Unfortunately, wand-making was a technical craft.
Of course, as long as he was willing to learn, Albert was sure he could learn it too. However, the wands he produced would definitely not be on par with Ollivander's. After all, Ollivander was a professional wand-maker with generations of experience. Unless Albert was willing to spend a lot of experience points and skill points on wand-making, in Albert's eyes, buying a wand for 10 Galleons from Ollivander was clearly a more cost-effective option.
Indeed, it seemed more practical to prepare defensive magical items.
Wizards typically only paid attention to each other's wands.
Speaking of protective bracelets, Albert opened his box and took out the pre-formed protective bracelet. It was made from the root of Mandrake and the ancient runes hadn't been carved onto it yet.
Albert had been waiting for his runic skill to reach level three before carving the ancient runes. Currently, he was still about two thousand experience points short, and the further he progressed, the harder it became to earn experience. It was like high-level characters fighting low-level monsters; the experience gained would decrease significantly.
Originally, Albert had planned to rely on his own abilities to reach level 3.
"It looks like time waits for no one!" Albert sighed lightly. If he wanted to reach level three by himself, he estimated it would take until next year. By that time, who knows what might have happened. He didn't feel too annoyed though, and he remarked, "Well, having cheats is really nice!"
Saying this, Albert directly upgraded his runic skill to level three on the panel. Then, he closed his eyes and began reading the additional information about runes in his mind.
Reaching level three in a skill was a threshold.
After reaching level three in Occlumency, many wizards couldn't easily read his thoughts anymore, and he could fabricate some memories to confuse those attempting to peer into his mind.
Similarly, after reaching level three in runic magic, he did gain a significant amount of additional knowledge, which wasn't far off from what Albert had speculated. This part of the knowledge was related to runic magic.
The use of curses with N.E.W.T. level magic and traditional wizarding magic was different. This difference was somewhat like the difference between fairy magic and house-elf magic; they were both independent magical systems.
This was also one of the reasons why Ancient Runes was considered an advanced and profound subject, and even many wizards used it. Professor Flitwick only briefly touched on it in higher-level charms classes.
Hmm, the treasure of Ravenclaw?
Albert recalled what he had seen in the Chamber of Secrets and figured out how to open the chamber.
"Interesting," he muttered under his breath with a wry smile. He really wanted to return to the Room of Requirement immediately, but he suppressed his impatience.
He turned his gaze back to the defensive runes he had designed earlier.
Looking at the runes on the parchment, Albert felt a bit speechless. It was like looking at a child trying to explain something beyond their understanding in their own way. It wasn't entirely wrong, but it felt a bit... well, childish.
Yes, a bit childish.
Actually, when you truly mastered it, you would understand what it really meant.
Albert picked up his quill and began modifying the runes of N.E.W.T. level curses, revising the content accordingly. He then redesigned the runes for the protective bracelet. He used the ritualistic carving knife to slowly etch them onto the bracelet. After finishing, he cut his finger with a small knife, letting a drop of blood fall onto the runes. He chanted the incantation to activate the runes on the bracelet. The result was not much different from his previous understanding. The final step was to cast a spell on the protective bracelet.
The incantation used was in runic language, and the effect was similar to the Ironclad Curse, but slightly more potent.
"However, it doesn't feel that different!" Albert picked up the newly created Protective Bracelet 2.0 and inspected it from top to bottom.
If he had to say, this thing was now practically a magical item. Its usage wasn't affected by a wizard's skill. Though not a disposable item, it did have a limited number of uses. The protective effect would gradually weaken after each use and required time to recover. It was somewhat like a cooldown period for items in games. Albert found this quite interesting.
As for the cooldown time of this magical item, Albert didn't actually know.
"Heal as new."
Albert raised his wand and traced it over the wound on his finger. The shallow cut made by the small knife quickly healed.
N.E.W.T. level magic, like the use of runes, was slightly different from how wizards currently used magic. It usually required an anchor to make the magic more powerful.
Phoenix fire was an example of this.
Of course, the reason why phoenix fire could continue burning was also related to the materials used to create it. The handle of phoenix fire was made of elder wood and it required phoenix feathers, much like the answer to the riddle of the eagle door knocker. The phoenix and fire were themselves a cycle, which was why phoenix fire never went out.
"It seems devil's fire isn't easily extinguished either," Albert muttered to himself, "it's just not easy to control. But devil's fire will consume everything, whereas phoenix fire won't."
Speaking of which, if phoenix fire could be considered a skill, did that mean the protective bracelet he invented was also a skill?
After having this thought, Albert opened his skill panel and carefully looked through it. He couldn't find the skill "Protective Bracelet," but he did find a new skill called "Amulet."
The skill level of Amulet was almost at level 1.
"So, you could say that this thing is actually a type of amulet?" Albert withdrew his gaze and looked at the protective bracelet on his hand, muttering.
However, Albert didn't mind whether this skill was considered an amulet or a protective bracelet. He directly upgraded it to level two and continued to close his eyes to review the knowledge in his mind.
There must be a suitable method for making amulets.
Albert stared at the newly created protective bracelet. After some thought, he took out the unicorn statue he had prepared to give to Isabella and carved the required runes onto it.
However, when it came to bleeding, Albert hesitated for a moment. He held his small knife and glanced at his thumb, his face twitching slightly. In the end, he resolutely made a light cut.
"If I do this every time, will I become anemic?" Gazing at the completed unicorn statue, Albert muttered softly.
Level 3 was indeed a hurdle.
However, in the case of using experience points for leveling up, relying on himself to raise his panel skills to level three was not an easy task.
Albert glanced at his experience pool and skill points, then at his skills. He sighed lightly. Experience was never enough.
If he could raise his skills to level 4...
Albert quickly dispelled this idea. Experience was far from sufficient. The only skill at level four was "Wizarding Bloodline," and raising this skill to level four wouldn't provide a very noticeable effect for Albert.
Although he was a bit curious about what changes reaching level 4 might bring, his skill points were insufficient. At most, he could raise one more skill to level 4.
