章 91: Unlicensed Enemies

POV: Torterra

After a long swim along the coast of Australia, I finally found the desert. There was no trees around. Only dry land and bushes. Only on the shore was fresh grass.

Leaving the water, I headed deep into the continent. There was only one road along the coast that separated the ocean and the desert. Crossing the road, I continued go forward.

This desert was not like the Sahara with its sand dunes. There wasn't much sand here. At least in this part of the desert where I am. The ground was flat, like the bottom of a dry lake. There were no trees or large stones. Just flat land all the way to the horizon.

This place was perfect for me. There were almost no people here. Only a few cars passed on the road I crossed. These cars stopped and people got out to get a better look at me.

Above me I could see planes circling following me. There were no helicopters, they got lost while I was swimming. But they must have run out of fuel and will appear again soon.

Going further north, I got further and further away from the ocean. Having gone deep into the desert, all I could do was lie down and wait. If the World Council doesn't attack me, I'll just rest alone. Maybe I'll add some green to this desert...

I didn't know what to expect from people. They might drop a few more nukes on me. Or drop something from space on my head. There are many options when your enemy is an organization that rules the world.

It is precisely because I do not know the motives of people that I came to this desert. Even if they detonate a nuclear bomb here, it won't be as harmful as detonating it in the ocean.

Thinking this, I closed my eyes to take a little nap.

POV: Marshal

Events develop quite quickly. I was prepared for direct conflict, starting with a clone attack on the coast of China. These people do not understand what they are doing, and I cannot reveal the whole truth to them.

This is either a big misunderstanding or a successful military strategy. Judging by the actions of these people, they have lost their rationality. They do things that are caused by fear and desperation. Fear of Kaju, fear of Torterra, fear of me and my power over the Jaegers, fear of losing power, losing control, the unknown, all weigh on people with great power and responsibility.

The life of the whole world depends on their decisions and it causes fear in them. Fear that is easy to manipulate. I don't know what to call it, but I can see the fruits of this fear now on the screens of my monitors.

There are riots all over the world. People start asking questions as they see the wall crumble from Torterra's light push. Many journalists get dirt on politicians and rich people, telling the truth about the situation in the world.

But there are also many people who cannot let go of their hope, which they have placed on the wall. And again, this is the result of fear. They are afraid of being left without hope. It is a pity that they believed the government so much, and now there are protests and chaos in the streets of the cities.

The government's propaganda on television also worsens the situation. They blame Torterra for everything. They even went so far as to say that it was Torterra who called Kaiju here with his presence. Few will believe this, but no one can deny it.

All this must be stopped immediately. Ever since the Clone attack, I've been working on compromising material against the World Council. I have many bribed TV channels, and when the time comes, all this information will anonymously appear on the air.

The people sitting in the World Council cling to their power too tightly. It is true that they put me in this position, but someone put them there too. All their power is based on the support of the governments of each country. If people are elected to the council, then they can be fired. All I need is enough dirt on them.

Too bad I didn't find another cloning lab. But I have enough dirt on them for them to calm down and sit quietly, not bothering me to close the portal.

BEEP BEEP BEEP

I heard the same siren as the Kaiju attack and headed to the command center. When I entered the room, everyone immediately turned their attention to me. The expression on people's faces was concerned. After empowering the Jaegers with new technology, people here usually joke when they see Kaiju, but now they are worried.

"What's going on Mr. Choi?"

"Three unregistered Jaegers have been spotted off the southern coast of Australia. They are heading underwater towards Torterra, Sir."

Unregistered Jaegers? It is not news that "handmade" Jaegers sometimes appear in the world, but they are weak and the military immediately confiscates or destroys them. It was absurd to hear that such Jaegers could walk on the bottom of the ocean. They would not be able to withstand the pressure.

So this is the World Council's response to Torterra's actions and the culmination of their plans for him? How did they make their Jaegers? What should I do? My duties include fighting the Kaiju, and I can't lose my pilots fighting other Jaegers.

In this situation, the Australian army should step in and destroy the unregistered Jaegers, but I have a feeling they will be ordered not to interfere.

"Send all information to the Australian military. Ask them to destroy the enemy Jaegers and take the pilots into custody and interrogate them!"

"Yes sir!" Mr. Choi replied.

This step I should have taken according to my authority, but can I do more? This isn't the first time Torterra has been put in a dangerous situation, and every time it happens I play the lottery hoping he pulls through. I can't win the lottery all the time. Sooner or later I will lose and we will lose him.

"Send Striker Eureka there and inform the military. Tell them that I insist on capturing these unregistered Jaegers and that our Jaeger will take them."

"Yes sir!"

Under the pretext of capturing the Jaegers to fight the Kaiju, I can send help to Torterra.

"Tell Eureka's pilots to capture live pilots for interrogation!"

"Yes sir!" Mr. Choi, as usual, worked quickly and passed on all my orders. I'm glad he works for me.

POV: Torterra

For several days I just basked in the sun during the day and counted the stars in the sky at night. I have already begun to think that nothing special will happen and there will be no consequences of the destruction of the wall.

But here it is! On the third day I felt the earth shake. Opening my eyes and looking towards the ocean, I noticed three large Jaegers walking towards me.

The Jaegers were black and so far from me that I could barely see them. The bright sun shone in the sky, heating the desert. This heat rose into the air and warped space. These Jaegers seemed like a mirage to me, but they were real.

It was necessary to prepare for battle. These robots didn't look friendly, although their appearance reminded me of the new Jaeger I met after fighting the Octopus. They had a flowing form with black armor. Their face glass was orange.

All three Jaegers were the same. As if they were made at the same factory. The only difference between them was in the things they brought with them for battle. One of the Jaegers had a large rectangular shield that he held in his left hand. The other Jaeger was holding some kind of long rifle with both hands, which from a distance reminded me of a sniper rifle. And the last Jaeger go with empty-handed.

`But you are rich! You have too many Jaegers to waste on me! You also have money to create new weapons! You're doing well!' Looking at them, I couldn't get it out of my head. When humanity is in crisis, they have the insolence to spend so much money for their own use.

Speaking of Jaeger with a sniper rifle, he stopped. He was very far away and like a mirage, but I could see him doing something with the rifle, preparing it for battle.

The other two Jaegers did not stop, striding confidently towards me. Every step they took caused the ground to tremble and they made high-tech sounds. The hum of their engines and hydraulics could be heard from afar.

I wasn't going to lie down and wait to be killed either. Rising to my feet, I straightened my back and took a deep breath. Picking the ax up off the ground, I grip its handle. I still didn't have enough energy for an atomic blast or even fire breath, but I had enough to charge the axe. This ax will save my life today.

RRAAAAAAAHHHHH

I released what was left of my fire to charge my axe. The ax gradually heated up until it turned bright orange. After I finished heating the ax, I turned my attention back to the enemies.

Two black Jaegers approached me at a distance of one kilometer and stopped. Along with them, I noticed many drones flying around.

"This is really an execution! They want to put on a show for the people!' We stood there looking at each other, getting ready to fight. The Jaegers were silent, and I did not know what to say to them. They came to kill me, but it was somehow wrong to just remain silent.

"When you go to kill someone, you must be ready to die yourself." I told them in sign language. I don't know where the pilots sit in these Jaegers and I wasn't going to think about it. This is a fight to the death.

The Jaegers looked at each other and then turned to me again. The next turn will start this battle.

"If I die here it will be a great disappointment..."
