Nova stood behind Amina with the flesh of one hand peeled off, leaving only his skeleton. At various points of his body, his flesh had been gouged out. Amina wasn't in any good condition either. She had deep claw marks all over her body and was bleeding profusely. It was a miracle both were still alive at that point. Putting up a fight against a higher rank was no easy feat. Most of the stalactites hanging from the roof had fallen down. The beast also had a few cuts here and there.
Lin peeped again and was shocked as the beast immediately noticed his presence. He quickly hid behind the wall once more. The beast turned towards him, but the two barred its way and released barrages of attack to slow it down. "Sh*t! I got to find out. That was fast. I need to do something and fast."
"Okay, so we are in an underground chamber with stalactites and a hole and a waterfall… wait stalactites. This might work." Lin thought and moved from where he was hiding. Knowing he would not be of help in a battle of that scale, he did not come out into the open. He instead used his flames to carve into the walls of the cave.
Amina and Nova were hanging on by a thread, trying to repel the beast, when suddenly black flames appeared across the walls of the carven. "Do you think it would work?" Amina asked as she looked at Nova. "I don't know, but, at this point, it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. It won't kill that beast, but it would slow it down long enough for us to make it out of here."
"Okay, then I will buy you some time", Amina said, and her power exploded like a broken dam. A gale immediately took over the chamber. It swirled around Amina, picking up debris as she headed for the beast. Debris were hurled at the beast, which it easily cut, but, others replaced the destroyed ones. She drew out all her power but couldn't close the gap between herself and the beast. She was, however, able to slow it down enough for Nova to do his bit.
Nova quickly created large ice spikes on the roof of the entire chamber. They were as large as two people put together and very sharp. "Amina now!" he yelled after it was completed. He shattered the base of the spikes, and they fell like hail on a stormy day. Amina used her remaining strength to pull Nova and herself into the hole below the waterfall.
Lin also ran back the way he came, but as he went, the space storage box suspending around him suddenly shook and appeared. It opened by itself, and a unique broken tablet appeared and hovered in the air before him. It was the same tablet he found when he first gained his abilities in the territory of Kore. The tablet floated away, and Lin gave it a chase without hesitation. "I had already forgotten about that thing. To think it would react here of all places."
Lin followed it for a long time until he got to a small puddle in the middle of a cave. The tablet dropped into it and disappeared in a second. "What? Isn't that supposed to be a puddle?" He stretched his leg to tap the puddle surface but was immediately dragged into it.
Though it was a puddle above, it was like an ocean below. "Huge! Appearances really can be deceiving." Lin looked around and discovered the tablet still sinking deeper and deeper. He swam deeper after it without a pause. "Where is that thing going?" He wondered. The deeper he went, the darker it became, and the more difficult it became for him to hold his breadth. The only light present was the soft glow from the sinking tablet.
After a while of swimming, he reached the bottom and discovered the tablet resting at a spot. He put his hand there and noticed how warm the ground there was. He picked up the tablet but felt a faint force pulling it back down. "Something down here appears to be attracting it. Time for a little digging." He dug up the spot, going on for about fifty meters down and discovered another slab of tablet there.
The tablet in his hands jumped out and attached itself to the other half. The water around him began to bubble as soon as the two merged. The engraving Lin had previously seen on the tablet turned out to be a glyph after seeing the complete tablet. The glyph looked like several atoms cojoined by Mobius strips with a bubble around the atoms.
Seeing the water bubble, Lin swam further back and watched from a distance. "What is that glyph?" The bubbling died down, and Lin swam to the tablet to satisfy his curiosity. He poked it with a finger, and the tablet vibrated intensely and shattered, leaving only the glyph floating in the water. Lin peered at it curiously when it shot towards him, attached to the back of his hand and seared onto it.
The pain was so excruciating that Lin opened his mouth to scream but gulped volumes of water instead. He quickly shot out of the water, clutching his hands tightly. He writhed in pain on the floor, coughing up blood mixed with water. He felt like lava was being poured on his skin. The searing began from his hands, then progressed to his arms and back. Eventually, his entire body was burning like he was submerged in bubbling magma. His clothes were completely burned, and a blue glow came from the glyphs spreading all over his body. He was covered in sweat and kept wailing from night till morning when the searing stopped, and the pain died down. He passed out several times during the process.
Several glyphs similar to the one on the tablet were visible across his body. Though the pain had died down, he was so exhausted from screaming he had no strength left to move from where he was.

After a few seconds breather, Lin felt a splitting headache, which caused his entire body to shiver violently. He clutched his head, and his eyes became bloodshot instantly. He clenched his teeth so hard cracks were visible on it. Several rune-like characters began to appear in his head like pop-up messages.
There were so many he felt his brain would be overloaded. The glyphs on his body lit up. In a blink, he disappeared from where he was.
