章 289: Chapter 289: Fouls

"Foul."

Charlie, who was chasing the Snitch, was nearly knocked off his broom by someone.

"Sorry, didn't see him!" Flint's face showed no sign of apology. Just as he finished speaking, a Bludger came flying towards them. Fred and George raised their bats and surrounded Flint.

Indeed, this match had become very dirty, and even the spectators in the stands weren't surprised. Every year, matches between Gryffindor and Slytherin always stirred up trouble.

However, Charlie's tough stance exceeded everyone's expectations.

Whenever a Gryffindor player was attacked, they retaliated immediately, turning the match into a brawl.

Madam Rolanda Hooch, acting as the referee, was so angry that she was trembling, blowing her whistle incessantly and giving both teams a stern scolding.

Charlie promptly apologized, but he argued that his players hadn't fully mastered the Transylvanian Fakes yet, which led to frequent accidents.

If it were last year, before winning the Quidditch Cup, Charlie might have considered these issues. However, their Cup was hard-won, causing Charlie to change his approach to Slytherin.

Since the other side wasn't planning to follow Quidditch rules, Gryffindor wasn't planning to follow the rules either. Watching his players being bullied without retaliating was definitely not Charlie's style.

Both teams continued to commit fouls, and the sky above the pitch echoed with Madam Hooch's whistle and angry shouts.

Commentator Lee Jordan was unreservedly biased towards Gryffindor and vehemently criticized Slytherin. He pointed out that they had broken the rules first, leading to the chaos in the match.

However, as long as you didn't cross a certain line, this brawl was still a Quidditch match, albeit with both sides constantly committing fouls.

Similar fighting incidents had occurred more than once in international Quidditch tournaments, and there had even been cases of opponents shooting arrows at each other with wands. Not to mention, this was just a simple school match.

As the match entered its middle stage, Gryffindor suffered the first loss when Angelina was hit by Slytherin and had to leave the field.

At this point, the scores had widened considerably: 140-40, with Slytherin holding the upper hand.

"Is Angelina okay?" Fred asked worriedly.

"Minor concussion." Charlie's expression was grim.

"Charlie, if we can't catch the Snitch soon, the other side will quickly pull ahead in points. By then, no matter who catches the Snitch, we're destined to lose the match!" Wood's face was filled with concern as he reminded them.

No one wanted to lose the match, and Wood was no exception.

"We don't need to care about winning or losing the match. Let's teach those guys a lesson." George waved his fist.

"For Angelina's sake!" Fred added. The two of them had just been surrounding Slytherin's Seeker, planning to take him out of the game first.

With one Seeker down, Gryffindor's chances of catching up in points were slim. Catching the Snitch was their only way to win at this point.

"But... is this really the right thing to do?" Wood looked uneasily at Charlie and suddenly asked, "Charlie, do you plan to join a professional Quidditch team after graduation? I remember..."

"No, I don't plan to join a professional team. I've already talked to Professor Kettleburn, and he's going to give me a recommendation letter." Charlie shook his head. He had declined an invitation from the English Quidditch team and intended to study dragons after graduation.

Charlie was one of the few students who attended the Advanced Care of Magical Creatures class, and he had good relationships with Professor Kettleburn and Hagrid.

In fact, Wood was concerned that Charlie's actions might affect his future reputation if he intended to join a professional Quidditch team. However, since Charlie had no plans to join a professional team, Wood didn't oppose his decision.

The match lasted a full two hours and ended with a devastating 310:70 loss for Gryffindor.

Afterward, many players from both sides were sent to the school hospital.

Professor McGonagall was trembling with anger. She called Charlie over and reprimanded him harshly. But Charlie argued that it wasn't their fault; Slytherin's team had struck first and had been aggressive.

And, in the end, both sides had merely violated the rules of the game—nothing major!

"Violating the rules of the game? Violations occurred hundreds of times during the match, and you're telling me this is violating the rules?" Professor McGonagall finally closed Charlie's detention. Charlie shrugged, seeming unconcerned. He didn't regret his decision today.

"Professor, if Slytherin was willing to play fairly, everyone would have been willing to compete with them. But they weren't, were they?"

As Charlie left Professor McGonagall's office, he calmly stated this fact, "Since they weren't willing, how can you blame me?"

Professor McGonagall was left speechless and ultimately canceled Charlie's detention.

In his mind, Charlie silently praised Albert. That argument indeed had a sharp edge to it, and he didn't think he had done anything wrong.

If Madam Hooch could really help resolve the situation, he wouldn't have had to do what he did. But the problem was, she couldn't!

"Are you okay?"

As Charlie emerged from Professor McGonagall's office, he was surrounded by his teammates.

"Okay!" Charlie said, "I got scolded by Professor McGonagall. But Albert's argument came in handy. Professor McGonagall originally wanted to put me in detention."

Getting put in detention because of this would have been really unlucky.

Afterward, they went to the school hospital. Many players were injured. When Albert entered the hospital, he saw George and a Slytherin student glaring at each other, seemingly figuring out how to harm each other with their eyes.

"Looks like your spirits are still up," Fred chuckled.

"Not really," George said. He didn't plan to leave the hospital anytime soon.

"Alright, Mr. Weasley, you can leave the hospital now. And the rest of you, don't crowd here!" Madam Pomfrey was treating other injured students.

"Are you okay?" Albert looked at Angelina.

"Not great, my head hurts a bit. Madam Pomfrey said I have to stay in the hospital tonight," Angelina was annoyed. They had lost again, and it was a devastating defeat.

"Don't worry, I've avenged you!" Fred whispered softly, nodding toward a certain bed.

"It's really baffling. It was just a Quidditch match. How did it turn into this!" Madam Pomfrey scolded angrily, "Did you all go there to start a fight?"

No one answered; the room was dead silent.

However, the truth was, Madam Pomfrey's words were spot on. They had indeed started a fight, just that the location happened to be on the Quidditch pitch.
