Mia sighed and delved into her tale. She recounted how she had caught Jack with a woman, but hadn't known that woman was her best friend. Then she narrated how she had prepared for their second anniversary, only for Jack to leave the house during their celebration. She explained how she had followed him based on a conversation she had overheard, leading to an accident, and that was how she had met Declan.

"Wow. You've been through a lot," Declan's mother said. The anger she felt turned into pity, and she almost reached out to hold Mia's hand, but Declan was holding it tighter. "So, why is it taking you so long to get a divorce from such a man?"

Declan almost laughed. His mother, who had advocated against divorce, was now supporting it. His smile didn't escape his mother's sharp gaze. She turned to Declan. "Is there anything funny, young man?"

He shook his head. "I'm sorry, Mum. I didn't mean to smile. I'm just happy you're starting to understand us."
