In her previous life, Amber lived in a city with towering skyscrapers and bright streetlights. Although she loved going out with friends, she never really had the chance to gaze at the sky and marvel at its beauty.
If it weren't for her death that she got transmigrated into another world, she probably wouldn't see the beauty of the night – of the moon and stars.
As Amber walked to find Maya's Inn, she heard the boisterous laughter and chatter from the pub to her right and she stopped for a moment. She turned her body in the pub's direction and was about to get inside when she stopped again.
"Why don't you get inside?"
Amber was startled at the voice coming from behind her.
She didn't even notice his presence and she automatically turned around to see who it was.
Under the hood of his cloak, she could clearly see his crimson eyes and red lips. His dark and long lashes were a little curvy and she felt a slight pang of envy. Many girls would feel jealous of his natural thick and natural curvy lashes. [A vampire.] She thought.
With her right hand on her chest, she blinked her eyes while staring at the man's face. "Gorgeous," she whispered softly as she skimmed over his face.
When the man grinned playfully, she realized she said the word out loud.
She never felt so embarrassed until this moment. She wanted to find a hole and crawl down there to hide herself.
"After you," said the man once again and even gestured his hand forward to make way for Amber.
Amber raised her chin up and pretended to be unbothered but in truth, her heart was beating so fast. She had just met someone so handsome that her eyes couldn't seem to stop looking at him. She kept stealing glances from him.
To divert her attention, she looked around to find a table.
A waitress saw them and immediately walked over to entertain them. "A table for two?"
"Yes!" "No!"
Amber looked at the man once again with a frown. "We're not acquainted," she said without hiding the displeasure on her face. Even if she liked handsome men; like the "ikkemen" anime and "oppa" from her previous life, she would not allow herself to be taken advantage of. "I'd like a table for myself alone."
"Ow? So, you don't want to know me?"
"I have no intention to."
The waitress looked left and right while scratching the side of her face. "Uhh... I will check if there are two tables available," she said and hurriedly left to check the second floor. Not even a minute later, she returned with a big smile. "Follow me to the second floor."
The waitress showed them the way to their table and when Regis saw the setup, he couldn't stop himself from smiling. The waitress really knew how to serve the customers.
Indeed, the waitress showed them two separate tables, but the tables were directly facing each other. Once the two of them sat, Amber noticed the situation.
It was like having a date at a long table.
Amber picked up the menu and placed her order without taking so much time.
"What's your name?" asked the man at the next table in front of her.
"Shouldn't you tell me your name first?" Amber retorted with a raised eyebrow. Her haughtiness was obvious.
"I thought you had no intention to know me?"
She was speechless at his shamelessness. Wasn't he the one who asked for her name? Wasn't it common sense to introduce yourself before asking others for their name?
Amber felt like kicking someone.
"I'm Regis."
"Oh? Then, I'm Regis' Queen," Amber responded with a mocking smile. [How dare you try to use the King's name to flirt with a commoner? Aren't you afraid of his wrath? I don't want to get involved with you.] She told herself mentally with an obvious distaste on her face.
Regis laughed at her words and for a moment, Amber felt like something struck a chord in her heart. She never thought she would hear a melodious laughter from a man.
[No! Get a hold of yourself. He is a vampire. He is just seducing you.]
As soon as her food arrived, Amber didn't pay attention to him anymore. She savored her food happily and drank big gulps of her ale.
"This is great!" she exclaimed in surprise, thinking that the food in this world might not be on par with the food she ate in her previous life. She didn't expect them to be so delicious. "Can I have another glass of ale?" she said while raising her glass.
"Coming!"
Amused, Regis watched Amber eat in delish. Although he asked for her name a while ago, he actually knew her based on Timothy's description. After all, no other woman wore pants like men except her.
Contrary to the feast on Amber's table, Regis only ordered a rare-done steak and wine. He slowly ate his food without taking his eyes off her.
Despite his intense gaze, Amber continued to eat as if she didn't notice his gaze.
Her food was more important than a man's attention. Not to mention, a man who posed as if he was the king.
After eating her food, Amber rubbed her stomach for a few minutes while looking into the sky.
Seeing her gesture, Regis looked left and right to see if anyone else was paying attention to the woman. Rubbing one's stomach in public was considered embarrassing. Only men of the lowest class would do that.
For a woman like her, it would surely affect her reputation.
"Don't rub your stomach in public," Regis said as he stood up and walked up to her. He shielded her from everyone's sight. "It's not good for women to do that."
"Really? I didn't know that. In my village, rubbing one's stomach after a meal is a sign of one's satisfaction and it can help digestion."
"What kind of custom is that?"
[Your custom is the weird one!] She yelled internally as she stood up, ready to leave.
Now that she paid close attention to their heights, Amber realized how small she was. No wonder she had been looking up to him since they met outside the pub. Her height of 5'7 was nothing compared to him. [He's probably 6'5. If he's become my boyfriend, our height would be perfect.]
Reading her mind, Regis smiled widely once again.
She was really interesting.
[But why can't I feel that powerful aura anymore? Is it really not her?]
