章 29: 28 - Arrested
Drawing closer to their turn Victor and Michael talked to each other about the exams tomorrow.
"The Exams are made up of 3 parts, first is a written exam on all the different subjects we learnt in school." Victor explained and started to list off the dozens of different subjects, only for Michael to let out a sigh of frustration.
"Oh come on it's not that bad." Victor rolled his eyes at Michael.
"Says the one who will ace it in his sleep." Michael shot back.
"Anyway after that we have the combat test, where our combat skills and abilities will be tested." Victor continued moving forward in the line again.
"Last year it was a dungeon, so there's a high chance of being in a dungeon again this year." Michael nodded listening to Victor.
"Finally there's the Special test which is optional to take, now if we want a high score then we will need to take it." Victor finished.
"Ok so if that's the case then I'm going to have to borrow your notes." Michael nodded seriously holding his chin before speaking as a large grin made its way onto his face.
"Fine, but I expect you to get a good grade then." Victor agreed with a sigh.
"Next!" The guard called for them to come forward.
"Ok your IDs and your backpacks." The guard said as he motioned to the table he was sitting at.
Victor opened his wallet and took out his student ID before handing it over along with Michael.
Taking both IDs the guard placed them into a magic machine which had three clear magic crystals on top.
He waited a few seconds before one lit up green before the next, quickly followed by the last as they all turned green before going back to colorless.
The inspector nodded before doing the same with Michaels, which had the same results.
Next he opened up Victor's backpack and started to search for any contraband while also recording down all of the contents.
The inspector gave Victor a quick glance in confusion before continuing.
Michael starting to get bored looked around for anything to distract himself, he watched as other people trying to enter went up to other inspectors and likewise had their stuff recorded.
"Hey, Boss? I thought that you only needed to get your Id's checked and your stuff got checked by a scanner?" Michael asked seeing how long it was taking to check everyone and record it all.
"Huh? Oh you must've messed us up with another city you learn about, as only a Tier 1 or higher City has that ability." He looked up from Victor's backpack and answered.
"Oh, okay." Michael nodded before handing over his backpack seeing the inspector finish with Victor's.
"Ok now this is the list of all the items you have gotten, now as you two are students I'll explain this to you so you remember." The inspector printed out a list of all Victor's items and pointed at it.
"Now this list is for you to know the names of what you have gotten, too make it easier to split your stuff amongst your party. Now I'll give you a printed out copy this time but next time it will be sent to you on any of your devices." The inspector handed over the list to Victor before moving on to Michael's backpack.
But upon seeing yet another fully stuffed backpack he couldn't help but give them both a weird look.
"How many things did you guys kill? You know what nevermind is none of my business." The inspector shook his head and got back to work.
After finishing Victor and Michael moved through the check point and past the Guards standing guard along the tunnel into the City.
"Can you invite Granny Lola to meet us in the business district so we can relax before the exams." Victor spoke as he got out his phone to check if he had any messages.
"Yeah I got it." Michael said as he went to call Granny Lola.
After the great calamity and the chaos that it caused over 800 years ago, a large amount of knowledge and technology was lost or a large amount of technology didn't work anymore with the rapidly changing world.
Amongst them was the world wide web, satellites, power grids, power stations and a whole lot more.
Phones and almost every form of communication which wasn't in person was either destroyed or no longer worked.
It wasn't till about 200 years ago that a form of internet was created, and even then it only works inside of Cities and for low Tier or small Cities you need to go to certain buildings or shops like internet cafes to use it.
Phones on the other hand can only be used inside of City walls, as the mana in the air outside of the City affects the connection.
Most phone calls only work with other phones inside of the same City, so when adventurers and people come back into the City they always check their messages.
In fact almost all technology that is used today is either magic based or a combination of magic and technology, with only a small amount fully technological.
So technology has actually gone backwards by a large margin and is only now slowly moving forwards.
"Yeah Granny Lola is going to meet us there." Michael hung up his phone before informing Victor that Granny Lola will join them for dinner again.
Victor and Michael decided to walk over instead of taking the bus. But what they didn't notice was that they were being watched...
Along the way they stopped at a few of the different shops along the way to sell all the monster drops they had collected, only keeping the rare drops, equipment and rewards they got from the trial and dungeon runs.
Because they only had the stuff they were selling in their backpacks, they quickly became empty while instead their wallets and accounts became full.
Finally finishing selling everything they got closer to their destination.
"Huh, we still got here first." Michael said looking around for Granny Lola after they got to the meeting point first.
Victor agreed while also looking for Granny Lola, not liking being in such a large crowd.
"Oh there she is." Michael spotted her and started to wave in her direction.
However before they could walk forwards a large amount of people in armour surrounded them.
"Put your hands up!" A knight raised his longsword and pointed it at Victor and Michael.
"Huh?" Was the only reaction Michael had as his face was full of confusion.
"You are being detained and will be questioned as part of an ongoing investigation." The Knight continued as Victor and Michael were put into cuffs.
"Do not resist or you will be charged." Their backpacks and weapons were taken as they were placed into a Van and taken away.
This unexpected scene shocked everyone present especially when they recognised that this group came from the Guild Association, which confused them especially when the two who got arrested were just students.
Granny Lola who was leaning on her walking stick stopped then her back straightened.
"They have no reason, let alone the authority to detain students.... Hmm it seems someone is making moves behind the scenes." All of the sudden she disappeared.
"So why have you detained us?" Victor asked sitting in the back of the Van surrounded by the men in armour.
But he didn't get any response or even acknowledgement of their existence.
"Oookay, you know we have rights." Michael said seeing no reaction from them.
"Be quiet or I'll make you quiet." One of them said as he cracked his knuckles.
They all sit in silence till they arrived at the Guild Association, where they both were taken to separate interrogation rooms.
Victor was cuffed to the table and left alone with all of his items left sitting on a nearby table.
Left alone with nothing to do he just sat and waited for almost an hour before finally the door opened and a Man entered.
He was short with thin brown hair, he was carrying a clipboard which held Victor's personal information.
Reading over it he came over and sat across from Victor, where he raised an eyebrow before looking up at Victor.
"Victor Wise, age 16, class Necromancer... Now I have a few questions for you but first I want to know where you got these." He placed his hand on the table before lifting it up to reveal two items a ring and a necklace.
Upon seeing them Victor's eyes narrowed before looking at the man opposite of him.
