed everything around him, the ironclad truth forced him to believe that this was indeed a different era.
As for whether it was exactly seventy years later, Steve Rogers didn't think the other party would deceive him about such a number. After all, there were plenty of ways to confirm the era.
"Captain, are you alright?" Nick Fury's voice came through.
"I'm fine, just missed a date," Steve Rogers sighed.
"Captain, it's not just a date, you've missed so much," Nick Fury brought Steve Rogers back to the retro-style room, giving him a brief overview of the outcome of World War II and the current state of the world.
"What about Hydra?" Steve Rogers asked after listening. "Have they been eradicated too?"
"Captain, I'm considering whether it's the right time to tell you this," Nick Fury pondered. "The situation with Hydra is quite complicated, and you've just awakened. There's too much information you need to grasp, and I'm not sure if now is the right time to tell you."
"Tell me, I've seen many complicated things," Steve Rogers said.
"Captain, for quite a long time, we thought we had completely wiped out Hydra," Nick Fury said solemnly. "But until recently, I discovered that Hydra has always existed, and it's likely much larger than I imagined."
"It's been 70 years since the war ended, and Hydra is still around?" Steve Rogers didn't seem particularly surprised. "They really have a tenacious life force."
"Yeah, just like they say, cut off one head, and two more shall take its place."
"Now, what's the scale of Hydra?" Steve Rogers asked.
"Captain, that's the problem—we don't know," Nick Fury said. "I am currently the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and my predecessor, the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., was Hydra. Right now, he's the only one I know of."
"S.H.I.E.L.D.?"
"Oh, the full name is Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division," Nick Fury said. "Captain, speaking of which, the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D. are your old friends."
"Who?"
"Howard Stark, and Peggy Carter. They are the founders of S.H.I.E.L.D."
